He has a rough exterior, his features displaying his less than welcoming personality. He is usually seen in the uniform of a guardsman, but when off duty, has a casual dress -- like most others on the Ark.

.:Personality:. Derek is not your typical friendly, 'I want to save the world' type of guy. His social skills are lacking, as he has little patience for people. He has a hard exterior and hardly ever lets his guard down. He says and does whatever comes to mind, making him rude, impulsive, and not the most pleasant person to be around. He is bitterly sarcastic, and lacks sympathy for others. He has a very short fuse, making him a hothead, and making him lash out the second his anger is triggered, which is easily accomplished. He shows little respect toward his superiors but still knows better than to provoke them too much. The risk of being floated is always there and he knows better than to say anything that could be taken as treason or blatant disregard for the authorities on the Ark.

.:History:. Derek's mother passed away when he was young thus he was raised by only his father who was a highly respected member on the guard. It was expected that Derek would follow in his father's footsteps . . . which he did, to some extent. His father passed away when he was twenty years old, falling victim to an illness and not recovering. Derek was already an established member of the guard, though he wasn't quite like his father.

He was given the position and tolerated out of respect for who his parent was, however he was known to be rude, blunt, a bit harsh and volatile even. He however still knows his limits, aware that the punishment could be death and having no intention of getting himself floated. He was among those who had survived when the Arkers were sent down to Earth and resumes his position as a guardsmen . . . only with less restraint as getting floated is no longer a possibility.
