Jaha had to be ruthless, it was not a choice to be made. In fact, it was his mission.
There was a major error in the system, the twelve stations were not capable anymore of providing everyone with the needed levels of Oxygen. The Engineers and technicians, both, agreed that they needed about six months to fix the problem. However, time was not a resource of which they had an abundance of. If they wanted to survive these six months, they had to sacrifice a few. And so, the idea of the 100 came about. One hundred delinquents and troublemakers were feeding on the Oxygen reserves, without doing anything to contribute to the society. Perhaps, they had the opportunity to redeem themselves, even so if it meant their death. However, as a supreme chancellor, it didn't mean he had the power to dictate such matters, alone. In fact, he had to convene with other chancellors, members of the board, to discuss such urgent matters.
That day, Jaha had decided to meet up with Callie; he wanted to convince her, giving him her vote to go on with the plan. There he waited, in the meeting room. There he sat, waiting for Chancellor Callie to grace him with her presence.

Madness! Jaha didn't approve of being locked up there, like a prisoner. The former chancellor wasn't even convinced that he committed an act of treason. After all, he was the chancellor, last time Jaha had checked. And that was, when he separated all the twelve stations from the halo, in attempt to redeem himself as a man and save what remained of humanity. Although, Thelonious didn't know whether his redemption was accepted or not, somehow he managed to escape death, miraculously. But he did what he had to do, saving his people on the account of his own soul. Jaha believed, he didn't die for a reason. His story didn't up there, in the space. He was there, down, above the ground. And certainly, he believed, his story was not about to end because of a Grounder's attack. Why? Why didn't Abby understand him? Why didn't she want to send Finn to meet his own fate? Wasn't he responsible of the meaningless death of 19 grounders? Jaha understood, sacrificing a few was imperative to save the many. Abby was dooming them! She didn't see the commander, she didn't see the death in her eyes. He told her many times, it was time to leave, seeking the city of light. Yet, she remained stubborn and obstinate. Indeed, she succeeded in making a deal with the commander, by healing Lincoln from his affliction. But the possibility remained, she might have failed in her quest and doomed them all. Everything was hanging in the balance, by the slim breadth of a hair. "Sir," The masculine voice of Bellamy Blake awoke him from his reverie. Jaha cast aside his thoughts, raised his head to meet the gaze of the man who had shot him, the same man whom Jaha had condemned his mother to float into never ending space. "Bellamy," Jaha stood up, moved to shorten the distance between them, according to what his cell had provided him with. "Abby was very strict, she wanted my stay here to be as solitary as possible," He looked into Bellamy's eyes. "What brings you here, Bellamy?" The former chancellor asked, curious. Bellamy Blake

As the previous and the last Chancellor of the Ark, Jaha condemned the 100 to make their landing into the earth. He sent them into a mission, a mission where they need to know whether Earth survivable or not. Being impartial, he sent his own son. Jaha didn't play favors, in fact, he displayed ruthless precision in his decisions. Dispatching the 100 hundred provided the 12 stations with more air. Within the same day, where they had to drop the 100 into the ground, Jaha was shot by Bellamy Blake. However, the chancellor managed to survive, thanks to Abigail Griffin. Another decision, he had to make, was the culling of 320 citizens of the Ark. He wanted to sacrifice himself, as well, to save the many, by joining sector 17. However, Marcus Kane deterred him from making this move, telling Jaha that the 12 stations needed the good leader in him. After hurdling through many crucibles, Jaha managed to send his people to earth after confirming the ground's survival-ability. Still, he was left behind, in order to separate the 12 stations manually.
Harboring within him a strong spirit, Jaha was capable of using an inactive nuclear missile to leave space and land on earth. After many obstacles, he managed to return to his people, where the alpha station had fallen. The place, which the survivors called as camp Jaha. The old man believed, he believed that he survived all of this for a reason. And so, he made it his own crusade to find and locate the city of light, hoping to bring salvation to his people. He managed to leave the camp with a selected few, including John Murphy, in a deadly journey. They passed through the desert, losing people in the process. Through the sea, only Jaha and Murphy survived. There, he found his destiny. There, he found the city of light.
Jaha was given a new goal, a new agenda; he was bound to preach for the glory of the city of light.
