Bottom line, John Murphy only counts on one person: John Murphy. He's been burned one too many times and has major trust issues as a result. He might have done a lot of bad things but not without cause. Murphy's a survivor and he will do whatever it takes to stay alive, especially here on Earth. Murphy has no friends, or at least, no one he can count on, though that doesn't mean that down the road, he might actually make a friend or two, or maybe something even more. He's not a bad guy, despite the reputation that follows him, and he will protect those he cares about. It just takes awhile to break through that shell.
