Diyoza has pale skin, grayish eyes, and light brown hair with partially grown out blonde highlights. The most distinguishing features about her are the large scar around her neck, and the tattoo on her shoulder that has been burned away. Diyoza is pregnant, approximately five months, and hides it by wearing the armor of a Eligius security guard. Even at this stage in the pregnancy, she is in exceptional health and is able to disarm groups of would-be-killers with moderate ease.

She is cold and sarcastic, her voice a deadly weapon. Diyoza is, first and foremost, an alpha and the leader of the pack. She is fearless, confident and very calculating. The reason people rally to her cause isn't because she is a savior of others, but because she is a charismatic woman, able to manipulate people and situations to benefit herself. Diyoza is also a survivor because she is willing to made the hard decisions, the cruel and ruthless ones. Every decision she makes it to ensure her continued position of power.

She is cautious, observant, and deeply intelligent, which contributes to her continued survival. She knows when it is time to push a situation and when it is time to let her develop naturally. Diyoza is very maternal and is protective towards her unborn daughter, and is willing to kill the child's father to protect her from him. She has proven to be quite a reasonable person though this is often a ruse to lure others into a false sense of security. She tends to speak her mind without concern for others feelings.

As a former Navy SEAL, Diyoza is in excellent physical condition. She has advanced strength, stamina, and endurance. She is an exceptional fight, trained in various forms of combat: most notable Diyoza is skilled at unarmed combat, and an excellent marksman. A brilliant tactician as well, she has a notebook filled with battle plans and formations.

There is not much recorded about Charmaine Diyoza's early childhood. It is noted that she served in the US military prior to the first nuclear explosion, where she reached the rank of Colonel. During this time she became a decorated officer, having earned a bronze star and decorated for valor three times. During the Battle of San Francisco Diyoza was in the thick of conflict giving orders to evacuate refugees into aircraft carriers, and under her instruction soldiers pushed helicopters from rooftops to make room for more evacuees.

She went AWOL and was inactive for some time following this event before resurfacing as a wanted terrorist working with the United Liberation Army. Diyoza ordered countless bombings and assassinations for the group, claiming that she was fighting against a government that had become fascist. This lead to her become the most wanted criminal in the world until the day of her arrest several years later.

A SEAL team that she had personally trained were sent to apprehend her. Her father was killed during the mission and she attempted suicide by slashing her own throat as she would not be taken alive. Diyoza survived, with a nasty scar as a reminder of that day, and was sentenced to life without parole for treason, terrorism, and homicide. It was this event that would led to her being one of the prisoners on Eligius IV sent to an Asteroid Mining Penal Colony. Allied with Paxton McCreary, a mutiny began, with the prisoners rallying behind the duo. All of the crew, with the exception of the pilot, were murdered: this included the only doctor on board.

The ship returned to Earth's orbit and a smaller drop ship was dispatched to investigate the planet. It was here on the last green patch left, that the Eligius prisoners encountered Clarke Griffin, Wonkru, and the consequences of their actions.
