Monty noticed the smile that appeared on Isaiah's face after he told him that he was single, but he wasn't in any position to tease him about it, seeing as he was trying to fight off his own smile at hearing Isaiah's answer to the same question. Monty didn't quite know how to react to this news and so he said the first thing that came to mind "that's interesting" he stopped trying to fight his smile when Isaiah spoke next and all he could do was nod his confirmation. Of course he knew why he was interested, there was only one reason why he would be interested in who he was dating but he didn't know why he was interested in him. Since Isaiah had approached him, Monty had stolen his fork, eaten with his mouth open, teased him about being 'afraid' of germs, crushed his flawless idea of what space was like and thrown cutlery at him, so he was more than a little confused about why the mountain man would be interested in him when there were many other people that he could take the time to get to know, people who actually tried to be polite and weren't offended when somebody tried to steal their food.
"A farmer?" Monty questioned, he wasn't too surprised by the answer seeing as Isaiah had brought up the subject of farming and had seemed to be interested when he'd mentioned that he'd grown up on farm station. "I take it that you like your job?" many of the people that he knew from farm station enjoyed what they did and he assumed that the people in mount weather were the same way and they enjoyed the jobs that they did. "It sounds like you like your job" he continued, looking down at his hands now, he was glad that he was learning more about the man and he was glad that he liked something that Monty knew something about so he could at least understand what he was talking about and he could understand why he enjoyed farming so much, because he knew other people who enjoyed it too.
Monty hoped that revealing that they were all criminals wouldn't scare Isaiah away and he had to admit that he was probably guilty of oversharing at that moment, but the fact that Isaiah hadn't already freaked out about having lunch with a convicted criminal was something that he took as a good sign. When Isaiah asked him what he did to get himself locked up, Monty let out a small laugh "Jasper and I stole some herbs, I forgot to replace what we took, we got caught and that is my very brief unexciting story of how I got us both arrested" he explained, not going into detail about the events that led to him getting himself and Jasper arrested "and I've apologised a thousand times for not replacing the herbs and Jasper still won't forget that I was the one that got us locked up" looking back at it, Monty could see the funny side of things. Now that he wasn't dead or waiting to be executed for a petty crime, he could relax and see that it was actually pretty funny. "You might want to keep it to yourself... That we're criminals, you don't seem to care much but others might freak out a little" he lowered his voice as he spoke this time, he didn't know many of the mountain people well but he thought that they might not like it if they found out that they'd brought convicted criminals into their home.Isaiah Riggs

Interesting? Isaiah wasn't too sure how to take that answer but it didn't remove the smile from his face, and seeing a matching smile on Monty's face on helped him to think it may have been a more positive than negative sort of answer. And there was still some colour in his cheeks but Isaiah didn't think that would fade completely anytime soon. The whole situation could honestly be really funny, from the cake onward nothing that had happened really spoke of getting along, let alone liking each other. Isaiah had stopped trying to look at feelings in a logical way long ago, however, and so all he cared about was the fact that Monty did seem attractive and despite all the things that had happened as they ate lunch, Isaiah had taken notice of quite a few good qualities of Monty's. He guessed he should have also felt lucky that the liking for someone as cute as Monty seemed to be mutual.
"Yeah, a farmer," Isaiah said, chuckling lightly. When Monty asked if he liked his job, Isaiah nodded, smile still on his face. He definitely loved his job, he had managed to find something that he was completely passionate about and he had no idea what his life would be like if he had gotten into something else. Being a chef or restoring books like his parents didn't sound anywhere near as interesting to him. "My friend used to joke that I was married to my job so yeah, I do like it." Isaiah laughed again, meeting Monty's gaze before focusing back on his plate and eating more of his salad. His friends had always loved to joke about Isaiah's love of farming, and well, Isaiah didn't think he could blame them. "If you love your job it isn't work, don't you think?" Chewing on some lettuce, Isaiah forced himself to look back up at Monty. It had definitely sounded like Monty loved engineering.
Monty explained why had been arrested and Isaiah couldn't really do anything but laugh. He was going to executed to stealing some herbs? It seemed like such a silly thing, especially knowing the amount of times Isaiah had caught teenagers, and even adults, trying to steal some of the pot that they grew for medicinal purposes. Stealing small amounts of things in agriculture didn't get you into trouble, the farmers never tended to report anything unless it was big. Food wasn't something they were particularly short on, only the workers to keep it growing and harvested. "Well, you aren't really a criminal," Isaiah said, "Sounds like you were just really bored." Never had Isaiah even thought about smoking but he wasn't going to judge Monty for that. It wasn't like he'd murdered someone. "And I won't tell anyone, don't worry." |

There was something about Isaiah being a farmer that appealed to Monty, maybe it was the fact that he’d grown up among farmers. Maybe the man reminded him of the people back on farm station that he’d grown up with and thought of affectionately and maybe talking to a farmer again made him feel closer to his parents, because he didn’t know if he’d ever get to see them again. He’d been hopeful when they had plans of sending the ark to earth but they’d lost contact with the ark before the grounders had attacked and he had no way of telling if his parents were even still alive. “There’s nothing wrong with being passionate about your work” Monty muttered, he was pretty passionate about his own work. Engineering was something that he loved and he had to agree with Isaiah because whilst he was working, it didn’t really feel like work and he thought himself incredibly lucky that he’d had the opportunity to do something that he loved on the ark, before he’d gotten himself locked up. “Yeah, can it really be called work if you enjoy it that much?” he asked the other man, a smile lighting up his face.
Monty had been nervous about revealing that they were criminals, there was no way to predict how somebody was going to react to that sort of information, what he hadn’t expected was for Isaiah to laugh about it. “It must seem pretty weird to you that somebody would get executed for a small crime like that” he mumbled, noting that somebody who’d grown up on the ark wouldn’t have reacted in the same way to the information that he’d given out. He couldn’t imagine what his life would have been like if he’d grown up in mount weather without ever having to worry about getting executed for a crime that small. “We were extremely bored, it was easy to get bored up there” he agreed and it was his turn to laugh “people could get pretty creative when it came to thinking about the best ways to pass the time” mostly people tried to find ways that didn’t break any rules, but occasionally you had to break the rules and that’s where the risks came in… There was something exciting about the idea that you might get caught, it didn’t become real until you were locked up and told that you’d be executed when you turned eighteen.“Thanks” Monty smiled again when Isaiah told him that he wouldn’t leak their secret to the other people in mount weather, at least he knew that he hadn’t just blown their chance of having somewhere safe to stay. It was pretty draining, constantly worrying if a grounder was going to come along and cut your life short, at least they were safe within the mountain. “Maybe you could show me where you work?” Monty suggested, knowing that it might bring a little bit of comfort to see something that was familiar to him “if that’s allowed, I understand if it’s not possible and it doesn’t have to be right now!” he hadn’t meant to start rambling and worrying about his suggestion, he didn’t know how things in mount weather worked. For all he knew, he was completely out of line for asking and now he probably sounded like an idiot.

I told you on whatsapp I'd write a reply so here it is! (I'm procrastinating studying for that uni exam on Tues XD) Despite the mutter in which the words came, it was nice to hear that confirmation from Monty that there was nothing wrong with being passionate about work. Isaiah didn't need that confirmation, really, but he still liked hearing it. Just as he had liked impressing Monty by using the fork again. Monty seemed to agree with Isaiah on his view on work, how it wasn't really work if it was enjoyable. Isaiah's smile lit up, matching Monty's and he was quite glad to see Monty smiling. It was a cute smile, that matched Monty's cute face. There really was a reason behind why Isaiah had chosen this particular Space Person to talk to. The love for cake, the joy, Isaiah knew the little crush he was getting was silly and very improbable to lead anywhere, despite the fact that the other boy might have possible hinted at holding some sort of similar feelings for Isaiah.
It didn't matter. The conversation they were having, that was what did matter. Isaiah nodded, any hint of a smile gone from his face. "Yeah, it seems really weird, if weird is even the right word" he admitted. "Wouldn't happen here." After a moment, a small grin made its way onto Isaiah's face. He had thought it before, about the fact that teenagers and younger adults did try and steal some of the pot grown in Agriculture. It wasn't uncommon. Isaiah could probably even get some himself, not for himself but for Monty if the guy was ever interested. He didn't say it, for the fact that he didn't quite know if Monty would like that idea since it had been the reason for him becoming a criminal. But it was there as something he could do later. Isaiah was a good guy but he wasn't always the type to follow the rules to a T.
"Kids can get pretty creative here to pass the time, too," Isaiah said, knowing that himself and others had snuck around the Mountain as kids. The teenagers held parties, although it was near impossible for the adults to be completely blind to them. "You'll probably have to resort to creativity again soon enough, once the wonder of the new wears off." And it would be the same for Isaiah. He knew that his way of passing the time for a while was going to involve the newest members of Mount Weather. They were officially the most interesting thing around, and from the conversation so far, Isaiah had an inkling that Monty was one of the most interesting of the group. "We grow pot here," he added in a whispered, a teasing tone to his voice as he leaned forward so only Monty would hear.
Isaiah didn't think anything could make him happier than hearing that Monty wanted to see where he worked. The pride that Isaiah held about agriculture and all the plants grown there, especially the ones in his care, was something that Isaiah didn't hide. He chuckled as Monty rambled, obviously unsure if it would be possible or not. "Hey, don't worry, it's fine and I'd love to show you sometime." Isaiah felt the pull to reach over and place his hand on Monty's arm in small calming gesture but didn't actually do that, unsure that it would be taken as such. "Just tell me whenever you want to come to agriculture. If you want, we could go after we finish eating. Doesn't matter too much when." He shrugged with a smile, although a warmth had come into his cheeks. The idea of showing Monty around his favourite place had him beginning to feel shy again. |

Monty knew that Mount Weather was a completely different place than where he’d grown up and because of that, they had a completely different set of rules and a completely different way of enforcing them. He was pleased to hear that they dealt with things differently, the ark was not a good place to live, not in his opinion and he’d hate for Mount Weather to just be a copy of the place where he grew up. “That’s good to hear” Monty answered Isaiah, unable to stop himself from smiling. Maybe Mount Weather could become their home, so far he liked what he’d seen and so had his friends from what he’d seen so far. “I guess you don’t need to do that down here” Mount Weather obviously had more resources available to them, resources that the ark lacked, but the mountain people seemed to be living quite happily, comfortably without any signs of fear and that was reassuring for Monty to see. The last thing he wanted was for himself or any of his friends to end up locked up if they stayed and they had no reason to leave. It was safe from the grounders in Mount Weather and he knew that some of the delinquents might resort back to a life of petty crime while they stayed there.“Boredom can drive any kid to do things that they wouldn’t usually think of doing” he chuckled, remembering all the things that he used to do to pass the time up on the ark, usually Jasper played a part in his plans but sometimes he was forced to entertain himself. Monty didn’t doubt that what Isaiah said was true, eventually he’d get used to Mount Weather and there would be nothing more to explore and then the boredom would return, but he doubted that he’d get bored any time soon. There was just too much to explore and learn about Mount Weather and the people there. “Eh, I’m hoping I’ll have more friends by then to keep me out of trouble… Or help me get into it” he told Isaiah, laughing slightly as he thought about all the possibilities, there had to be so much to do in the mountain, it was so big, he just knew that he’d get lost at least a million times before he memorised his way around.
When Isaiah mentioned that they grew pot down there, Monty had to pause for a second to determine whether or not the man was joking but when he saw that he was being serious, his smile widened. He’d have to tell Jasper about this news when he got the chance, he was tempted to excuse himself to run and find his friend at that very moment, but he couldn’t see Jasper anywhere and he didn’t even know where to start looking, so he stayed. “You do?” Monty whispered back, ignoring the teasing tone in his voice as he leant forward slightly so that nobody could overhear their conversation. That could definitely aid them in passing the time if things ever became boring, it definitely helped the time to pass quickly while they were up on the ark.Monty was elated to hear that Isaiah would show him where he worked, seeing something that was somewhat familiar would no doubt offer him some reassurance. “Thank you!” he thanked Isaiah, knowing even as he heard the words come from his mouth that he sounded over eager. He didn’t really care though, he was excited to see where they grew their food and to see how different the layout was to the one they had up in farm station. He expected it to be pretty similar. “Really?! That soon?!” Monty exclaimed when Isaiah suggested that they could go after they’d finished eating. He was expecting it to be sometime in the distant future, not right at that moment, but he wasn’t going to object.Isaiah Riggs

So tired. This should be amazing because of that! XD
Isaiah simply nodded in agreement when Monty said they didn't need to execute any criminals in Mount Weather. It was the truth and Isaiah was completely glad for it. He couldn't count the amount of times he would have done something that ws technically illegal in Mount Weather just as a child, let alone in his teenage years and even into his adulthood. Isaiah had only yesterday taken an orange off a tree to eat as a snack, something that the farmers technically weren't supposed to do but all of them did anyway every so often. Things just weren't overly strict down in Mount Weather and it sounded like it had been quite obviously the opposite up in space. Isaiah didn't like hearing that, wanting to keep his more positive views on the idea of living in space. Apart from in books, Isaiah hadn't even seen the stars before. To live amungst them, it sounded like a total dream come true to him. A magical thing.
And yeah, Isaiah knew he was romanticising the whole idea. There wasn't much else for him to do really but overthink anything new around, Mount Weather was that boring. Isaiah wasn't lying when telling that to Monty. "Definitely," Isaiah agreed, grinning at Monty and noticing the look he had in his eyes, like he was doing what Isaiah had been doing: remembering all the creative things he had done in his boredom. Isaiah's grin didn't fade as Monty spoke again, it only brightened more, approving of the playful attitude the guy he was speaking with had. "Friends are supposed to help you get into trouble, from my experience at least." Grey was a definite example of a friend who had helped Isaiah get into more trouble than he would have alone. That was why she was his best friend. Hopefully Monty would find multiple Grey's, for the sake of his sanity when the boredom hit.
It was easy to see that Isaiah had done the right thing by mentioning that they grew pot. Monty's attention seemed to pin-point in that moment and he mirrored Isaiah in leaning forward and keeping his voice low as to avoid anyne overhearing them. It wasn't that Isaiah was overly worried about being overheard, he doubted anyone listening in would hear it as anything but a joke. However, it was a lot more fun to talk about it this way, especially knowing just how serious Isaiah was. "Really." Isaiah decided to keep it at that, Monty could ask more if he wanted to--then or another time. He didn't, however, lean back in his seat again after speaking. His eyes explored Monty's face from this new angle instead, from the colour of his eyes to the line of his jaw, because he could. He tried not to make it to obvious.
Having that closer angle was a good thing when Monty got excited about going to see agriculture. It was an amazing sight, to see the dimples crease in his cheeks and the spark of life in his eyes. Isaiah felt lucky to see the excitement and, well, excited over the fact that Monty was reacting as he was! "No problem at all!" He wasn't actually one hundred percent sure if he was technically allowed to be taking any of the Space People up to agriculture but he couldn't be bothered to care about that at this point. Monty was harmless, as Isaiah had found out, and nothing bad would come from Isaiah showing him plants. "Finish your chocolate cake," Isaiah started, chuckling lightly, "And we can go as soon as your done. You sound like you want to!" At that, Isaiah stabbed his fork through some more salad, just as eager as Monty sounded for the tour to happen sooner rather than later.

"I guess I'll just have to make more friends here" Monty mentioned casually, deciding that he'd quite like to get to know Isaiah better once they parted ways after their trip to agriculture. Maybe he could even show him how they had fun in the mountain when boredom threatened to get the best of them. "Are they even your friends if they don't drag you into trouble with them?" he asked, unable to hide his smile as he recalled just how many times he'd been dragged into trouble- and dragged others into some rather sticky situations. He knew that if he and Isaiah became friends they'd probably wind up in their fair share of trouble, it was inevitable- a hazard of befriending him and by extension, Jasper. "You not a stickler for the rules then? At least you sound fun" there was a light, teasing tone to his voice- he was keen to keep things light now, maybe in an effort to redeem himself for his earlier rude behaviour.
Pursing his lips as he thought over the other mans words, he grinned "I mean... That'd be pretty fun to check out, if you wanted to" he suggested, keeping his voice low as he spoke. He didn't mean right that instant, but maybe in future if they wanted to have a little fun, he definitely had a few friends who'd be interested if Isaiah declined the offer. "You only live once, right?" and who wanted to waste time playing it safe when you could be enjoying whatever time you had. Sure, he'd landed himself in lockup the last time he'd tried stealing some pot, but this time he had the assurance that that wouldn't happen if he happened to wind up with some in his possession.
Monty suddenly seemed to realise how close they were to each other, both leaning in to keep their voices low and drew back quickly so that he was sitting once again in his own seat, the space between himself and Isaiah once again an appropriate amount. "Well in that case-" he picked up his fork once again, spearing the last few pieces of cake and shovelling them into his mouth in his eagerness to be taken on the grand tour of the place Isaiah seemed so passionate about. Once he'd swallowed the last of his cake, he got to his feet before realising that his new companion might still be eating "sorry, are you still eating? We can wait until you've finished" he muttered, lowering himself back down into his seat. Maybe he was eager to see what Isaiah spent his days doing, maybe he was homesick or maybe it was a mixture of both but one thing was for sure, he didn't want to stay seated a moment longer than he had to be.
