i'm wide awake after the riot this demonstration of our anguish this empty laughter has no reason "Hey. You ready to go? We're on food duty."
Jasper shifted the gun awkwardly around his body, his finger resting alongside the length of the gun, rather than on the trigger. His eyes glanced almost anxiously around, and it was clear he was rather nervous about slipping out of the safety of the camp. But food and water needed to be gathered, and at least he wasn't going alone. Monty would hang back and help guard, and Jasper would head out to college what he could -- everyone clearly knew he was the best person, judging by the reason he got caught. He shifted on his feet, glancing at Bellamy.
"We should really get going. I think I heard someone say there were berries not too far from here, although I don't know what kind," or where, he wanted to add, feeling rather stupid for even suggesting something. His anxious energy seemed to fill up the tent, and it was almost a nervous habit now. Yes, the silly, happy Jasper was still there, but it was almost suffocated by the nervous, jumpy Jasper that many people saw now. His defenses seemed to diminish when he was in private, behind the closed zippers of tents, and when he was alone, or in the company of those he trusted.
"Can we just... get this done and over with?" He sounded ready to just retire already. This was too much work. Why him? Why not anyone else? Why did they have to be the ones on Earth? like a bottle of your favorite poison we are the last call and we're so pathetic

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was on food duty. Not the hunting kind, but the kind that was to search the area and see what else they could find. They couldn't survive solely on meat. One group of people found apples the other day. Hopefully there would be more fruits available along with other things. His current collection group consisted only of himself and Jasper. And speaking of the guy, he came in, asking if he was ready to go. Bellamy could easily see how nervous and unsettled Jasper was.
He supposed he couldn't blame him, considering the threat of Grounders and what the guy had already been through. It was after all, him getting speared that was the first indication that they weren't alone in this place. Hell of a way to find out. Bellamy proceeded to put his shoes on and gather water for the small trip. It wasn't going to be long, and they should be back before dark. But still. Best to be prepared because if there was one thing he had learned in this place . . . it was that anything was possible.
"You look like you're gonna piss yourself," he told him, a clear taunt in his voice but it wasn't said with a cruelty. Bellamy was beyond that . . . mostly. He knew now that he would do whatever it took to protect their people. Bellamy rose to his feet, strapping the gun around him and tucking a dagger away as well. They could never be too careful. "We'll collect what we can and test them out when we get back to camp. Don't eat anything," he warned him. If there was poison in any of it, at least it could be treated here.
Not when they were at a significant difference. But, if there were indeed berries . . . at least that would be something. Bellamy saw the state of Jasper and knew he should offer some words of encouragement . . . perhaps. "You sure you're ready to go?" So much for comfort. "I need you to be straight, Jasper." He knew Jasper was more than capable. He was a good shot too. "So if you're not, stay here. If you are, then follow me," Bellamy said as he exited the tent, fairly certain that Jasper would indeed follow.

i'm wide awake after the riot this demonstration of our anguish this empty laughter has no reason Jasper's face contorted at Bellamy, a scowl crossing his soft features as he watched his friend get himself ready, "I'm fine, thanks. You don't have to baby sit me." Sure, he was feeling rather anxious and a little nervous to be going out beyond the walls, but he had to get over it sooner or later, right? He gave a look at Bellamy as the slightly older male headed out. Jasper was right on his heels, albeit slightly jumpy and more nervous than anything. But he battled those feels and let them be buried deep down into his chest. He took a breath and stepped out of the tent, his eyes dragging alongside the ground before he looked up.
"And like I'd eat anything I find on this planet outside of these makeshift walls before I get back here," Jasper pointed out, huffing a little. He was really, really trying to allow the happy demeanor to resurface, to spread through his personality again. The camp was such a damper without his silliness, and he hated it. Then again, sometimes the camp was torn between who followed who, and what everyone should do. But somehow, everything evened out. Maybe everything would even out with Jasper -- only time would allow that to happen, though. He shifted on his feet and started towards the exit, glancing over to Bellamy, allowing him to lead. While, sure, Jasper could be a leader, he preferred to be a follower.
At least a follower that could shoot anything that moved, if he needed to.
"Can we get this done and over with, Bellamy? The sooner we do it, the sooner we can get back and... go about our safe business." like a bottle of your favorite poison we are the last call and we're so pathetic

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy listened to Jasper speak of how he didn't have to babysit him. "I have no intention of babysitting you. But every intention of making sure we get back alive, and preferably, uninjured." Which, unfortunately, wasn't always the case with these excursions. He heard ore than saw Jasper follow him out of the tent, assuring him that he wouldn't eat anything he found out there. "Good," Bellamy confirmed, though he didn't entirely underestimate Jasper's intelligence. Him and Monty had quite extensive knowledge about chemicals and plants . . . considering what had gotten them arrested in the first place. Jasper expressed his urge to get this over and done with, so that they could return to the safety of the camp they had build.
"Our business is never safe," he pointed out bluntly. He wasn't trying to intill further fear in Jasper; but it was just the brutal truth of this world. They were never ever truly safe. "You have a water pack?" He asked, wanting to make sure. "Relax. We'll be gone for a couple hours at the most. Before dark when the ghosts and goblins come out," he stated tauntingly. Really, it was just fun to tease the guy. And was of course Bellamy's way of showing affection since he didn't exactly express a sense of humor unless it came out in teases and taunts . . . such as these ones. As they reached the gate, Bellamy gave a nod and it was opened for him by those standing watch, as he exited the camp, waiting for Jasper so that they could walk alongside each other. Bellamy didn't intend to let the guy out of his sight; his protectiveness made it impossible to just send him off somewhere on his own where Bellamy couldn't keep an eye on him.

i'm wide awake after the riot this demonstration of our anguish this empty laughter has no reason Jasper couldn't help but narrow his eyes slightly at Bellamy, but decided to ignore saying something snappy. There was plenty to say, but he didn't need to. His look alone could possibly kill, and thankfully, they actually couldn't. Jasper shifted anxiously on his feet before he let himself exit through the wall, giving a rather half-nervous nod towards one of the two on the guard today. It didn't take long for him to reach Bellamy and the two started into the forest. Jasper's knuckles were white in nerves, but he kept his head cool, his goggles plastered upon his head. At least he was here. At least he was alive.
At least I'm here. At least I'm alive. It will only take a few hours... at the most, right? I can do it. Gotta be brave. Got to make sure I prove everyone wrong. He was quietly telling himself a mantra, walking alongside Bellamy. He didn't have anything he wanted to talk about, or hell, he didn't want to really talk. He just wanted to get this over with, and ignore the fact that he was feeling like he was being treated like a child.
If anything, Jasper was a young adult -- a teenager -- who could easily take care of himself. And it was proven that he could do exactly that, and save the world all wrapped in one. He cracked his neck gently as they walked, almost on the lookout for anything that moved -- okay, so he was a little trigger happy, but he wasn't entirely trigger happy.
"The sooner we can go back, the happier I'll be," he finally mumbled, not entirely sure of his confidence, "and the sooner you can go back to pretending you hate me. Right?" like a bottle of your favorite poison we are the last call and we're so pathetic

whatever THE HELL WE WANT The second they stepped outside the gate, Bellamy was on full alert. He was incredibly aware of their surroundings, of any ruslting, movements, sounds around them -- apart from their own of course. It was just the normal state to be in when leaving the safety of their gates. If it wasn't Grounders, it was Reapers, and if not them, then some random creature that lurked about. Jasper stated that the sooner they could return, the happier he would be. Happiness. It almost seemed like an unachievable state down here. Earth gave him an opportunity to be reunited and be with Octavia . . . but he wondered if the day would come where they could stop surviving and start living.
Jasper's next words didn't cause Bellamy to really look at him but he did respond to them. "I don't have to pretend to hate anyone," he told him simply. Bellamy wasn't overly considerate of other people's feelings when he said something blunt. It was part of his outspoken nature he supposed. One that often deemed him to be an ass. "If I hate someone, they know it," he continued on. He then slightly turned his head to glance at Jasper to see what the state of his food collecting partner was. After a few moments, he gaze returned to the path ahead of him. "Besides, what makes it seem like I hate you?" He inquired.

i'm wide awake after the riot this demonstration of our anguish this empty laughter has no reason Jasper couldn’t help but simply shrug his broad shoulders at Bellamy as they walked, his eyes taking in everything around them. He looked both through the gaps between the tree trunks, as well as the ground underfoot. He knew, somewhere along the line, that the grounders were watching them from behind trees and in the branches, and that thought alone made him feel jumpy, nervous; he was honestly a nervous wreck. He was trying so hard to not let it be known, though, and he glanced from the look out he was doing as they walked to Bellamy. He knew the words his older friend was saying was true, and Jasper forced himself to give a nervous laugh as they walked.
“No reason, sorry. I’m just nervous – it’s coming out in the wrong outlet,” he pointed out, trying to force himself to smile. He knew that being nervous would only result in a bad reaction if they had to do more than just get the food they were on patrol for, and the last thing Jasper wanted to do was be trigger happy. Happy thoughts, he told himself, forcing himself to take a deep breath in, and then a slow breath out as he struggled to relax his shoulders. At least he wasn’t alone, was the thought that constantly paraded around in his head. At least he wasn’t fucking alone. That would make this so much worse, in such a little time. He was at least thankful for that.
“I think that’s one of the things I like about you, Bellamy,” Jasper finally broke the silence that was starting to make him feel like grounders were watching their every move. His voice wasn’t loud that it echoed through the hollow spaces of the trees, but it was enough to let Bellamy hear him as he spoke. “You say what you want, and aren’t afraid of any of the repercussions. And you’re almost a natural leader. I feel like I’m so dense compared to you – I don’t know, I guess it’s just a personal peeve, or something.” like a bottle of your favorite poison we are the last call and we're so pathetic

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Jasper apologized and admitted that he was nervous. It was understandable. This place wasn't exactly safe, but it was also why no one would venture outside the camp alone. Bellamy remained silent as Jasper continued speaking, saying that it was one of the things he liked about him. Curiosity peaked as Bellamy turned to glance at Jasper as they walked on. He praised him for his natural ability to lead. It did mean something to Bellamy, though he showed no sign of it.
He knew full well that he had not exactly been perceived as such when they first arrived, but much had changed since then. And the fact that those in their camp saw him as such a leader -- alongside Clarke -- and dare he say, trusted him, well, it did mean quite a bit to the co leader. He already knew full well that he would place anyone in the camp above himself. But again, articulating such things was not Bellamy's strong suit. There was one thing that was quite easy to say however.
"You're not dense, Jasper," he told him with certainty. Bellamy did not flatter for the sake of it, nor praise when it was undeserved. He said what he did, because he meant it. "When, or if, the time ever comes and you have to step up, I know that you have it in you." Jasper had his own strengths, and Bellamy didn't believe that anyone in the camp was weak. They all contributed in some way or another and Jasper was certainly no exception to this.
"You did so when Octavia was in danger." A clear example that he, like Bellamy, would do whatever he could to protect someone. That quality in itself displayed leadership, even if it wasn't in an obvious a sense as Bellamy and Clarke's position in the camp. Besides, Bellamy would never be able to fully express just how grateful he was to Jasper for saving Octavia. "You're strong," he told him confidently, knowing that about Jasper quite well. "Don't let anything or anyone make you think otherwise." Not even the Grounders. And he hoped his words would allow him to not feel so nervous now. He wanted to give his friend confidence, even if it was just in himself for starters.
