ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Vero knew that word would spread fast enough. That soon, there would be a formal announcement made about his elevated position. He was appointed the position of General for Emperor Kiawah; a high honor, and one that swelled Vero with pride and joy. To be able to stand with his Emperor . . . with Kia. His deep care and affection for the man making him more willing to take on this role. To solidify a position as his protector that he had been fulfilling for years. Now with a little more authority. It was indeed an honor and privilege and one that Vero would never take for granted. There were select individuals that he wished to share the news with first; that he wanted to tell in person.
Aro, of course was one of them. The first one. Savannah had been the second. And now Cara. Another close friend of Vero's that he would wish to have words with before everyone else found out at the same time. He made his way back to the general training area, seeing that the days training was drawing to an end. It was afternoon but a shorter day today. When his eyes rest on Cara he approached her. "How was the days training?" He asked. It had not been a formal one, as Vero's attentions were required elsewhere. but he wished to hear how it fared, and trusted Cara's perspective and opinion in the matter to inform him of how it went.

The day’s training had been shorter than usual, but it seemed to last for an eternity. Mainly because Cara was having difficulty focusing. She was still trying to wrap her mind around the concept of Kia as emperor. Not that she didn’t believe he would be a good one. It just seemed surreal. The boy she had trained with was now the emperor.
Still, she managed to keep her head on straight enough not to embarrass herself. Today she had been working with some of the younger warriors. Surveying their progress and skills. Her father had always loved helping in this way, and Cara seemed to have inherited his eye. Following his footsteps felt right.
She had just finished sparring with a girl of about fifteen when she caught sight of Vero approaching. Cara paused long enough to offer the girl a brief suggestion about footwork before clapping a hand on her shoulder and sheathing her sword. Then she made her way towards Vero. She smiled as she reached his side, crossing her arms and turning to face the training grounds with him. “Well enough. We have a few younger ones who could use a lesson in working together. I trust a suitable exercise will be devised.” She glanced over at Vero before inclining her head toward the girl, who was now heading for a group of other young warriors sitting on the sand. “You should keep an eye on that one. Her footwork needs polishing, but she hits hard and thinks quickly. I think it would be worth finding a warrior to take her as a second.”
Those were the only things truly worth mentioning. All else had been as normal. Her report concluded, Cara turned to face Vero. Only now that she was truly looking at him did she notice that there was something different about his demeanor. She couldn’t quite put a finger on it. She tilted her head, her eyes narrowing slightly as she tried to figure it out. “You seem…” What was the word? “…happy.” Not that Vero didn’t do happy. It was just usually for a reason Cara could identify. A victory or a game or a night off. But right now… Right now she had no clue. “Would you care to share the reason?” she asked, giving him a playful nudge with her shoulder. Anything that made Vero happy would make Cara happy for him. But the curiosity was killing her.

ARE ALL I HAVE EVER KNOWN
Vero listened to Cara explain the days events, and how the training fared. "It will be," he confirmed when she spoke of a proper exercise that would be created. Warriors needed to learn to work together. For otherwise, the battle would be lost. "New recruits trying to joken prove themselves by showing off," he said with a slight eye roll, knowing exactly the type . . . and often shutting down such behavior. It was counter productive. For by doing so, they were jeopardizing the others. He then looked over to the other girl that Cara was referring to, eyeing her.
"I'll look into it. See how she spars." By personally engaging in a sparring match with her to assess whether she was ready to be the second to another. Thinking it over, and taking in whatever he knew of the woman already, Cara's next questioned caused him to turn his head and look at her, a hint of a smirk reappearing on his features. "That's one way to describe it," he said a bit teasingly when she commented on his mood being happy. Honored. Privileged. An array of emotions raced through Vero with his new found position.
"The Emperor has chosen a General to command the army." And more importantly, protect the Emperor himself. While Vero knew that Kiawah was capable of defending himself, his position was a dangerous one. And Vero would continue on his mission to offer whatever protection he could offer. A knowing look cast in his eyes would reveal who exactly this chosen General was. As it was not difficult to put two and two together. Especially for someone like Cara.
