.:Nick Name:. Mari, Angel
.:Affiliation:. Mount Weather
.:Age:. Fourteen
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Mari has her father's eyes. Her mother would always tell her that; again and again like a mantra drilled into her head-- as if having her fathers eyes would somehow make him a memory. Though, besides her eyes she really doesn't share many traits with the man. If not for her olive toned skin and dark hair, one would never think them to be related. She's a small girl with shoulder length brown hair that is rather wiry and straight. It lacks the volume and length that her father's side of the family clearly possessed. She's looked at images of the cousins and grandparents from way back when and they all look like Hispanic models that grace the earth with their presence and often wondered what went wrong. She's not girly, at all. She's a jean jacket wearing scoundrel who would be mistaken for a boy more often if they didn't keep their hair nice and short. Her boyish features have never earned her many favors, but that's fine. Her dark brown eyes; her fathers eyes are not filled with warmth like the man she never met. Actually, they are normally cold and indifferent with an eye roll just behind them. Well, that is if she doesn't know you.

.:Personality:. Sarcastic, rude and always a tad rebellious are traits that Mari is known for. She's often sassing off her superiors with colorful Spanish; even English expletives at times. She does not care- Her mother is an engineer like her father was and rarely has time for her which has given her a lot of time to herself. She's been teased so often that now she lashes out at even the slightest of odd looks. If a boy pulls her hair, she punches them in the nose. If a teacher gives her detention, she pranks them with thumb tacks. She's no stranger to trouble and also no stranger to kind souls giving up on trying to fix her. Her own mother cannot control her antics and has given up a long, long time ago. Mariangel has the run of the place and makes day to day life irritating for some. Though, there are times when other aspects of her personality shine. Curiosity is a trait that always seems to pull through. She's a silent watcher and observer- desperate to learn how everything works. For a while her mother tried to hone in on that curiosity but gave up after some time. Mariangel doesn't care about engineering. She cares about farming and life; astronomy too. Life inside Mount Weather is so lame. She's obsessed with the space men and wants to learn everything about them. Even outside her curiosity though, Mari is fiercely protective and bold. She will always stand up for her friends and those who can't deffend themselves. Often with violence, but it's the thought that counts. She's gifted, when she bothers to apply herself. Though, she is not interested in what people think about that. At her core, Mari is a quiet, studious and curious girl with a knack for getting into trouble. She bores easy and when that happens trouble is soon to follow. Her education is not exactly a priority of hers, but rather a hobby that has given her the ability to speak in both spanish and english fluently. She now is graduating to high school and her soon-to-be teachers are terrified.
.:Special Skills:. Mari speaks both Spanish and English thanks to school and her mother. Due to her Hispanic background, her mother has believed that she should study the language out of respect for her father and the generations before her, despite the fact that very few in Mount Weather speak it. She has an affinity for learning and loves to tackle new tasks until they get boring.

.:Birthplace:. Mount Weather
.:Family:. Mari's father and grandmother were both engineers, though her father died due to radiation sickness after a breach on a floor he was working on. Her great grandfather was a talented scientist who earned his place in Mount Weather, despite his background. Her mother comes from a very different background, though she believes in keeping Mariangel close to her Hispanic ties and has learned spanish to teach to Mari-- hoping she follows the tradition. Mariangel never met her father, as he died when she was only a month old.
.:History:. Mari never knew her father, or even mourned his passing. She was too young to remember, even though her mother never wants her to forget. On her fathers side, there were years and generations of struggle to get to where they were when doomsday hit. Her great, great grandmother was a humble woman living in New Mexico; a daughter of undocumented immigrants who struggled to get her own citizenship when she became an adult. She wasn't an educated woman, or even particularly bright. It was a struggle. When she had her son, she pushed him to be better; to do better. With her pushing and stubbornness she raised a scientist who specialized in bioengineering. His research involved environmental adaptation and naturally attracted quite a bit of attention. Though most of his work was theoretical it earned him a spot on the lifeboat and now he's a figure in a story told to Mari every single time her mother has a moment. She loved her father so much... Sometimes Mari thinks that all the stories are more for her benefit.
As she's grown, Mari has gone through bullying and her fair share of trouble. She's gotten scrappy and riled up to the point that her mother simply cannot and will not control her. She's been brought home by guards numerous times and had at least twenty heart to heart chats with teachers about how smart she is and how if she applied herself she could be brilliant. To that, Mari says screw you. Though she's become a smart kid, she's still a troublemaker. In fact if she's speaking, it's probably not a very nice line of dialogue. In fact, she's shown some signs of calm... Her silent and curious nature has earned her a decent reputation with the farm industry as well as the guards who have seen the outside world. For people like that, her curious nature outweighs her sass. When the space men came, Mariangel was enthralled by them. Her mother even helped hide a few of them before everything fell apart. She wanted to know everything about them... but like the rest of Mount Weather, she didn't survive when the radiation came.
