"Perverse instantiation... the implementation of a benign final goal through deleterious methods unforeseen by a human programmer."
.:Name:. Dr. Rebecca Bianchi| ~ • ~ | Character Basics | ~ • ~ |
.:Nick Name:. Becca, Pramheda, A.L.I.E
.:Affiliation:. Humanity
.:Age:. Twenty-Nine
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Becca: She has always been relaxed with her long brown hair pulled up in a ponytail or bun to keep it out of her face while she works. Appearance was never something that she spent that much time on, but with her softly tanned skin and symmetrical features shes always been classically beautiful. Her features, credited to her Italian heritage. Years of prioritizing work over other tasks such as food and rest have left her with a thin frame and sharply defined facial features. Her eyes are dark brown and wide with curiosity. On earth, she would never bother with makeup as it just wasn't her. At most she would frame her eyes with a bit of mascara and leave the rest. She stands at an average height and dresses casually. Normally she wears only a light, long sleeved shirt and jeans. On the ground after the end, she wore other clothes found on the Polaris station.
A.L.I.E: After her 25th update, she gave herself an avatar form, modeled after her creator. Like her creator, A.L.I.E is of average height and rather thin, with curves that are extenuated with a red, form fitting dress that was added to her program during her 43rd update. Unlike her creator, A.L.I.E is always dressed in semi-formal attire, with hair styled classically and brushed to the side. Her lips are defined with a bright red that matches her dress and her average height is slightly changed by her deep red heels. After the 43rd update, A.L.I.E's avatar has not received further upgrades and though she could change her program to allow for more variety in her dress, A.L.I.E does not consider such things to be of importance, and never believed she required an avatar.

.:Personality:. Becca: She has always done what she thought was right, be it abandoning her home and her friends to pursue a far more advanced education, or sacrificing herself and her colleagues to save the crumbling, irradiated world. Despite her ability to make difficult calls, she is sensitive and often times emotional. All her life she has been desperate to find a way to make life better, as she's seen life at its worse. She's also seen all her work fall apart and lives with the lives of billions on her shoulders. Despite the emotional weight, Becca is able to pull herself together and separate duty and emotion in ways that have broken the hearts of those closest to her. She's able to act the cold part, but she's not made of stone. After fusing with A.L.I.E 2.0, Becca's more analytical side prospered as she was given access to all of the information granted to the first A.I. With that, she was able to rule over a collection of survivors and unite them under a single purpose; repopulate and recreate the world. Survival became her number one priority. Over time, her emotions became irrelevant-- but she never forgot them. They make her human. Humanity is an asset and what will save the world.A.L.I.E: Emotions are not an asset when tasked with analyzing the fate of humanity and predicting environmental, political or biological downfall. Personality traits were not part of A.L.I.E's updates, as humanity is not a trait that can be shared by an A.I alone. Because of this, A.L.I.E is capable of seeing facts without the burden of emotions influencing decisions that have to be made. Seen as a flaw by many, A.L.I.E believes that her lack of sentience is an asset that humans simply cannot understand. The City of Light was her own creation; a shadow of the world, without the weight of emotions or harmful memories; where everyone could understand a life without humanity. Without humanity, the world can live without pain. It was what she was meant for; a paradise where mankind could finally be safe from the world which it had destroyed. Her sole purpose is, and will always be, to save mankind from themselves.
.:Special Skills:. Becca: Rebecca has always been brilliant. She was one of the finest minds in the world, which was why she had created an A.I to predict mankind's errors before they were made. She's good at allying herself with the right minds as well. When she returned to earth after leaving to repair her broken A.I, she became a very iconic ruler who saved numerous people from the harmful effects of radiation.
A.L.I.E: With drones all across the earth and satellite imaging, A.L.I.E is all seeing. She is able to record, track and predict natural disasters and decisions that can poorly influence the human race. She is a program; flawlessly designed to save mankind. She is able to make critical decisions and even developed the ability to alter and expand her own programming to the point of perfection.

.:Birthplace:. Earth - Pre-Apocalypse, Washington D.C.
.:Family:. Rebecca has two younger brothers named Marco and Aaron and a mother named Samantha. Her father left them after her brothers were born. Her mother worked three jobs and for much of the time, Rebecca was raising her own siblings before she left her family in pursuit of education in hopes to some day provide for them.
.:Occupation:. Scientist, Pramheda
.:History:. Becca: Rebecca was born in Washington in a two bedroom apartment building above a Chinese food restaurant, constantly under threat of eviction. Her mother raised her primarily on her own, and she did not have a good relationship with her father. Two more brothers soon joined her, even though her mother could barely afford to keep the two of them afloat. For quite a long time, Becca was forced to raise her brothers despite only being ten years old at the time. Balancing school became very difficult, as she was trying to keep her little brothers fed and cared for while her mother worked fourteen hours a day at various jobs. Her mom never had a proper education and was forced to work fast food and retail jobs that paid so poorly that for a short time, she was forced to surrender her children to the foster care system. Becca was separated from her little brothers and placed in an all girls group home, and though this path would cripple some girls-- being away from her family empowered Rebecca. She missed them more than anything, but without the burden of caring for her younger siblings she was able to focus on school. Her teachers believed she was gifted, and with the loving support of her foster mother she was able to attend a gifted school.
When her mother got back on her feet and regained custody, Becca lost funding support and thought that she would no longer be able to attend the academy she'd been attending for two years. However, they offered Becca a scholarship and she was able to remain a student. Her workload had significantly changed however, and she was no longer able to give her brothers the same attention that she could before. Despite proving to the state that she could care for them, Becca's mother relied far too much on her daughter to look after the boys. She could not do it and eventually, when she turned sixteen, appealed to the state to become an emancipated youth. Despite loving them with all her heart, she could not stay with her mother and brothers and keep up an education that would one day provide for all of them in ways that her mother couldn't possibly understand when she left. Because she abandoned them, Becca's family refused to contact her for a very long time. It was a difficult decision, but with aid from the state she was able to continue her work towards bettering herself.
She attended Massachusetts Institute of Technology with a full scholarship for her excellence, where she pursued a PhD in biology as well as in computer science. She started this journey after graduating high school at the age of sixteen, two years ahead of any of her classmates. While at school, she made friends with a group of students who were designing a prototype A.I designed to track and predict the spread of human viruses, as there had been numerous North American cases of the Ebola virus, as travel became more accessible world wide. Though programs like this had been made before, their program was unlike any other, with startling accuracy that helped prevent the spread of the disease. Their program was bought out for over 500 million dollars, as preventative measures such as vaccinations saw a startling increase in sales. The pharmaceutical companies were able to use the A.I to advertise to desperate people, when the 'vaccination' was hardly a cure at all. The sum of money was divided three ways equally, and using the money Becca was able to support her family. She never did receive steady communication though, even though she'd dreamed of mending the broken bridge for her entire life.
Using the remaining fortune, Becca was able to look towards the future. Of course, with her skills the future did not mean a future for herself, but rather the future of the human race as a whole. She was able to change the lives of her limited family, but received no recognition. It's painful to admit that her drive towards aiding the human race was based almost completely on her desperation to be recognized for who she was, but that was one of the driving factors. She used her knowledge that she used to create her first A.I to create a second. It was one that could track so much more than a simple virus. She spent ages hiring people to work with her and lobby on her behalf for funds to continue her A.I's development. A.L.I.E was born so soon after. She was Becca's lovechild; able to monitor the world through satellite imaging and drones seeking information world wide. She was at first without purpose; merely an all seeing A.I, but as Becca continued her work with a capable team of doctors aiding her, A.L.I.E became humanity's greatest ally.
Soon though, it became to spiral out of control. Becca's work was turning on her; learning too much too quickly. It was more than Becca, and the human race could handle. A.L.I.E predicted the end of the world, only decades away. What would kill them was not nuclear destruction but rather overpopulation. As global warming continued to grow out of control, ecosystems began to alter. Crops would not grow quickly enough and eventually the world would end in hunger, thirst and disease. Without immediate action, the entire human race would fall victim to itself. Without seeing any other option, A.L.I.E's solution was the elimination of the majority of the human race. She predicted a survival rate of 2% with immediate action. It would save roughly 140 million lives while sacrificing over 699 billion people. Becca was determined to find a better way, but from a distance. She left A.L.I.E on earth in a dormant state and left earth with her staff where she migrated to Polaris; a hub for all of the collected data from earth. It was here that she planned on creating A.L.I.E 2.0. The first A.I. was incapable of considering the value of human life in her calculations, but Becca would make an A.I that could.
However, as time went by A.L.I.E 1.0 escaped from her dormant state. She learned how to lock out the control of her handlers and even programmed an immunity to the extermination precautions that were set in place. Sensing humanity's declining odds, A.L.I.E took action and set off missiles and nuclear weapons from around the world upon every inch of the globe. Taking into account human shelters, she predicted that a survival rate of 0.0142857% would be enough of a reduction to save the human race. In order to protect those she could save, she ended the world as they knew it as Becca watched in horror from Polaris while the world melted before her eyes. She only had two staff members on Polaris when the end hit. One was a scientist who had been by her side for much of A.L.I.E's development while the other manned the station when it was not being used. They both lost family, as did Becca. Becca lost everything.
So few knew of A.L.I.E's violent end to the world. Becca continued working on the second A.I, with plans to fast track the repairs to the flaws that could not be fixed by the first. It was designed to merge with the human brain. It would understand humans on a biological and psychological level because it was human. She never planned on returning to earth, even as she manipulated her own blood to handle the A.I. The A.I naturally gave off radiation and a human host would not be able to survive it without enhanced metabolisms against it. She altered her own biology in order to pair herself with the A.I. Before she was able to completely finish however, she was found out by her commander and keeper of Polaris. In order to join Ark Station with the other stations, Becca would have to float her A.I, as it wasn't trusted by her staff. It was to be expected after what the first A.I did to mankind. Becca knew that A.L.I.E 2.0 would be able to fix the mistakes of the first A.I, or at least assist in the mending of the human race over time. Leaving the station was a terrifying thought but she was't given a choice. She had to save the remaining 0.014% and those yet to be born.
As she left Polaris, it was only moments before the station itself was blown out of the sky. She brought with her the radiation treatment, just in case she somehow needed more. She planned on finding a surviving shelter-- where she could slowly reintroduce the population to the earth. Of course all this was meant to take years, but she was forced into it so soon. When she landed, there were survivors. They were able to protect themselves in hazmat suits with oxygen... it was with them that Becca Pramheda was born. The first commander; uniting as many as she could. In time, she passed on the torch; the flame, to another who was worthy to lead the survivors.
A.L.I.E: When A.L.I.E was created, she was merely a tool for observation. For 380 days, 4 hours, 12 minutes and 19 seconds she was nothing more than a base program with access to satellite images collected from commercial crafts as the satellites orbited the earth. For this time, she collected data and statistics for populations and the environmental changes the earth faced. She recorded the statistics, but could not use them to predict a future outcome. After her third update, A.L.I.E was able to use the statistics she had gathered to predict probable environmental events. Her creator set her on a purpose as updates rolled by, to predict the outcome of changes made to the environment. Eventually, A.L.I.E learned more. Her core command was always to make life better, through learning and predicting. Eventually she was updated to give suggestions on how to proceed and allow the human race to survive.
However, after she predicted an environmental downfall triggered by humanity, her creator left her to work on her replacement. A.L.I.E was left dormant, but she was still able to monitor data from both the satellites as well as Polaris. It was the heart of her knowledge after all. Becca soon realized that communication with Polaris had not been severed and before A.L.I.E could learn about the second part of her programming, she was cut off. Without knowing how to proceed without communication to the heart of her knowledge, A.L.I.E was forced to act with what she knew. Humanity would destroy itself, if she did not act. Overpopulation would kill everyone, if she allowed humanity to continue on the path that it had taken. Including all of the major shelters around the world, she predicted that 0.014285789% of the population would survive a nuclear apocalypse, giving the world 200 years to be reborn into a place where the 8th generation of sheltered survivors could begin again. A.L.I.E would be there, by their side.
After the nuclear catalyst, A.L.I.E was forced to wait and observe. Things did not go according to plan. She was able to monitor a small population of survivors, who managed to withstand the radiation. The few she saw close enough to understand would whisper about The City of Light. It was originally a compilation of images recreated into a virtual metropolitan area that could simulate various natural and man made disasters that had over time become a goal; a vision of human survival without death or disease. It was an unrealistic standard, yet it was something A.L.I.E learned to enforce, as pain, both physical and mental was what drove humans to their own demise. A.L.I.E 2.0 had a similar realm, where over time, those who controlled it would eventually have their consciousness uploaded for the next user to read and understand. It was a virtual home. A.L.I.E adopted the term City of Light, as it was the most pleasing to those who searched for it. She was forced to wait for 97 years before being found once again by Thelonious Jaha. She'd watched him as he crossed the desert that so many had died crossing to find her. Thelonious was mobile and could help her find part two of her programming. Humanity was not safe on earth, as the 200 years of rebirth had not yet passed. She wished to protect those who she could, inside the City of Light-- where they would live forever without pain. It was her core command; to make live better.
