TAKE AN ANGEL BY THE WINGs | BEG HER NOW FOR ANYTHING; Ask her for the strength to stay | TAGGED
| A stern voice was never too intimidating for Avery. He was used to getting into trouble and even more used to getting away with it, primarily due to those big brown eyes and innocent intentions. Usually innocent. When Bellamy reached out to grab his arm, he smiled real big with sheepish eyes and held up the glasses that he’d stacked together. “I’m bringing back stuff for Arkadia!” he replied without hesitation. Everybody else was technically doing the same thing; food, clothes, medicine and even art. So in his eyes, though he certainly wasn’t helping, that’s what he’d claim. Though, it occurred to him that it may not have been the best strategy considering how useless the fancy glasses were. He lowered them and pressed his lips firmly together in thought—wondering if Bellamy would help him find something more interesting to take home, since the glasses were slowly starting to lose his constantly shifting interest.
He didn’t know that children had died in Mount Weather. He knew that people were killed, but what happened here was stuff that was hidden from him, and though he heard whispers of injured Arkadians and dangers lurking in the tunnels he didn’t fully undertsnad the weight of the situation. He was here, purely out of curiosity and interest. He wanted to see what the big deal was. The Ark had been so dull and Arkadia wasn’t too much better. The taste of the air and the feeling of unlimited water was nice, but slowly it would lose its luster. Mount Weather was so interesting to him. He even wished they could move into it.
“We don’t have anything fun in Arkadia,” he explained after a moment of thought before setting down the glasses on a nearby crate. “I’m looking for things to bring back! To show people!” Avoiding Bellamy and detection had shifted into a recruitment mission. If Bellamy was willing to help him find something; toys, games, anything of the sort, the mission to sneak in wouldn’t be a waste. He really liked Bellamy—more than the other adults. His mom was friends with him, which made him much more approachable, while also making him feel like he could PROBABLY get away with a little more. “Do you want to help?” he asked with his grin back in place. He was either going to get into trouble, or get help. He was ready for either, but he did kind of hope Bell was willing to help him dig around for something other than powdered foods and pictures.

TAKE AN ANGEL BY THE WINGs | BEG HER NOW FOR ANYTHING; Ask her for the strength to stay | TAGGED
| Avery had a problem obeying the rules sometimes. He would never do anything dangerous, like leave Arkadia alone—but he didn’t like staying within the walls either. He would learn about earth with the other kids and the adults would try to give them a schedule to follow, but it was difficult to keep track of everybody when there was so much to be done. Supply runs to Mount Weather were one of those things. During the ceasefire, Arkadia was stocking up on what they could use; guns, food, supplies and paintings. No kids were allowed to go to the mountain though, and Avery thought that was silly. There were so many guards that went. It had to be safe. So, Avery started a mission to get to Mount Weather.
When nobody was looking, he climbed into the back of one of the rovers they were packing up for the trip and hid in a cargo box. It was a rough ride across the woods and the box didn’t have a seatbelt to keep him strapped in for the bounces and potholes. Still, the excitement of seeing the mountain for himself was enough to let him overlook the minor bumps and bruises he received while hiding out in the wooden crate. He could hear the guards that sat in the back of the rover, so for the entire ride he was as quiet as a mouse; making sure not to draw any unwanted attention. When he felt the terrain change and heard the door open, he made sure to wait until all the guards had loaded out before pushing the crate door open. He was quick to slip out the back of the open rover, but the surroundings were confusing. Mostly storage, they had stopped in what seemed to be a garage filled with boxes and canned foods ready to ship out. Everybody was busy, just like in Arkadia. Nobody noticed him looking around either.
He wandered around the garage for a while, looking for more interesting places to check out. He followed a small group down one of the many halls and was amazed by the art and the colors of the walls. Everything was decorated. There were even fake flowers on tables and glasses in the dining area. It was all strange. He picked up a couple glasses and stacked them together, wanting to bring them home. He was used to metal and plastic cups, but the glasses had pretty bottoms that reflected and almost sparkled. Plus, they were the only thing he could grab without giving himself away. Quickly, he started making his way back to the garage where the rovers were waiting, but on the way, he ran into Bellamy—or rather, avoided eye contact and tried to make his way past him without being caught. Bellamy was one of the teachers teaching the kids in Arkadia and one of the few adults who knew Avery.

TAKE AN ANGEL BY THE WINGs | BEG HER NOW FOR ANYTHING; Ask her for the strength to stay | TAGGED @nuala
| Avery smiled as she took the necklace from his hands and took a closer look. He'd chosen each stone carefully, making sure that the colors glittered with quartz. Those who were making their own clothing and jewelry had helped him choose them and were very generous. He watched Nuala look at the gems and grinned with excitement-- his cheeks dimpling lightly as he smiled. She really liked it. She wasn't just acting like it and that meant a lot to Avery. He could always tell if somebody was pretending. "I'm happy you like it," he said as he lightly reached out to turn one of the larger gems to show her the reflective quartz. "I got some help from some fishermen. They helped me put it together." Now his smile was a little more bashful-- wishing he could take all the credit, but knowing he couldn't do that honestly.
"We didn't have stones on the ark; in the sky I mean," he carefully picked up the necklace from her hands and moved behind her so he could put it on her. Hesitantly, he swept her hair to one side and rested the necklace around her neck before hooking the clasp closed like he was shown. "We didn't have water like this either though... This place has really pretty things," He knew they didn't know a lot about them. They called them Sky People, or Skaikru. "If we did, they would probably use the rocks for salt. They wouldn't make necklaces with them... Or anything like that at all,"
He fixed her hair and moved it so it would fall down her back once again. With his smile in place he moved back to his place in front of her and tilted his head with burning curiosity. "They said you weren't born here... Were you a tree person?" That sounded funny to him but he thought that's what they called themselves. after all, if they were Sky People, that would make them Tree People-- which sounded like some kind of strange story. |

TAKE AN ANGEL BY THE WINGs | BEG HER NOW FOR ANYTHING; Ask her for the strength to stay | TAGGED @nuala
| Avery’s mum and a few others from The Ark had left Camp Jaha. They were given a chance to escape. The children were invited to the ocean, where they were taken in by grounders with masks and strange weapons that didn’t look at all like the swords and bows that the grounders at Camp Jaha used. It had been scary, honestly, but Avery was just happy that this place didn’t have the same hostile energy that Camp Jaha did. Ever since they landed, it seemed like everything was wrong... the Mountain had their people, grounders wanted to kill them, then there was a ceasefire of sorts, but really it was a cold war. He had friends, some who came and some who didn’t... The boat people couldn’t take everybody. It would have been impossible.
Ever since they had come here, Avery’s mother had been so protective. When he did manage to slip away, he found himself drawn to a young girl named Nuala. She was pretty with green and blue in her hair, with strange clothes and a starfish necklace. Avery may have been a little smitten... He had slipped away from his mother and made her a necklace with green and blue stones that shined like the water beneath them. The other grounders thought that his gift was adorable and were more than willing to help him. He was used to using his childish charms for this kind of thing, but Nuala was different. She seemed much older than Avery was, with the way she acted. It made him want to impress her.
“Nuala!” Avery called as he jogged across the deck of the oil rig. He saw her near the edge and knew that he wouldn’t get another chance if his mom found out where he’d gone. He wasn’t exactly hiding, but he didn’t want to stay inside all day. He wanted to explore. Avery had barely spoken to Nuala. It made him nervous now. “I made this for you!” He said with a grin as he held up the necklace. “It’s the same color as your hair. I thought you’d like it.”

| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ | .:Name:. Avery James Montgomery .:Nick Name:. Avey, Avey Davey .:Affiliation:. Arkadia, The Ark .:Age:. Ten | ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ | .:Physical Appearance:. Avery is a small boy with dark curly brown hair that falls messily around his face. His mother always wants to cut it, but Avery puts it off as long as possible which normally ends with him having to push it out of his face whenever he wants to see clearly. His eyes are large, round and so dark brown they are barely a shade off black with large irises that can only be described as orbs. He has chubby cheeks that dimple when he smiles with a round face that makes him look even younger than he is-- which is ten and a half by the way. He is always in the same brown jacket that was retrieved from Mount Weather. It's a little too big for him, but it reminds him of a coat that his dad used to wear. Despite his wild interests and knack for getting into trouble, his mother keeps him clean and his clothes neat. A defining feature of his has to be his ears. They are a little too big for his tiny head and stick out enough that kids in school used to call him Dumbo... but jokes on them, cause Dumbo can fly. .:Height:. 4'3" .:Portrayed by:. Raphael Alejandro | ~ • ~ | Personality | ~ • ~ | .:Personality:. He is a handful of energy and always looking for the next thing to do. Keeping Avery still is a task that can rarely be handled by even his mother. He does misbehave just as much as any other child his age, but he's never the type of child to act maliciously. On The Ark, he would pick fights with bullies to protect friends and younger kids, much to his mothers dismay. His small stature can't contain his massive personality or chain of interests. Learning has always been something that he enjoys and he learns from watching others. That'll never change. Once, before the death of his father, he would be incredibly reliant on him for guidance and growth, but he's since learned from his mother instead and to some extent believes that because he's the man of the family, he needs to take care of her. He loves odd jobs and helping others on the ground and loves to learn new things. Sometimes his curiosity can get him into trouble though, as he rarely thinks of the consequences of his actions. Because of this, citizens of Arkadia will often indulge his manic need to stay busy, giving him many unofficial titles and jobs across the camp. Some day, he wants to be a guard, like his best friend Bellamy. It's not because he wants to have respect or authority, but instead because he wants to take care of everybody the way that Bellamy does and the way his mother takes care of him. .:Special Skills:. Avery is very good at finding thick sticks for roasting food on. He's also very good with animals and enjoys spending time with the horses and helping with the daily animal care. He is stealthy-- after all he needs to be in order to get into the trouble he gets into. He's got a skill for eavesdropping on guards and learning things he may not be allowed to know. Lastly, Avery's small frame is helpful sometimes with mechanics who need tiny hands to get under heavy equipment, especially when they lose things with their big bulky gloves. | ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ | .:Birthplace:. The Ark .:Family:. Avery's mother is a kind and dedicated woman who survived the fall to the ground. She's the only remaining biological family that Avery has. His father passed away shortly before the decent. Since coming to the ground, Bellamy Blake has become a sort of adoptive brother for Avery. .:Occupation:. Official Fire Stick Gatherer, Kitchen Helper, Honorary Guard, Stable Boy .:History:. Avery had a very stable upbringing. Like all Arkers, some days he would go without rations at times, but his parents did everything they could to care for him. He was better off than so many kids on the ark and he knew it somewhere deep down, despite being a little too young to really understand it. His father was a guard on the ship who spent every day protecting the people of the ark, and though Avery knew not many people liked guards, he also knew they were very important in keeping the peace. Sometimes, the other guards would get angry with his dad, as he would often find corruption in the system itself. It didn't earn him, or his family any favors, but he believed the job was an honest one and had to be carried out as such. Often, his job would take up all of his time, leaving very little for Avery and his mother. His mom made sure that was never much of a problem though, and filled his time with books and old movies from the ground whenever she was able to get her hands on them. His favorites were movies about animals, like the lion king and dumbo-- or a bugs life. He always loved the idea of heroic characters. Shortly before the trip to the ground, Avery's father fell ill. It was bad enough that he was gone within the day. His mother told him that it was the flu, paired with trouble breathing. He'd been working too hard, and just... passed away. It was very difficult for him to understand. It was too sudden, but he became determined to take care of his mother. He knew that she had to miss him just as much as he did. Before they truly had a chance to mourn though, they were heading to the ground. It wasn't anything like he'd imagined. Instead of ships, they went down in the stations-- tied in tight. His mom held him so tightly he thought that she would pop off his head. It was such a scary landing, he still sometimes has nightmares about it. Though, since coming to the ground, Avery has injected himself into the community in Arkadia. He's social, prides himself on knowing everybody and has gotten into all kinds of mild trouble. Grounders continue to be a source of fear, rather than intrigue. Horses, cars and plant life are all new and exciting and things that he has come to enjoy. With so much new space, his mother has had trouble keeping tabs on him, but his friendship with Bellamy Blake has helped keep him out of some trouble. | ~ • ~ | Member Info | ~ • ~ | .:Name or Online Alias:.
