.:Name:. Malia (derived from Magnolia Plantation) .:Nick Name:. Lia (reserved for those closest to her) .:Affiliation:. Yujleda .:Age:. 16
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Malia is quite a beautiful girl. Granted, it helps that she stays fairly clean and has fine clothes to wear. But there’s also a natural beauty to her young face. She has a habit of twirling her hair or biting her lip when she’s thinking. There tends to be a certain grace to her mannerisms after lots of childhood training. Although she can ditch that elegance in a heartbeat if she wants. Her eyes can light up like the stars or burn with the fury of a sun depending on her mood. She seems capable of radiating ice when she gets upset, but conversely, her smile can warm a room. .:Height:. 5’4” .:Portrayed by:. Danielle Campbell

.:Personality:. Malia was raised as royalty, and it shows. She can be a little demanding at times, although she prefers to think of it as having a commanding presence. She learned just enough of politics as a child to know a thing or two about manipulating people, and her stubbornness can sometimes get her in trouble. So can her opinionated sass. As she matures though she’s learning to recognize when it might be better to lose the battle in favor of winning the war. She has a keen mind capable of rapidly analyzing the possible outcomes of a situation. And she can crack her sharp tongue like a whip. She also doesn’t take kindly to being pushed aside, so anyone who tries it will find themselves facing her fury.
With that said, Malia isn’t all regal calculation. In fact, the older she gets the less that side of her comes out. It’s taken her a while to learn how to drop the persona that was hammered into her as a child, and even now she’s only truly open around those closest to her. She’s not always the best at verbalizing her emotions or being there for others. But she’s getting there. The death of her father broadened her horizons dramatically, giving Malia an almost childlike appreciation of the world around her. She smiles much more in recent years and eagerly drinks up whatever experiences life offers. Although her curiosity can occasionally turn mischievous. Truth be told, Malia’s still figuring out who she is. Beneath her pretty face is a deep fear of never living up to whatever it is she’s supposed to be. She keeps her low sense of self-worth well hidden though. She’s very much a diamond in the rough. And while the final product isn’t quite clear yet, it will definitely be something magnificent.
.:Special Skills:. eloquent speaker, sharp bargainer, persuasive, commanding when she wants to be

.:Birthplace:. Arlest (Yujleda territory) .:Family:. @kiawah (older half-brother, Emperor of Yujleda), father (former emperor, died when she was 12), mother (died in childbirth) .:Occupation:. heir presumptive until Kiawah has children .:History:. Malia was conceived purely out of necessity. Her father needed to produce an heir after losing his sons and first wife, and he chose a Yujleda woman who provided a suitable match. But there was no love lost between the two. It was a short-lived affair with the new empress dying in childbirth. Malia was named for the seat of her family’s power, and she never really knew if that was because her father actually saw some value in her or if he just didn’t care enough to think of anything else.
Most would probably consider Malia’s childhood a privileged one. She had a roof over her head and warmth in the winter and never had to go without food. But life was also strict. Her father’s heart had been broken by the loss of his first family, and he had no desire to love again. He kept his daughter at a firm emotional distance. Malia spent her days with tutors learning about politics and whatever other subjects her father deemed necessary for a future ruler of Yujleda. Success was merely adequate. Failure was sharply punished. Malia became determined to prove herself, hopeful that doing so would somehow earn her father’s love. It never did. No matter how hard she tried, it was never quite enough. The constant pressure shaped her into a cold princess with deep anger. Having no friends didn’t help. She was actually quite lonely, although one would never have known it by looking at her.
She was twelve years old when her father became ill. Despite her young age, Malia fully expected to be made empress of Yujleda. But her world turned upside down when her father finally revealed his deepest secret – he had a son, a boy believed dead before Malia was born. And it was this son, not Malia, who would lead their people. Just like that, Malia’s entire sense of identity was gone. She didn’t take it well. What twelve-year-old would? To say she and Kiawah got off to a rocky start would be a severe understatement. Malia saw her brother as having stolen what was rightfully hers, and she was determined not to go down without a fight. She actually went out of her way to make things difficult for him. Not that she could do much damage at twelve, but still. It wasn’t pretty.
The bickering and fighting went on for two years. Malia was fourteen and still as stubborn as ever when, in the middle of an argument, Kiawah finally asked her what exactly it was she wanted. The words took Malia by surprise. It was a question she had honestly never considered. Her ascension had always been assumed, so much so that she had spent two whole years fighting her brother for taking it away. But did she actually want the throne? She really didn’t know.
That moment proved to be a turning point. The more Malia thought about it, the more she realized she had absolutely no idea what she wanted from life. It had never mattered. But suddenly she had a chance to find out. And in some strange twist of fate, it was the existence of Kiawah, the brother she had loathed, that gave her that opportunity. By becoming emperor, he had removed the pressure. Malia could be whoever she wanted. She had only to go out and discover what that was.
Things began improving after that, both between the siblings and for Malia in general. It was as if the whole world had suddenly opened up. She began exploring Arlest with fresh enthusiasm as she tried to decide what exactly it was she wanted to do with her life. She still hasn’t quite figured it out. But she has a brother she has learned to love and even a few carefully built friendships. For the first time in her life, she’s happy. Although the unrest brewing in the coalition may soon shatter that. Malia is hoping it won’t come to war, but if it does, she’s ready to stand firmly beside her brother as the little lioness their father raised her to be.
