As a child, Murphy was a decent enoug person, often putting others before himself and helping his parents when they needed him. However, after his father was floated and his mother committed suicide, Murphy withdrew into himself and his personality darkened. Murphy's most defining characteristic is his temper and how quick he is to anger. This often causes him to make rash decisions and do things he regrets later. He will not hesitate to get into a fight but that stems from past experiences where he had to learn to hold his own against everyone else. Murphy will tend to use force rather than actually think his actions through, and will defy authority if he thinks he can get away with it. It's not unlike him to beat the hell out of someone if they piss him off enough.
He does what he wants, when he wants, and this has come back to bite him. His aggressive behavior, stubbornness and the fact that he is easily irritable often causes him to be at odds with other people. He will also not hesitate to enact revenge if he feels he has been wronged. Murphy enjoys power, although he is more of a follower than a leader, and will stick with the winning side if it means his survival. In the beginning especially he would exert his power over those he saw as weaker than him. He enjoyed seeing them squirm and terrorizing those who couldn't really fight back. Murphy has a sadistic side and that darkness reared its ugly head multiple times when they first landed on earth. This and his tendency towards acts of violence led to people fearing him initially and it took awhile before he was able to gain the trust of others (although it is only a few at this point). He regrets nothing, at least, that's the act that he puts on around everyone he encounters, but it's a lie. There are definitely things he regrets having done but the past is the past and there's nothing he can do to change it.
Despite his anger issues and violent nature, Murphy is not an unkind person. He has done unspeakable things, going as far as murdering people for the sake of revenge, but he revealed a more caring side of his personality when members of their group fell sick due to hemorrhagic fever and he stepped in without being asked to help care for them. Murphy is willing to risk his life to save others and has done so without hesitation. He does not completely lack empathy but he has been hurt by others enough that it takes a great deal for him to open up to someone.
After being locked up in the Sky Box for several years, with no company but himself, Murphy fears being alone and ultimately fears dying alone. Time and time again, everyone he thought were his friends betrayed him or left him to die. This makes him extremely cautious when it comes to trusting anyone, especially since that trust has been betrayed so many times. He has yet to find a place he feels he truly belongs, which has led to him being more of an outsider in the group. He feels like an outcast and it reflects in his attitude towards others. Ultimately, Murphy is a survivor. He will do whatever he has to do in order to survive. In his mind, the only person he can really count on is himself.
.:Special Skills:. Although no expert, he is good with weapons, especially knives. He can also handle himself in a fight but all he uses basic street knowledge and can be bested in a fight with someone more experienced. He will fight dirty if it means him winning. He has a high pain tolerance and is extremely resilient, as proven when he was tortured and still managed to survive. Murphy's strongest skill is the ability to survive, no matter what the circumstances.

.:History:.
Jonathan Murphy had a decent enough childhood when growing up on the Ark in Factory Station and was always willing to help his parents with whatever they needed. He did his duties. Went to school, started to work once he was old enough, and for the most part kept to himself. He never had a great deal of friends growing up but he had a handle of others he would hang out with on occasion (often getting into mischief). Murphy was a stubborn child and had a hot temper, plus he had a bad habit of sneaking out when he thought he could get away with it and generally disobeying his parents. It wasn't that he was trying to hurt them, but the thrill of doing something against the rules was always something that tempted him. His parents were loving and caring, always putting his needs above their own. However, this was what would lead to his father's death. When Murphy was around ten, he came down with a severe case of the flu and his father stole rationed medicine to try and help. It turned out that the medicine wouldn't have made a difference in helping Murphy get better and when his father was caught, the Chancellor floated him. Murphy never forgave himself for this and it is a dark part in his past that continues to haunt him to this day.
Murphy's life became a downward spiral into darkness and despair after his father's death. His mother began to drink heavily, leaving Murphy to fend for himself. There were times when he had to scrounge for food, sometimes going for prolonged periods without nourishment because his mother was too drunk to take care of him. He did what he could to take care of his mother, even when she became violent towards him due to her drinking, but he would try and be as patient as he could (and even then, she sometimes made it extremely hard). The breaking point for Murphy was the moment when his mother told him that she blamed him for his father's death, that he was the one who killed him. Over and over, especially when she was extremely drunk, those words would come out of her mouth and cut into him. When he was 13, Murphy found her dead in a pool of her own vomit. It didn't take long for him to be put into the system to be adopted by a foster family and that was when the trouble really started.
He became defiant, balking against authority, and did everything he can to remain independent, even going so far as to make life hell for the families who attempt to foster him. He wasn't above stealing or injuring those who got in his way in order for him to survive. He narrowly escaped being arrested on multiple occasions. The thrill of breaking the law kept him moving and whenever a fight broke out, more often than not, Murphy was the one who started it. Being angry helped stop him from breaking down, and it was a release for him. Ultimately, his actions led to him being arrested (since he was under 18 and couldn't be executed) and locked up in the Sky Box for several years, with no one but himself to keep him company within his cell. It wasn't until the Chancellor decided to send 100 of the prisoners down to Earth that Murphy was around other people his own age for a prolonged period of time. No one here knew him on Earth and it was his chance to finally have the freedom to live how he chose, not how someone else wanted him to live. Of course, he had no idea what was in store for him or the rest of the group.
