She had looked at the library a bit, but had been unable to focus on what they had to offer. They had books on the Ark but their little library had consisted of the classics and the ones that were deemed important enough to put on the Ark in the first place. Faye had read them all but none of them had really interested her. The library in Mount Weather had more to offer and she had made a note to go back to visit the library at some point. So now the opportunity was presenting itself and she would have company. Hadley would show her where the good books were and where the boring ones were. "I read what we had on the Ark," she explained. "It wasn't much. But I enjoyed some of the stories we had." Catcher In The Rye had been one of her favorites and she had read the book over and over again.
Faye knew he could just be saying those things, saying that he wasn't going to hurt her. But for some reason, she believed his words. She believed that he wouldn't hurt her on purpose or do anything to hurt her. Faye reached forward and squeezed his arm, shooting him a look that showed him that she believed him. "Thanks," she said quietly. "Let's go to the library," she suggested, playing off of his earlier suggestion. If it was a Friday night then maybe no one would be in there. Maybe they would have the place to themselves and they would get to talk more. Faye found herself just wanting to spend more time with him, even if she had wanted nothing to do with him only an hour ago.

tag: Faye BatesHadley caught her eye when she squeezed his arm. He smiled back. "You don't have to thank me..." He shook his head. He hadn't even done anything yet. Plus it was the right thing to do...not harm people. But he knew that there were some in Mount Weather who ignored that instinct. The ones responsible for torturing the Grounders. He placed his hand on hers and gave it a gentle squeeze back.
When she agreed to the library, he smiled again and lead her down the twisting halls closer to the end of the hall where the library doors were. He pushed them open and the walls and walls of books were before them. History, fiction, science, art, everything one could imagine lined the cases of books. He looked around and then back at her. "I could spend every day in here." He laughed softly and blushed at his geekiness, thankful for the dim lighting that hid his reddened cheeks.
"What kind of books are you interested in?" He asked walking past one of the long tables, putting his bag down as he continued walking, looking at all the stacks of books. He liked a lot of books...he could read anything and find it interesting. But he had a feeling she had a certain type. And he knew this library like the back of his hand since he spent tons of time while studying for his career. He would show her whatever she wanted.

Even though she had been in the library before, she was still amazed by the walls of books. They had so much more than they did on the Ark, but it wasn't like it was a hard thing to accomplish. "It seems like a nice place to be," she agreed. It was a good place to escape and on top of that, the books allowed her to escape even further. Faye had a feeling that she would be getting lost in this library more often than not. She knew she had other important things to do, like find a way out, but she also knew that a lot of that would be difficult to accomplish.
"I liked Catcher In The Rye back on the Ark," Faye said. "But like I said, we didn't have much to choose from. I liked a lot of the Grimm fairy tales too but we didn't actually have those. Those were only told verbally because they weren't deemed important enough for the Ark." They only wanted the important ones, much like everything else. "What are some of your favorites?" Faye asked.

tag: Faye BatesHadley nodded his head at her words. "Grimm huh?" He ran his hands over the old dusty binds of the books. "I know we have those here...I've read through them numerous times." He smiled. "They're in the back corner....definitely in my top ten" He had read through them and even had some of his kids read the less gruesome ones for book reports. His favorites though? He had many. "My favorites? Oh there are countless..." He thought for a moment. "1984, The Great Gatsby, A Wrinkle in Time, all the classics really." He smiled. "Sorry...I'm a bit of a geek sometimes." He laughed at himself.
He turned a corner into another stack of books finally reaching the back corner where he had pointed out the Grimm fairy tales. "Which Grimm tale is your favorite?" He looked over the titles. "I quite like 'Little Briar-Rose'....Sleeping Beauty....quite a sad and strange yet captivating story." He pulled out the old book flipping through the pages. "I wish more of the Grimm tales had a happy ending..but then again the Grimm brothers had a birth rite to make their stories....well...grim." He chuckled softly.
Hadley lifted his eyes to hers. "Sorry...I just find knowledge interesting. If I talk too much feel free to tell me to stop." He laughed lightly and felt another blush rising to his cheeks. The library was so quiet...no one was around for the weekend. And yet there was so much noise in a quiet space. So many stories waiting to be told. So many voices wanting to be heard. And then the two young adults...learning each others stories...and hearing each others voices....

She'd be lying if she said she wasn't excited about the idea of getting her hands on an actual Grimm book. She was sure that many details had been left out or changed over the years of the stories being passed down through the generations. Faye wasn't sure why she liked the Grimm version of the fairy tales better than the disney versions. Perhaps it was because she knew stories didn't usually have happy endings and the Grimm versions stuck with that idea. She laughed lightly at Hadley, hearing him list off some of his favorites and claiming to be a geek. "It's fine," she assured him. "The classics were really all we had. But I did enjoy Great Gatsby." She had read 1984 as well but had found the whole thing a little uncomfortable. The idea of the government constantly watching everyone didn't sit well with her and she couldn't help but to feel like her every move was being watched in the mountain.
"I like them all," she said. He listed off of a few of her favorites and she nodded her head. She had heard those ones before. "I enjoyed the one about Cinderella. I don't know, but the idea of these women cutting off their toes because they wanted a shoe to fit was ridiculous," Faye mused. "Well there are happy versions of those stories," Faye pointed out. She laughed lightly at his suggestion of telling him to stop talking. She found his rambling to be cute and she enjoyed listening to him talk. "But I preferred the Grimm ones. I don't know . . . I just found them more realistic. The whole true love and love at first site stuff never seemed real. Happy endings are just stories that haven't finished yet." It wasn't that she didn't believe in love, but she just didn't spend her days dreaming about it.

Hadley smiled when she laughed at him. It was a pleasant sound. He liked it...and he wouldn't mind hearing it over and over again. He wouldn't mind anything about Faye really. Everything she had told him so far or spoken about had only had him more interested in her. She was something different and certainly someone different than those he had experienced in the Mountain. He knew 1984 was probably a difficult story for her. He was practically living the tale...
He listened about her favorite, Cinderella and smiled. She was quirky like him. Liking the idea of the strangeness that is Grimm. It was weird...the stories that is. There is no happy ending. For any of them. He wasn't ever sure why he liked them, but knowing that Faye liked them too, made it okay by him.
And then he heard the sound again. Her laugh.
Hadley lifted his eyes to her and watched as she spoke about true love. He chuckled softly. She was right. "I mean happy endings aren't really endings. You're right in a way as they are beginnings...but that doesn't mean that the happy beginning can't lead to more happiness." He sat down on one of the tables. "Everyone deserves that happiness...even the Grimm fairy tale princesses. Thank goodness for Disney." He winked at her and thumbed through the Grimm tale again.

Happiness. Faye didn't even really know the meaning of the word. Sure, there had been times where her mood seemed happy but she had never found true happiness. Not the happiness that people found in the story books. Faye knew she hadn't been happy on the Ark. Her mother had constantly been fighting for her life until her battle ended, and her father had been floated for stealing. Neither of those events brought happiness to her life and things only got worse when Clarke was arrested. Her whole life was a blur of horrible incidents, one after the other. Things on the ground had been too stressful to even think about being happy. They were too busy trying to survive. No one had time to relax and really enjoy life. Faye wondered if some of the delinquents were truly happy here, and if they were then she didn't want to take that away from them. But she also didn't want them living with happiness that wasn't real. She still didn't feel as if they were safe there.
Faye hummed in agreement and sat down at the table across from him. She had picked up one of the Grimm story books and began looking through it. Most of the titles she didn't recognize and the mere idea got her a little excited. "I don't recognize any of these," she mused after a moment. She smiled down at the book, knowing that she would finally be able to get her hands on some new stories.

tag: Faye Bates Hadley smiled to himself when Faye joined him on the table. It settled his nerves to know that she was getting more comfortable around him. She was something different to him and he wanted to spend time with her. The more time with her the better. She was beautiful and strong...he was shy and timid and yet around her he didn't feel that way. Around Faye, Hadley felt unafraid and he would gladly keep feeling that way.
He turned and watched her read, seeing the small smile break out on her face made him smile. She was so interesting to watch. The way her eyes flickered over the pages, the excitement in her eyes when she read something she hadn't seen before. If the library brought that out in her, he'd take her here time and time again. It was all worth it to see her like this.
Turning back to his own book, he turned the pages as he continued to read, happy with the day and nervous yet excited to see where this new friendship would lead. Because so far...he was more than content with the road they were taking. ~~~Finished~~~~
