my sister
MY RESPONSIBILITY
Bellamy never thought that he would be a criminal. Though, he supposed he still didn't see it that way. Since the second his mother had told him she was pregnant, he knew. He knew that their lives would be drastically different. The laws said that a family could not have a second child, and this law was one that they were consciously breaking. Octavia was a few years old now, which meant she needed food beyond her mother's milk.
They were already among the less privileged and their rations didn't seem like enough. He knew his mother was hungry. Even if she never showed it. So today, Bellamy was going to take a big step in protecting his family. He was going to steal food for them. His mother didn't know about this because she may have tried to stop him . . . but he needed to do it! He didn't want his mother or sister to be hungry. He could give up most of his portion of food without a problem . . . but his mother often told him he was a growing boy and needed it more. The guilt weighed heavily on the young Blake, so he was going to do this! The food was right there, wrapped in a packet and Bellamy was currently sneaking up toward it.
He had been watching the scene unfold for quite some time. Patience. Caution. This wasn't something to be reckless about. Once the guard had his back turned, Bellamy's hand reached for the package of food and gripped it. Just when he was about to slide it off the table, he could see the guard start to turn around. The young boy's eyes widened in fear. Oh no no no! This wasn't good. He felt numbed in placee. This was wrong and Bellamy knew it, but he would do anything to take care of his family. Yet, this was the first time he had stolen anything. And it showed with the sudden panic that filld him and caused him to stay frozen in place, his hand still on the food that rested on the table.
