whatever THE HELL WE WANT The days dragged on. Each one felt seemingly endless and were blurring into each other. Bellamy felt like he had no purpose. His sister was in the Sky Box, his mother had been floated and . . . he just, merely existed. He felt like he was walking underwater, everything around him a daze. He was working as a janitor now, and he didn't even care about the low ranking job. He didn't deserve to be here. He had been the one to ruin everything. He had destroyed his family . . . and his mother and Octavia were the ones paying the price. It didn't stop him from trying to appeal to the authorities; to give his sister a chance to live. She had no choice. He was guilty. Why the hell should she be punished for merely existing?! It wasn't fair. And he wouldn't accept it. If they floated her . . . well, they might as well float him too.
He had finished hiss hift not too long ago. The apartment was no longer a home. He didn't even sleep on the bed. He slept where he always did, on the floor, close to the spot Octavia was kept under while hiding. Sometimes, he could pretend she was still there. And then he would wake up from this wishful dream only to be thrust into the reality of this nighmare. Life was meaningless without her. A knock on the door made him moved toward it. He wasn't exactly welcoming of visitors. He didn't want to see anyone.
And when he opened the door . . . he sure as hell didn't want to see the man who was standing on the other end. Unless he was here to tell him that he could switch places with Octavia, he didn't care about what Kane had to say. Bellamy just stepped aside, figuring whtever the guy wanted, it was not a conversation to be had in the hallway. Though he also didn't expect him to stay long. "What is it?" He questioned, wanting to get straight to the point. He didn't care about pleasantries. Kane, Jaha, Shumway . . . these figures of authority were the reason his mother was floated and his sister arrested. Well, partly. Bellamy knew that the real reason, was himself.

Marcus felt like he was walking underwater. It was as if time held little meaning, and everything happened sometimes out of order. He had avoided Bellamy Blake for a few days now, but he could no longer do it. He had to talk to him, for avoiding this would not make it any easier--and he didn't really want to avoid it. So he went to the room--the room where his children had lived close enough for him to come see had he known. His children--bloody fucking hell he had children. Plural. As in more than one. Bellamy opened the door, and stepped aside after Marcus had finally gotten the courage to knock. "What is it?" Marcus looked around for a moment, his hand folded behind his back, before turning to look at Bellamy. "Shut the door." His voice held unquestioned authority--but also a heaviness that had never been in it before. After the door was shut, and Bellamy was looking at him, Marcus looked over his face, and hair, and even body type. How had he not seen it before? How had he never noticed the almost mirror imagine before him? He wanted to ask how he had been, but neither of them were the type to share things. Bellamy had kept a secret for 16 years, and Marcus had been alone for just as long. There was Callie, but he had never fully committed to her. "Your mother told me something before she died. I came here because of what she told me." Marcus began. "It wasn't easy to hear, and it's not easy to say." He was a father. "I didn't know about you before this. . . . I didn't know you were my son." He wasn't sure if Bellamy knew, or wanted to know--but being the sister was also his daughter, he needed to be able to help Bellamy save her. And he had a plan.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Marcus told him to shut the door and Bellamy did as he was told. There was something different in Kane . . . and it gave Bellamy that burst of hope. Hope. A dangerous thing to possess but it was the only thing that kept him alive. Kept him moving. Hope . .. that his sister could be saved. That she would not suffer the Sky Box for two years and then be floated. Could this be what it was about? Could Kane have found a way? The man stared at him, and Bellamy wondered if he should ask or just wait. Though the decision was made easy when Kane began to say something about his mother. How dare he talk about her. He had floated her and now he came to speak her name?! Bellamy turned toward the door, preparing to open it and send him out . . . which, he knew was an overly bold and perhaps reckless thing to do, considering Kane's position on the Ark.
But his next words caused him to freeze. His hand had just touched the door, his back toward Marcus . . . and the words hit him hard. Son. His son. Bellamy slowly turned to look at Kane. He had never had a father. Not the father figure that a family should have. When he was younger, he often wondered how different life would have been had a father or paternal figure been in his life . . . but then he stopped wondering. Reality consumed him and he knew he would never have one, nor did he feel any lacking affection in the absence of one. He had a mother and sister to love and be loved by. That had been all he needed. Which was why enduring that missing love, made him feel cold and empty inside. He just stared at Kane, the words still processing in his mind. He was his father. His mother had never said anything. Why? Where the hell had Kane been this whole time? Did he really have no idea?!
"You're not my father." He didn't have a father. He was angry. Hurt. This was kept from him and all he could think about is how much better protected his family could have been. Not for Bellamy's sake, but for his mother. For Octavia. Wait . . . was Marcus Octavia's father too?! "Because if you really were," he continued, his voice strong, holding back the emotional reaction from this news just as stoically as Marcus had delivered it. "You wouldn't have let this happen." He would surely have done more to protect his family. He could have done more. Did he really not know?! Bellamy just . . . he couldn't deal with this right now. Hell, he wasn't dealing with it now. He was in a very deep form of denial that this was even possible.

"You're not my father." So he did not know. It was just as well, they could deal with this together. And Marcus wasn't sure how he could--would--or wanted to deal with this right now. "Because if you really were, you wouldn't have let this happen." "I do not make the rules, nor do I have the authority to break them whenever it pleases me." Marcus didn't quite snap, but his voice was slightly louder, the emotional impact of standing before his son leaving him with less control then he had had before.
"Aurora told me that you were my son, when they were taking her to meet you at the chambers. I did not know before then that you were mine. Had I known, then things would be different." Mainly because there would have been no second child! He would have made sure of that! He also would have made sure that this was not the life they'd known! While he knew there was poverty on the Ark, he would not have allowed his SON---CHILDREN to live in it. "I wish I had known."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy's expression did not soften, nor did his understanding. He was angry. Angry that Marcus spoke his mother's name. Angry that knowing who their father was . . . could have and would have changed things. Father. The connection still not fully register. He was just a man. A man who had played a role in conceiving Bellamy. But that was all. Nothing more than that. He spoke of rules, he spoke of not knowing . . . and how he wished he had. "What would you have done?" Bellamy questioned, his inquiry addressed in a strong tone rather than one that held a light curiosity.
Every knew that Marcus Kane was a man who abided by the laws; who followed and enforced them diligently. What would he have done with the knowledge of a second child. Wait . . . that was assuming that Octavia was also his. "How could you not know?" He accused, forcing himself to keep a distance from him otherwise . . . well, Bellamy did not trust himself. Whatever relation Marcus had to him, Bellamy was still all too aware of the difference in rank.
"You didn't think of it for a second? You didn't bother to ask her about it?" His mother. Aurora. How could he have not known?! What about the math? Did he feel any paternal instinct toward him? Kane and Aurora clearly shared something . . . how could he have not known? "What about Octavia?" He finally brought forth her name, needing to know if she was Kane's as well. If Kane was her father too. His answer would either intensify Bellamy's anger, or ever so slightly calm it.

Bellamy was fast firing questions but it was only the later ones that Marcus answered, because he wasn't ready to answer everything yet. "You didn't think of it for a second? You didn't bother to ask her about it?" He had wondered at first, but he never thought she would lie on the permit. "Clearly you are upset, and rightly so. I have only known you are my son for a few days and I am still upset; but I am no going to explain my personal relationship I had with your mother." "What about Octavia?" Answering that would be explaining things, however he owed him an answer, "It is a very . . . . very strong possibility that she is my daughter as well. Which is why I have come here."
Because he wasn't going to watch his daughter die. "Because I want to be able to help her." He needed to try. While he wasn't ready to tell the Ark that he was a father, but nor was he willing it ignore this until it went away. Especially knowing how everything was playing out. If they failed to fix the Ark the kids in the Skybox would be sent to the ground. Not any time soon, but with the Ark not having much time the idea of culling the population that way had been suggested. Because it would open up a chance to move down there for everyone if the Earth could hold life.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy continued to be angry. Marcus pointed out his right and whether it was given to him or not, he would continue to feel this way. It was when he said that he was not going to explain his personal relationship with his mother that his jaw slightly clenched. "You had no personal relationship with her." It wasn't him being presumptuious. It was him recalling the last 23 years of his life where his father didn't have a damn thing to do with them. "Whatever you may have had before, apparently wasn't worth sticking around for." Because things would have been different. Marcus would have been a father figure.
He could have taken care of his mother. All the struggles they went through. It wasn't that Bellamy didn't see his mother as strong and independant, Bellamy just wanted the best for her . . . and Octavia. Whom what, Marcus didn't even know if she was his? "So you not only didn't know about one kid but potentially two?" There was some judgment in his voice. He didn't care about Marcus being a father to him. He cared about how it had affected Aurora . . . and Octavia. But then he spoke of wanting to help her and that caused Bellamy to pause.
He didn't trust Marcus. Hell, he didn't trust anyone but his mother and Octavia -- one of which was dead, and the other imprisoned. "By doing what?" He was both curious, but also was not going to get his hopes up. "Isn't it a little too late for you to try and be a hero?" Those words held a hint of bitterness, sarcastically questioned. They could have used his help years ago. Now, his mother was dead and Octavia would be floated in two years. Just what the hellw as Marcus Kane proposing here.

"You had no personal relationship with her." Bellamy snapped back, and Marcus could tell this wasn't going to get better, it was only going to get worse! "Whatever you may have had before, apparently wasn't worth sticking around for." THAT was unfair, and if this was anyone else, he would have hit them for it. "So you not only didn't know about one kid but potentially two?" He defiantly didn't know he had two children--he wasn't even sure what to do with one adult son--much less a teenage daughter! "By doing what?" He demanded, "Isn't it a little too late for you to try and be a hero?"
And he was done with being talked down too by a kid less then half his age. "I will remind you that you are talking to the vice chanciler of the Ark, and you will mind your tone!" Marcus snapped back at him, raising his hand to point at the younger boy. "I came here to find out more about my children--ones that your mother took pains to make sure I didn't know that I had--not to be your punching bag." Marcus lowered his hand, "I have already said that did not know that I had a son--how the hell would I have guessed I had two? I do not plan to sit back and watch one of them die. I came here to talk. If you rather yell at me, I can leave."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy became silent when Marcus reminded him of who he was. The Vice Chancellor of the Ark. Yeah. The one who helped enforce laws that floated his mother, arrested his sister and yet was now here to what . . . offer help? "I thought you came her as a father, not a Vice Chancellor," he questioned rhetorically. Bellamy's anger was more placed at the man's blood relation to him, rather than his title in the Ark. But all the same, he knew she could get floated for it.
Whether he was his son or not. Marcus was only his father by blood. No other way for he had been absent for Bellamy's entire life. But it was when he said that he was here to help Octavia that Bellamy knew he had to bite back his own bitterness. If there was even the remotest chance that Marcus could help his sister . . . he had to take it. There was no other option. Bellamy remained silent, holding everything back, keeping his words to himself. They needed to focus on Octavia. This wasn't about Bellamy, and he knew that. This was about her . . . for she was the one in danger here. "How do you propose to help her?" Bellamy asked, genuinely curious to find out more about what he had in mind. Besides, it was easier to focus on that rather than lash out at Kane again. That, would get them no where.

"I thought you came her as a father, not a Vice Chancellor," That little sassy bastard. Marcus looked at Bellamy in a silent, disapproving, and unblinking glare. He maintained it until Bellamy spoke again, and his words were more calm, and suggested that he might be getting somewhere. He wasn't here to make things worse! He was trying to find his footing. He was trying to figure out what this meant for himself! He didn't need a someone trying to make him feel worse! "How do you propose to help her?"
Marcus blinked, and looked around the room. "Right now no one knows of this but us two. We are going to keep it this way. My word as an unbiased council man will carry more weight." If it became known she was his daughter, then he wouldn't be apart of the decision. He'd loose his job. Might even be floated. "I need to know what I can of her. I need you to stop thinking of like her brother. I need to know as much of what i can. What she is good at, what rules she knows. What she needs to know to be a citizen. I need a reason to enough others to allow her to join the Ark."
