whatever THE HELL WE WANT Space was not how anyone expected it to be. Perhaps expectations could not even be set on what awaited them when they returned to the Ark. But if one thing rung true, it was Bellamy's words of how they would be tested every day. Even with the passage of three ways, these tests did not end. Being in the same closed space with six others certain resulted in ample arguments . . . but that was what family did. And that was exactly what they were: family.
Each night they would all sit together, exchanging stories of their past. Those who had been on the Ark talking about their lives here, those who were raised on the ground offering adventures of their youth. Eventually the crowd would trickle, one by one, until more often than not, it was just Bellamy and Echo who remained. The conversation continued between them, sometimes for hours. It was . . . strange, considering their past. But the strange part wasn't that they conversed so casually and in such a relaxed manner. The strange thing was how it developed without Bellamy even realizing it. The effect it had of him, completely unbeknownst to him. That is, until the few nights that he did not have that added conversation with Echo.
Sleep was something he struggled with for his entire life. On the Ark, it would be his fear for Octavia. On the ground, it was always the images of those he killed haunting him. The early days back in space, it was a multitude of things. But sleep had inexplicably come with more ease . . . and it wasn't until Bellamy made the connection that he realized why that was. Echo. The nights they had didn't sit with her, he struggled. Tossing and turning, lacking any sort of inner peace that he had apparently found within their conversations.
It led to a day of Bellamy trying to process what was happening. More and more realziations flooding him. Perhaps the grandest one of all, making it impossible to keep it to himself. A couple more nights went by, where Echo would depart with Emori and Raven, as Murphy and Emori were at odds. But this time, Bellamy would not attempt to sleep. He said in silence and solitude for hours, battling thoughts of telling her versus remaining silent. But what it came down to . . . was that it was not fair of him to not tell her. She was his family. He just didn't realize how close that bond was, until recently.
Hours passed until Bellamy could no longer remain with words unspoken. He made his way to Echo's room, standing outside of it for . . . well, he wasn't sure how long. His throat dried. A fisted hand raised to knock yet paused mid air. His jaw clenched, mind still reeling with what this all meant. She deserved to know. And with that determination, took a deep breath and knocked on her door, despite the late hour or thoughts of waking her from slumber.

Echo had no experience when it came to space. She wasn't like the others; she hadn't grown up there. Her only relief was knowing that she wasn't alone. Emori hadn't experienced space before either. It didn't matter that the two were from different clans, all that mattered was that they were experiencing this for the first time with someone else. She was glad that it didn't take long for everyone to fall into a pattern. They worked together and they became a family. It was another thing Echo had never experienced before and quite frankly, she wasn't sure she would ever experience it. But she had a family and she actually enjoyed it. Her parents had been killed when she was young so she hadn't experienced much love or companionship in her life. Echo had only ever known war and chaos. Life on the Ark was a stark contrast to her previous life.
Opening up and talking about her life had been a strange thing. It had taken a while for Echo to divulge the secrets of her past, but with the help of Monty's moonshine, she had eventually told her own war stories. Echo had some of the most interesting stories, tales of espionage and preparing for battles. She didn't find them all that interesting but the others had disagreed. Some of Echo's favorite stories were about life on the Ark. It was fascinating, yet not all that different from life on the ground. On the Ark people had to fight to survive and their lives were never guaranteed. They didn't have it easy and they had to fight for food. Their clans were divided into stations, even though they all worked together unlike the clans on the ground. She liked finding the blinding similarities between their worlds.
One thing that had surprised Echo the most was how much she enjoyed talking to Bellamy. Usually the night would fade away and the others would retire to their quarters, but Bellamy and Echo would stay up late and talk. They talked about everything and nothing at all. Occasionally they spoke of their demons and formed some sort of camaraderie between the two. Echo wasn't sure Bellamy would ever forgive her for what she had done, no matter how much she regretted it, but those moments gave her the smallest amount of hope. She didn't want him to hate her, although she was still often confused as to why he had stopped her from dying back on the ground. Bellamy had always struck something unknown with Echo, ever since he had come back to save her in Mount Weather. It was the first time someone hadn't let her down, the first time someone outside of her clan had looked out for her.
There were a few nights Echo retired early with Raven and Emori. It wasn't that she didn't want to stay up talking with Bellamy, but she had other relationships to tend to while on the Ark. Emori was going through a rough time with Murphy and even though she liked his jokes, she had to support her friend to the best of her ability. Eventually she would retire to her own room where she would stay up most of the night, unable to sleep. It hadn't gone unnoticed by the grounder that her nights met with sleep were often started with conversations with Bellamy. But she didn't want to push him. She wanted to give him the space that he needed because she still hoped they would mend their relationship some day.
Echo was pulled from her thoughts when she heard the sound of someone knowing on her door. It was really late and wasn't sure who else could possibly be awake. "It's open," she called out, not too loudly in case her voice carried and woke up the others. She stayed sitting on her bed, figuring that it was Emori or Raven wanting some space from the other.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT The voice announcing that it was open, caused Bellamy to pause again. He knew that despite his brief moment of hesitancy, he was going to give in. There was no turning back now. He slowly opened the door, not yet passing the threshhold. But just shifting the door open enough so that he could be seen. "Hey," he greeted, looking at her and trying to determine if he had woken her up. She didn't seem overly groggy, but perhaps that was just his wishful thinking in that he hoped he wasn't awakening her.
"Just came to see how you were doing." It wasn't technically a lie. He wasn't sure when he had become so . . . personally invested in her well being. In a way that surpassed that of a mere member of their group. It went deeper than that. "Did I wake you up?" He asked, knowing that was an important question, and wouldn't intrude by stepping over that threshold until he was certain that he was not a disturbance.

Truthfully, Bellamy Blake was the last person she had expected for it to be. Still, she wan't disappointed by the sight of him. Echo had missed spending the nights talking to him. It had soothed her mind and allowed her to sleep. Since then, she hadn't been getting enough sleep but they had nothing but time up here. She did whatever she could to ensure their survival but people took a lot of naps when there was nothing to do. The idea was appealing, getting to sleep without having to worry about someone slitting your throat in the middle of the night. But there were many other things that kept Echo's mind busy.
"Hey," she replied, offering him a small smile. Echo wondered what he was doing there. It was too late for him to need anything, and even if something had gone wrong then he would have gotten Raven or Monty first. He asked how she was doing and she raised her eyebrows at him. Was he being serious? Since when did he care about her wellbeing? "Oh. Uhm, I'm fine. How are you doing?" Echo asked. The idea of him waking her up was almost comically, and a soft chuckle left her lips. "No, you didn't wake me up," she assured him. "Why, what's up?"

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was glad to hear that he at least didn't wake her. Nor did she seem too disturbed by his presence. He casually stepped in a little more, still lingering near the door but was now at least in her room. How did he even bring up the subject? Her question provided a clear entry to the subject.
"I'm fine," he answered quietly. As fine as to be expected considering the circumstance they were all under. "How's Emori holding up?" While there was genuine concern for her, it wasn't the purpose he had come here. Bellamy was still trying to figure out what to say, how to say it. But at least this was a safe subject for the time being. Besides, if Emori was anything like how Murphy was handling it . . . Bellamy could only imagine how much support she would need from her friends.

His inability to fully enter the room had Echo on edge just slightly. He obviously wasn't here to stay but she could see that he had something on his mind. It wouldn't take long for Echo to get annoyed by it and she'd force it out of him if he didn't open up. At least now she was a little more comfortable doing so, ever since they had spent countless nights talking to one another. He asked about Emori and Echo knew that still wasn't the reason for his visit. Still, she obliged him by answering his question. "She's alright, I guess," Echo said with a shrug. "I've never really had to comfort someone over relationship stuff." Politics and killing people she knew, but not this.
Echo sat on her bed with her legs pulled up and crossed. She looked Bellamy over, looking for signs as to what might be on his mind. Even though Echo felt she knew him better, she still didn't know him well enough to take a guess as to what was on his mind. After a moment of silence between the two, Echo tilted her head to the side and asked, "Why are you here Bellamy?"
