HAPPY BIRTHDAY BELLS!!! Have this starter as my gift to you <3 Space had sounded so amazing. Isaiah remembered the first talk about the Space People, the first rumors that a group had came down to Earth from space and managed to survive on the radiation soaked Ground. Those rumors had seemed as made-up as the fairy tales that Isaiah loved to read. Then, those people were in their home, a part of their community. Bright eyed and bushy tailed, these people had been such a exciting addition to the monotomy that had been life in Mount Weather. Watching things as silly as them eating food, well, Isaiah had always wondered why they had been so in love with Mount Weather's food--it had been good, yes, but he would have assumed that space food would have been interesting too. But no, as Isaiah eyed the green sludge that Monty had placed onto the table, he could understand why chicken and chocolate cake would taste orgasmic to someone who had grown up in space. Space had sounded so amazing but Isaiah was starting to question that picture he had in his head now that he was actually up in space. Glancing around at the odd mismatched group of Space People and Outsiders, Isaiah wondered who would actually be the person to taste the food, if that's what it could be called, that Monty said they would be suriving on for the next five years. Whoever it would be, it wasn't going to be Isaiaih. He didn't want to go near the sludge, let alone actually put it int his body. There were a few other people with similar expressions who Isaiah could only guess were thinking along the same lines as him. What surprised him, however, was that it was Murphy who stepped forward. With a roll of his eyes he had picked up one of the bowls and drank the sludge. He even made a sarcastic comment. Isaiah wondered if this was some sort of way that Murphy thought he could impress Emori--if it was, Isaiah didn't think it would work that way. At the very least, he wasn't impressed by it. Maybe a little intimidated. Isaiah glanced over at Bellamy, his lips turning up into a smile. He had wondered if Bellamy would be the one to try the sludge, honestly, it would have surprised him a lot less than Murphy. For as long as Isaiah had known Bellamy, he had seen the man do so many heroic things. Trying some gross looking food to prove it was safe, that seemed minor. Of course, that heroic attitude that Isaiah saw in Bellamy didn't always do good things for him. It had been what seemed like such a long time ago, yes, but Isaiah still felt the pain of loss. He still dreamed of his parents and friends each night. He tried to make himself believe that it was good that he was alive, the last resident of Mount Weather, but he was still trying and not succeeding in gaining that particular attitiude. Well, it was somewhat bittersweet at the very least that he got to experience what it was like in space. After having gotten to finally be on the Ground, only for it to yet again become unliveable for him. Lost in his own thoughts, it wasn't until an uproar of noise broke out in the small crowd that Isaiah noticed what had happend. Murphy was on the ground, his eyes closed. Someone had turned him onto his side but Isaiah couldn't quite clearly see who as he could barely see Murphy through the others that had crowded around him. Giving a quick, panicked glace at the other bowls of sludge on the table, Isaiah moved into the crowd. "You didn't say that sludge would kill us!" Isaiah said, whispering in a panic, partly in Monty's direction but partly in no direction at all. "I am not eating that," he continued, his voice even quieter. He could see the slow rise and fall of Murphy's chest, a sign that that the man was still alive, and while that was a good sign, it didn't make the situation any better. |
