whatever THE HELL WE WANT Things were slowly calming down. But the healing was far from over. There were wounds that would never heal. Trauma that would never pass. Bellamy himself was bathing in blood. It had only been a couple days since he massacre and most people who had been drilled were cleared from medical. That was one less thing to worry about. Bellamy had to set his feelings aside for the betterment of the camp. So that he could lead the delinquents. Without Clarke, he didn't know where he stood. What position that left him in. All he knew was that he couldn't abandon his people. He wouldn't.
It was night and food had just been distrubted. Bellamy's appetite was not substantial, just like sleep was not too easy to find either. It was why he hated nights. But at least for right now, people surrounded them. He saw Kane sitting at one of the tables and decided to approach him. With Abby having been injured by the drilling, Kane had maintained a leadership role. He sat across from him at the small table he was seated at. "We're going need to organize a hunting party tomorrow," he explained to him. They had gone hunting the day after they returned from Mount Weather, and their meat supply was already running out. Since Bellamy wasn't the ultimate authority, he figured he had better let Kane know to make the arrangements. Though the older Blake sibling was not shy of making them himself. "Not much is left of our meat supply." They would be good for breakfast, but not for later meals.

He's made nothing but mistakes when it came to the people he had sworn to protect. An oth that he was wondering if he could even keep. Once he had taken it--it had been everything. He was doing to do it, as it was his right and he believed no one else could do it. Now he wasn't so sure. He still believed he could do this better then most, but his mistakes were costly, and it was getting harder to drink them away at night. Not that he tried very hard to drink them away. Marcus Kane, son of Vera Kane, was not going to fall into despair and drink. At least not tonight. Someone moved near him, and Marcus looked up to see Bellamy Blake. The man who could have been his son had things been different. Though sometimes Marcus wondered, he had never sought out the proof, not would ever bring it up for questioning. There would be no good in finding out now, when the children where grown and more stable then himself. "We're going need to organize a hunting party tomorrow," Marcus felt his lips pull into an almost smile, as he looked back down at his cup. Direct. He liked it. "Not much is left of our meat supply." And smart. Looking back up, Marcus sat his cup down on the table and leaned back in his chair. "I'd like you to lead it." He told Bellamy, "If you are feeling up for it." When they had landed, there had been no trust for the boy who shot his best friend--now he had nothing but trust for him. "You could take your pick of men, and bring back what you can." He could see the weight that seemed to be on Bellamy, and he wondered if he should say more.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy wasn't entirely surprised by Marcus saying that he'd like him to lead it. But there was still that unexpected granted authority that he gave to Bellamy. The male Blake had never had that conversation with the former acting Chancellor. He had just stepped into the role that was required of him; where he was useful. He had been frustrated with the adult Arkers when they first came to the ground . . . but now, he had a newfound respect for Kane. Marcus had told him he had done good when he and Clarke made a decision that ended the lives of generations. And it had been those words that left Bellamy with a fragment of hope, that the others would understand.
But that hope had been short lived, mostly after Clarke's departure. The people treated him no worse, but seeing them, seeing the reminder . . . the exchange of lives . . . it was difficult. Marcus was no exception to this, but Bellamy kept himself guarded. He had to be so; for the sake of the others; for the betterment of the camp. "I'll take whoever's able," he told him. Whoever hadn't been drilled or harmed during that gruesome torture. "We'll head out first thing in the morning. Be back before dark." Bellamy wasn't going to undermine the authority of others right now. He lacked the strength. He would just inform Kane of what he intended to do. "How's Chancellor Griffin?" Bellamy questioned, knowing that she, Raven and Harper had had the worst of it. And Abby's situation was not much better after Clarke left.

Marcus nodded his head once in approval at Bellamy's plan and knew he would have to make sure it was known that Blake had permission to access weapons. "You can take anyone willing to learn hunting, but only the guardsmen and yourself can carry a loaded weapon. The last thing we need right now is someone getting jumpy and misfiring into one of our own." Which was always an concern when fear ran rapid. Normally Marcus would not explain his choice, but he was trying to make sure that the young man knew that Marcus saw him as a leader--and he would explain himself to leaders. There had been talks between himself and Abby about even putting him on the council--one that Kane was pushing for with fervor, because he felt that Bellamy would help them with whatever came their way.
"How's Chancellor Griffin?" Speaking of Abby. Marcus looked back at the Ark, as if he could see her now, before looking at Blake. "Her wounds will heal without infection, and I doubt they will keep her in bed long." Which was about all he could say for certain. "I want to thank you," Marcus began, "For staying. I know it could not have been easy, but you know the ground better then I do. I could not admit that before, I only saw the temperamental boy who shot the man I was sworn to protect. I can see who everything is not so black and white here. Know that if you come to me again, I will not dismiss it as I did before."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy gave a short but detectable nod as Kane spoke of how he could take anyone willing to learn and that only he and the guardsman could carry a weapon. Kane was right; it was too much of a risk to allow anyone else to. Especially since most everyone was suffering from post traumatic stress. Anyone who carried a weapon and was not trained with it, would pose as a risk. One that they could not afford.
"Understood," he said, to confirm his agreement and acceptance. It was after highly logical so Bellamy had no reason to oppose it. He had come to respect Marcus as a leader, not because he had to . . . but because the man deserved it. Even if he wasn't Chancellor, Bellamy felt he was more the man to report to than Abby. Or at least the man he would report to. He then listened to Marcus explain Abby's state, in that she wouldn't be kept in bed long.
Physical wounds would heal. Emotional and psychological ones . . . not so much. And Bellamy imagined Clarke's departure was not something Abby would be so quick to recover from. "Then that's good news," he stated. She would heal, and thus, she could help the others through that process as well. They needed her skills now more than ever. Marcus next words caused Bellamy to pause, his jaw slightly clenching as he looked down at the table in front of him. He was thanking him, for staying. He recognized the difficulty . . . hell, he seemed to amend his opinion of Bellamy entirely. He knew that it was not easy words for Marcus to say, nor were they ones that Bellamy took lightly. Kane would not have said them if he didn't mean them. And that, at least meant something to Bellamy Blake.
"I'm here for my people," he began to say. But then he paused, his gaze slowly raising to meet Kane's. "Our people," he rectified. Because just as there was no black and white, the lines of Arkers had now crossed over. It was no longer Clarke and Bellamy leading their people. Bellamy was here for them, but ultimately, Abigail and Marcus were in charge. "I'm here to be what our people need me to be," he further stated, hoping that Kane understood his offer and what he was saying.
Bellamy was not here to rebel against them. He would do what he had to do, stand up for what he felt was right . . . but he wasn't here to fight over power. Title didn't matter to him. Protecting their people did. "Guess we've all come a long way," he added on, upon Marcus' words of how he had initially perceived Bellamy to who he saw him as now. And his own words hinted to the fact that his opinion and perception of Marcus had also changed. "Desperation and the will to survival changes a person." It changed all of them. And Bellamy's desperation had started with a single gun shot to Jaha's chest.

"I'm here for my people," Marcus watched him, knowing how true it was. Everything Bellamy had done thus far had been to support the 100 kids that the Ark had failed. "Our people," A small smile tugged on Marcus' lips at those words, but it didn't last long. He approved of Bellamy's chance in terms. He wanted to see more leadership come out of the younger man; and wanted to make sure he understood that Marcus would give him the support needed to grow into the role.
"I'm here to be what our people need me to be," Good, because with over 40 of the kids saved form the mountain, their parents, plus the adults that had been taken--there was many who saw Blake as the one who did not left them. He had gone in to face the mountain alone, and had not left until he had finished the job. Though Marcus knew all too well the weight of that job. He too had gotten many killed, thought the events were very different. "Guess we've all come a long way. Desperation and the will to survival changes a person." Yes, that he knew very well too, for it had been these emotions that had driven him to get 320 people killed on the Ark--pointlessly.
"I know the events of mount weather must weigh on you. I want you know if you need any help, that I know something of what your feeling." It wasn't easy for Marcus to make the offer, but he didn't want Bellamy to feel he was dealing with it alone and crack under the weight. A man he might be, but no one should have to bare that guilt. Marcus wasn't sure how he made it day to day sometimes.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Marcus spoke of Mount Weather, and the mere mention caused Bellamy's jaw to clench with the heavy emotion associated with it. It was not ever something that left his heart, mind, body, or soul. It would forever haunt him. Forever be something that he couldn't even speak about. It was Marcus saying that he knew something of what he was feeling that caused Bellamy to look at him, a flicker of curiosity crossing his features. What did he blame himeslf for? It seemed like he was referring to something specific, rather than the entire notion of sending the delinquents down here and everything that had happened to them -- and the rest of the Arkers -- since.
"What do you mean?" Bellamy asked, curious to find out. Did Marcus know what it was to have the blood of over 600 bodies on ones hands? For it was not only the blood of Mount Weather that Bellamy was bathing in . . . it was the blood of those who had died in the culling too. His actions had caused it. Pulling out the radio caused them to kill so many people -- people he grew up with. And that guilt, was also not so easily forgotten to dismissed, despite his lack of discussion on it.

Bellamy asked what he meant and Marcus had rather not tried to explain, but he knew that there was no way Bellamy could know what had happened on the Ark. No one was rising up and pointing fingers in blame, but Marcus knew that they should be. He had taken 320 loved ones from them, and now they were following him and thanking him, and he wasn't sure they should be. Once he had just assumed they would, as was his right by his title. Now he saw things differently.
"I am saying that, I am aware of the weight that falls upon a person, when they spoke the right words or pressed a button and had over 300 lives taken. It's not an easy weight to bare. No matter how much it had to be done." Or how much it didn't have to be done. Because just after the culling the radio had worked. Had he given it it enough time, had he not pushed so hard--then their would be more alive today. He knew many would have died anyway when the Ark lost power, but not everyone. They could have saved more.
