.:Name:. Kiawah (named after the island near Charleston, SC) .:Nickname:. In his youth, most people called him Kia. As Emperor, only one still holds the privilege of calling him that. .:Affiliation:. Broadleaf/Yujleda clan, The 12 Clans, Formerly Commander Lexa. (Never recognized the legitimacy of Ontari's commandership.) .:Age:. 23

.:Physical Appearance:. Kiawah has brown skin that speaks of his family's Polynesian ancestry, brown eyes, and black hair. His hair is long and often pulled back in the front, though shorter pieces often fall out and hang around his face in loose curls. He is much shorter and smaller than many of the men he learned to fight with. He has a scar on his face running from above his right eyebrow and moving down his cheek from an accident training in his youth. Another larger scar graces his ribs on his left side where a stab wound had needed to be cauterized in his teens. He usually dresses as commoners do (unless required to attend more formal events among the clans), has a smile he has been told is contagious, and very recently added a full sleeve tattoo down his left arm. .:Height:. 5'8" .:Portrayed by:. Pana Hema Taylor

.:Personality:. Kiawah is kind, compassionate, and loyal. In spite of his royal roots and current position, he does not generally think himself better than those he rules. After having spent much of his youth living as common men would, he is capable of letting loose and enjoying life when he can. He is a benevolent ruler to his people, one who wishes for peace, and kind to those who deserve it even not among his people (though he still holds some reservation toward Sky People). However, while he wishes his clan to remain largely peaceful, he is not blind to the way this world works. He is capable of shrewd political strategy, and a temper of his own should he or his people be crossed, and that can be accompanied by violence when situations demand it. And should one see his usual kind nature and small stature and think him weak, they would have quite a surprise coming for them if they try him. .:Special Skills:. Politically savvy, while still being capable of connecting with common men. Skilled fighter who is good with a sword, but prefers a spear. Absolutely cannot aim an arrow at more than point blank range to save his life. Not afraid to challenge bigger, more skilled opponents in combat, though he is less likely to win with bare hands if his opponent has size on him. Should he find himself in such position, however, normally his General Vero is by his side to lend a heavy hand.

.:Birthplace:. Arlest, in Yujleda territory .:Family:. Real father, former Emperor of Yujleda, deceased when Kiawah was 19 /// Real mother and brother, former Empress of Yujleda and heir to the throne, deceased when Kiawah was 5 /// Nolia, the warrior who raised him as his mother after the age of 6 /// Younger half-sister, did not know he existed until he took her place as Emperor when he was 19 .:Occupation:. Emperor of Broadleaf/Yujleda Clan, warrior .:History:. Kiawah was born in Arlest (formerly Charleston, SC), in Yujleda territory, where the royal family (now comprised of himself and his half-sister) continues to reside and hold political power in what is left of Magnolia Plantation and its gardens. He spent the first five years of his privileged life happy, playing with his slightly older brother, unaware of the strife and struggle that faced most common men and the warriors that fought for them. All that changed when he was five, and a rival clan launched attack on his family that left his mother and brother dead. Recognizing the need to protect Kiawah and their family's future, his father told everyone he'd also died in the attack. Kiawah spent the next several months locked in the mansion away from most people's sight while he grieved his mother and brother's deaths and his father forced him to grow out his hair for reasons he didn't understand until later. When he was taken to Nolia later, shaggy-haired and wearing commoners clothes, he looked like a different boy. He was instructed that he would live with her as though she was his mother. In return, she would train him when he was old enough to become a warrior. His father would not have a vulnerable target take the throne after his passing.
In time, Kiawah (now known exclusively as Kia) grew to love Nolia and appreciate her as though she really was a mother to him. He watched his father move on and produce a half-sister several years later that he would never meet until later… until after he was named Emperor instead of her Empress, which would be quite the shock to her.
Once he was of age to train, however, he was far smaller than any of the others who were taken to train as warriors. He got picked on quite a lot, told he was only in training because his "mother" was in charge of it… which was true. Which only spurred him to train harder than anyone. He had to prove himself. And when he was not training, his father arranged for him to be taught the ways of politics and rulership, expecting him to be well-prepared for his position when the day came for him to assume it. Very few people knew his identity, and those that did were sworn to secrecy. Eventually, Kia's skills as a warrior started growing stronger, and he was starting to best men much larger than himself. He started to learn how to use his size to his advantage, and was aided in no small part to the discovery that he was better with spear than sword... and by Vero, a slightly older boy who had been helping him train. The two hit it off, Kia enjoying the other boy's brash nature and sense of humor. The two slowly developed a deep bond, and Kia saw how Vero began to protect him, even as Kia grew more than capable of protecting himself. And even without knowledge of who Kia really was.
Eventually, Kia asked his father to reveal his identity to Vero, as he trusted Vero completely, and his father obliged. Since then, the two have rarely been apart, though the nature of their relationship has remained largely undefined due to their roles. Kia has known well for many years he is expected to marry and produce an heir to take over when he has passed, even if his desire to be in intimate company of others outside of his friend is non-existent.
When Kia's father became ill when he was 19, he suffered for some time before the inevitable was obvious. He made an announcement to his people that the child thought dead 14 years ago was alive and well, and stronger than any ruler Yujleda had ever known, and he would be assuming role of Emperor. A shock to Kiawah's half sister. His father passed that very night, and Kiawah's first act as Emperor was to make Vero his General, to be forever at his side.
