Callie felt rather blessed to be able to say that she had a best friend. A true friend. Someone she could share everything with. But it was so much more than that. From the day they met, Callie had wanted to get to know Doctor Griffin, on a professional level of course, but that soon transformed into what Callie viewed as a valuable friendship. Callie felt truly lucky to now have two people in her life that she cared deeply about. She had briefly dated Marcus Kane back when joining the guards program, but their careers pulled them apart. And now, they had really reconciled and committed to each other again. They were both a bit older, both still ambitious career wise, but more settled as well. More, mature. Perhaps that was the best word for it. Tonight however, She had invited Abby over for the evening, just to spend some time together. Though was waiting until the last moment, knowing that her work as a doctor could pull her away at any given time. So when she heard the knock at the door, a smile formed on her lips as she went to answers, the expression only brightening when she saw Abby on the other side. "Abs," she greeted happily, stepping aside so that she could enter. Once in, she closed the door behind her and leaned in for a hug. With their work, they seldom found these kinds of evenings where they could just relax and spend some much needed time together, away from all the politics and work related intensity. Friends. They come and go throughout a person's life. Some friendships last a lifetime, while others slowly fade over time until they are no more. These days, it was extremely rare to find that friend or friends who stayed by your side no matter the circumstances. Who stayed with you not only during the good times, but also when things got hard. When situations become difficult, a lot of people tend to go running in the other direction, leaving the person who was supposed to be their friend to deal with the hard stuff alone. Sometimes, they come back, but other times, they are never heard from again. Not all people are like that though. There are those rare few who always stay by your side, who always have your back no matter how hard things get. Those are the people you need to hang on to, because they are your true friends. Abby was one of the fortunate few to have a friend like that. Someone who was always looking out for her and who genuinely cared about her. Someone with whom she could trust and confide in. From the moment she had first been introduced to Callie Cartwig, she had known that this woman would be a very good friend of hers. At the time, she hadn't been sure how she knew that, but she had had this feeling that it would be so and she had been correct. They had such a high and mutual respect for each other that had quickly developed into a strong and everlasting friendship. Callie was one of those people that a person could develop a strong likeness for right away. When they had first met, she had been drawn to the other woman. Not only because she was a woman, but also her kind and respectful personality. Callie just got her. She understood her in a way that no one else ever has. Doctor Griffin was proud to say that she had a best friend. A true friend. And Abby felt extremely blessed to have someone that she deeply cared about besides her husband and daughter. At this point, she was practically her family. The sister that she had never had growing up and she didn't intend on ever letting her go.

Callie had invited her over to her place to hangout later that evening and she had graciously accepted, although she didn't know how long she would be working this evening. Working as a doctor had its perks. For one, she was able to help people, save lives, and make a difference. Abby loved her job and she was extremely good at it too, which was just another perk. Seeing the smiles on her patients faces and the happiness on the parents' faces as they thanked her for helping and healing their child never failed to make her day. Knowing that her patients were happy and that she was the cause of it was what made her job worthwhile. The only downfall was that she worked extremely long hours. Her job was very demanding and unpredictable. Being a doctor was no easy job. Sometimes she worked all day and even all night nonstop, and even when she had off time, she could be called back in at a moment's notice. Doing the things she did though made all those long hours worthwhile, even if it did cut into her social time a majority of the time. There was nothing more important to her than saving lives, and Abby wasn't going to complain.

After yet another long shift, Doctor Griffin was finally off for the rest of the evening, and after going home and pulling on a change of clothes, she quickly made her way over to where Callie was staying in order to spend some time with her best friend. Now that she was off, she was looking forward to a nice night with just the two of them, staying in and just spending some time together. Just talking about things. Lately, Abby noticed that her friend was behaving a bit differently. She seemed to be extremely happy about something, or perhaps someone. She had her theories, but she decided that tonight she would go ahead and ask the other woman herself.

Finally, she reached her destination and quickly lifted her fist and gave the door a light knock. Footsteps quickly made their way towards the door and the door was pulled open a moment later to reveal Callie standing on the other side. A smile quickly spread across Abby's lips as her eyes landed on the other woman and she was overcome by a feeling of happiness at seeing her friend. "Callie," she greeted back in turn before stepping past the doorway and into the room after the other woman moved aside to let her in. The door was quickly shut behind her and then her friend was leaning in for a hug, and she immediately leaned in to return the hug before pulling away a moment later. It was really nice to see her and be able to spend some time together outside of politics and work. Abby desperately needed a stress free evening where she could just relax and enjoy herself. "Of course, I wouldn't miss it. I desperately needed this," she replied with a chuckle as she stepped further into the room before turning to look at her once more. "So, how have you been?" Abby asked, genuinely curious to know how she was doing.
