It was the air. It was the feeling of solid ground beneath her feet. It was the wide open space, the lack of adults and classes, the possibilities. For Harper McIntyre, being on the ground was everything, far beyond what she could have imagined on the Ark.
Harper was sitting with the other delinquents around the campfire in a rare moment of stillness. Night was falling on this, the first day Harper had known in which there actually was a night. She watched another wristband fall into the fire and felt her own bare wrist. It wasn't a hard decision to abandon the piece of metal that tied her to the Ark - she had no attachment to it. Screw the Ark, and everyone up there who tried to cage her - who had caged her. Whatever the hell we want. It was Bellamy Blake's motto, and Harper had no problem adopting the same.
In the sky above, there was a rumbling sound. Harper, in addition to several others, glanced up at the unfamiliar sound. A second later, the sky opened and drops of water poured out. There were shrieks and laughs around her, which Harper was sure she joined, but she kept her face up as the rain kept coming. The water was cold and she was going to be soaked in a minute but she didn't care. Rain - she was feeling rain. She opened her mouth and let some of the drops into her mouth, completely unable to compare the taste to anything else.
Laughing, Harper looked back down at the people around her. Some people were already getting over their initial delight, running for the drop ship and the cover it promised. Her eyes caught Miller's, finding he hadn't moved yet either. "It's raining!" she shouted over at him, walking closer so he could hear her better. "God, Miller, we're on the ground!" It probably the most obvious, dumb thing she could have shouted, when they'd already been on the ground most of the day, but she just needed to share how amazing she felt with someone else.

Notes: Hope this works! I'll get a better handle on Harper as we go.
