my brave boy
YOU HAVE A SISTER
Bellamy was six years old and enjoying the activities that a child could. The Blakes were not at all privileged, but they managed and it was what made Bellamy a rather happy child. A curious one. Always trying to learn everything he could. His mother was so filled with knowledge and read him the best books as well as told him the most intriguing stories. Today, he had gone to the library in search of a new book, but there was also an art circle being run.
It was free of charge, and he quickly joined the group. His mother hadn't been feeling well the past little while, so Bellamy made her a get well soon card. As previously recognized, they couldn't afford a great deal so the use of these art supplies was the perfect way to make something for her! Excitedly, he spent far more time than the other kids delicately working on an intricate card.
When he was finished, he proudly smiled at it, forgetting about selecting a book all together. Instead, he went straight home, opening the door and seeing his mom at the table. "Mama!" He exclaimed as he rushed toward her. His hands were clasped behind his back, hiding the card. "I have something for you," he said with a grin as he looked at her, wanting to build the anticipation. But excitement took over and he whipped out the card, handing it to her.

It wasn’t easy, hiding a pregnancy, but it was easier with friends helping her and her pretending she was sick, while still working. With cloth always covering her middle, Aurora managed to fool her friends. And really there was not much she had to hide anyway. It was her little boy that gave her the biggest problems. She had to tell him what was up, but he was so young. She didn’t want to scare him into not saying anything to anyone. It would be the easiest way, she knew, but in that case easy was wrong, too.
Aurora sat on one of the beds, a blanket she was repairing on her legs, covering her belly as well. She hadn’t expected Bellamy to come home just yet. He was meant to be in the Library, filling this curious little head of his with more knowledge. She loved how easy he was, how greedy for knowledge he was, greedy enough to be sent to the library, where he could spend hours lost in books of various kinds. The mother looked up as her son came in. He had something for her? How?
“Bellamy, come here.” She said, wanting to give him the hug she tended to give him when he came home. “What do you have?” Hopefully nothing bad. She couldn’t deal with a situation like that at the moment, but usually Bellamy was a good boy. It couldn’t be bad.

YOU HAVE A SISTER
Bellamy's smile grew as his mother urged him to come closer. He felt the thrill and excitement over being able to gift her with something . . . something he had made! Something he had managed to access the proper resources to make! When he was close enough, hands still behind his back, he finally brought them forward to reveal the card for her, a widespread grin on his lips, his eyes bright with joy.
"I made this for you!" He exclaimed excitedly as he held out the card, one that held the words of hope that she felt better soon. "They had a craft table at the Library! I made it there! I hope it makes you smile!" Because she hadn't been well and he felt sad seeing his mom so sick. She kept working though, and always told him stories at night . . . but she looked different. Paler than usual. He noticed that. And the fact that she spent a long time in the bathroom in the morning smetimes. Whatever it was, he wanted her to get better! "Do you like it?" He asked with wide eyes, as if his life depended on her next words, the answer to his question.
