Once, Marcus Kane had been a pillar of predictability. His normal appearance was neat and clean, even in these times of limited supplies. Marcus Kane would never appear anything but in full control of himself, and everything from his clothing to his hair proved that. Currently however, he was a widower of three months, and his young son was taking more then Marcus knew how to give. He didn't know how to be a father. His own had never really been apart of his life. He had been raised by a mother who had put herself so deeply into her faith after his father left them, that it was hard not to think of one without the other. It had caused him to rebel slightly, and turn to logic over faith. He had executed his own father, and now he was going to be a single father, and the irony of it was never far from his mind.
There was a knock on the door, and Marcus moved toward it. His hair was slightly on end from one too many times of him running his hand through it in stress. He had not shaven in a few days, and his cheeks were darkened from his lack of effort. He had not been able to give his work his all, and he was beginning to think that his career was over; that he could not be both a father and a chancellor. If he had to pick, he would be a father; but he really wanted both. His career had defined him until he became a father and the transition had not been easy. Opening the door he looked at @callie, who was perfectly dressed and neat as always and he felt even more a failure then before; but he never let it show. "Yes?" He greeted, not sure if she was here because he was needed or because he had (once again) forgotten something he was supposed to do. Either way, he wasn't sure he could handle Callie being the one to tell him. He had so much respect for the woman, and for her to see him fall from grace wasn't easy on a man with so much pride.
