.:Name:. Shiloh King .:Nick Name:. Shy (started as more of a taunt, but she's gotten used to it) .:Affiliation:. The 100, Arker .:Age:. 17 (season 1), 18 (season 3)
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Shiloh has a slight build, and her quiet demeanor makes it pretty easy for her to be overlooked. She always has some degree of hair in her face, even if she tries to pull it back, and she uses it almost as a shield between herself and the world. It’s when she starts actively pushing her hair out of her face that people know she means business. Her eyes constantly seem to be soaking up everything around them. She has a bright smile, although it can be hard to coax out. And she doesn’t have much interest in fashion, so her clothing consists of whatever happens to be on hand. .:Height:. 5’5” .:Portrayed by:. Shelley Hennig

.:Personality:. As her nickname suggests, Shiloh isn’t exactly a social butterfly. She’s certainly kind and even friendly to those who approach her. But she prefers to hang back from the group in favor of engaging people one-on-one. The pressures of her childhood have left her with trouble truly opening up to people. Especially adults, who she is instinctively mistrustful of. But she has an intuitive sense about those around her that helps her empathize with their pain and often causes her to put them before herself. That makes her a good listener and a solid shoulder to lean on. The flipside is Shiloh hates being a burden to other people, and very few can get her to open up about her own demons. Like her guilt over not defending her mother sooner. Ironically those same demons are also what drive her to fight so hard to help the people around her. She doesn’t want anyone else to get hurt like she did. But while she will defend those around her to the death, she rarely sticks up for herself and can come across as a bit of a pushover at times.
Despite being a quiet loner, or perhaps because of it, Shiloh is remarkably intelligent, making her a wise advisor for those willing to listen. The trick lies in getting her to open her mouth. A lack of self-confidence and a strong aversion to the spotlight lead to Shiloh generally keeping her thoughts to herself. She would far rather be scavenging plants than dealing with messy camp politics. But those who can coax her into speaking up will find she has a natural talent for problem solving and operating under pressure that can make her a lifesaver in a crisis. Although her moral compass may lead to butting heads in situations that are less black and white. Shiloh sticks to her guns and will fight fiercely for what she believes is right. But she’s also a realist, and she understands all too well sometimes there are no good choices. Sometimes just living to fight another day has to be victory enough. It’s that very attitude though that reminds her to make the most of any good she finds in life because it might not last.
.:Special Skills:. Shiloh reads anything she can find, soaking up knowledge like a sponge and making her a wealth of useful information. Especially where plants are concerned. Her real talent though lies in strategy and creative thinking. Shiloh has a way of seeing things others don’t, and she can find a path out of just about any situation. Plus she operates remarkably well under pressure. The problem is getting people to listen to her. She’s not really the most outspoken or authoritative, so her voice tends to get drowned out by louder ones with less effective solutions.

.:Birthplace:. Farm Station .:Family:. Samuel King (father, killed by Shiloh), Melissa King (mother, died shortly after Farm Station reached Earth) .:Occupation:. scavenger (dropship), medical apprentice (Arkadia) .:History:. Shiloh was born to a couple on Farm Station that seemed to have it all together. But behind closed doors, things could get pretty tense. Samuel was a popular man who served as first a station representative and then a council member, and while he loved the status it afforded him, he didn’t handle the pressure well. He gradually developed a drinking habit that he kept well hidden. That led to angry outbursts at home and occasionally even hurting his wife or daughter. He was smart enough not to risk his position though, and any injuries Shiloh or her mother sustained could be explained away by various clumsy accidents. Not that anyone would have believed them. Samuel was well liked by his peers, and the idea of the charismatic man being cruel to anyone seemed unthinkable.
Shiloh grew up as a quiet child who hid away in books to avoid drawing her father’s anger. Even at an early age she understood that speaking about what sometimes happened at home was out of the question. The one time she tried it was to a teacher. The woman mentioned it to Shiloh’s father, who smoothly shrugged it off. That night he took his anger out on both Shiloh and her mother. After that, Shiloh kept her mouth shut. But keeping that kind of secret isolated her from her peers, turning her into a loner. She hated being mocked as privileged by other students who had no idea what life with her father was really like. Her mother also slid in and out of depression that sometimes left her with barely the energy to care for herself, let alone give Shiloh the attention the girl needed. What resulted was a bit of a flipped relationship with Shiloh often trying to take care of her mother.
School provided an escape. Shiloh excelled in her classes, both because she enjoyed it and because making her father look good was far safer. Eventually, though, the cracks began to show. When Shiloh was fourteen, Samuel was asked to step down from the council by a fellow member concerned about the amount of stress he was under. The loss of his coveted status wrecked Samuel. His drinking began to escalate after that, as did things at home. The problem finally came to a head on Shiloh’s seventeenth birthday. Something set her father off, and as his rage turned violent, Shiloh became convinced her mother’s life was in very real danger this time. She tried to intervene, but that only turned Samuel’s attention to her. The two scuffled, and Shiloh managed to hit him on the head with something. Her father fell backwards, hitting his head on a table. Shiloh never knew which blow actually killed him.
Shiloh was taken to the Sky Box to stay until she turned eighteen. She probably could have made a strong case for self-defense at her eventual trial, but an investigation of the scene turned up a stash of medicine and plants Melissa had stolen to help herself cope. Guilt-ridden over not defending her mother sooner, Shiloh insisted she was the thief even though the double offense guaranteed she would get floated upon coming of age.
She spent the next several months in prison. Melissa never came to visit due to her own overwhelming guilt. Shiloh just assumed her mother blamed her for not acting sooner. Although the rumor mill conveniently dropped the part about Samuel's death being self-defense, so very few people know what actually happened that night. Not that Shiloh cared. She was mainly just twiddling her thumbs until her execution. And then one day her cell was opened and she was ushered out with the other delinquents to a ship sending them down to the ground. But what initially seemed like a expedited death sentence turned out to be something far more complicated.
