All great conflicts begin with passion, and the formation of the Sith was no different. It began when a small sect of Jedi Knights began practicing extended uses of the Force. Other Jedi looked upon these new powers with suspicion, suspecting that such power would only lead to abuse. The rogue Jedi were exiled along with their teachings, but they would not be silenced. The Galactic Republic became involved and went to war with the Sith alongside the Jedi, known as the Great Hyperspace War, and the Sith were defeated. However, one Sith Lord and his followers survived and went into hiding. He re-founded the Empire, naming himself Sith Emperor and appointing twelve Dark Lords beneath him as his council, and used the power of the dark side to keep himself alive for over a thousand years. In a move that took the Republic completely by surprise, a Sith fleet of thirty warships launched a massive assault, and war was brought on again.
The Great Galactic War is at its peak, twenty years after the Sith launched their revenge attack. Both Jedi and Sith are losing numbers every day, and both sides race to find new initiates to be trained for their cause. Some Jedi are becoming disquieted with the Order, and believe the Sith Empire is the future. Other Jedi do not wish to involve themselves in the war, and refuse to defend either side. The Galactic Republic struggles for control with the Sith Empire, battling for power over the galaxy on a daily basis. The citizens stuck in the middle are angered by the fighting as their homes and lives are destroyed, while some benefit from the chaos. Some days the Jedi are victorious, other days the Sith. No one knows how any of it will end.[/align]
