.:Nick Name:. Heda - The Commander
.:Affiliation:. The Twelve Clans || The Coalition
.:Age:. Twenty-One
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. The Commander strives to be many things, but when it comes to her appearance it can be described in one word; intimidating. From the daggers on her hips to the dark a hostile paint around her eyes, Lexa is the embodiment of her people’s culture. You will rarely see her fair complexion under the war paint she wears, just as you will rarely see her long and soft brown hair fall around her face. This is intentional—so few people see the girl under the commander. After so many years of being challenged and fighting for her place as commander, Lexa has been scarred and maimed—she has fought so hard that her body is that of a warrior. It is strong, lean and designed to be a weapon that moves with the force of an axe and the fluidity of an arrow.
Lexa may seem mousey and unintimidating on her own, but as Heda she is everything a nightblood must be. Strong; fierce and... well, intimidating.
.:Height:. 5'10
.:Portrayed by:. Alycia Debnam Carey

.:Personality:. The Commander’s personality has so many levels, but like most commanders she grew up far too fast and felt far too much raw emotion and responsibility in her short life. The spirits of all those who came before her push her forcefully to protect her people and to make all her choices with her head. She has been taught to focus her training and do everything for the good of her people—and that is what she does. Everything; for the good of her people and the sake of her image. A commander must be strong and willing to make tough choices that will be criticised by all those who expect this of her. You could say that Lexa has been hardened by this... responsibility. Her barriers are thick and made of Polis walls—where she has felt loss, regret and bitter acceptance.
Through pain and pressure, Heda has become the closed off and harsh woman she is today. She is not the strongest commander. She values the life of her people more than tradition, which of course threatens her every move. Lexa is perceived as weak, and though she has good intentions it seems all she ever makes are mistakes that threaten her image and security. She’ll be damned if her position or choices are used against her. After suffering the loss of her lover, Costia, Lexa’s shield against those who questioned her became much harder to shatter. All of this... pressure has created the stone who stands now in the heart of Polis.
She is stubborn and bitterly fights away emotions that cloud her judgement—leading to poor choices, cracks in her plans and a fragile reputation she struggles to pull together.
.:Special Skills:. Lexa has the voice and aura of a commander. One of her many skills is the ability to communicate clearly and with assertiveness. This makes her a charismatic leader and one that is followed without much protest, even when her orders do not directly coalign with their traditions. Of course, she is also trained as a warrior. She is a nightblood warrior, to be exact. She is a worthy battle opponent and not to be seen as physically weak. Because of her tender age, some will underestimate her, especially with her more pacifistic and political reputation.

.:Birthplace:. TonDC
.:Family:. Lexa was young when she was taken from her family and raised in Polis. Her black blood gave her a new family of brothers and sisters with whom she was raised. Later in life, she became the second of Anya, the leader of the clan she was born into. Lexa’s family is not biological, but instead consists of her predecessors; her mentors and the twelve clans she is sworn to protect and lead. Those who led before her are within her. This is the only family she sees.
.:Occupation:. Heda, Commander of the Twelve Clans
.:History:.When Lexa was born, she was chosen by the spirits of the commanders before her. Their blood ran through her veins which made her one of the very few nightbloods of her time. She was taken from TonDC to Polis, where she was raised as a warrior. She was taught the ways of her people and the importance of upholding tradition. As a child, she grew up very quickly. Children like her rarely had the luxury of a soft upbringing. She had a taste for combat and was quickly considered one of the most promising among her brothers and sisters. It was when she was eleven years old that she was sent to TonDC to become the second of their chief Anya. They had a strong bond, and through this apprenticeship she learned what it took to command.
They fought against Azgeda frequently; as Trikru and Azgeda were constantly at war. Lexa gained a reputation as a bringer of death, as she was a strong and capable warrior that rose above the rest—even her mentor. Azgeda knew of her and targeted her on more than one occasion, as it was always rumored that Lexa would become the next commander.
During this time, she fought alongside a warrior named Costia. They were young when they met, and those few years were so critical. Lexa had always learned that to feel was weakness, but she never truly understood the weight of that lesson as she had never felt for anyone before. She cared for Anya, as a daughter would care of a mother—or an older sister, but the way she felt for Costia was different. She admired her strength, her beauty, and quite frankly everything about her. When she was fifteen she and Costia became an inseparable pair. They were partners... there were no words for it—but everyone could see it.
When Lexa became commander she was seventeen and ignorant. She took Costia to Polis with her where she thought she could lead the life of a love struck teen and a Heda all at once. This wasn’t the case... Costia was kidnapped, tortured mercilessly and decapitated... the body was sent to Lexa as an act of war. The young commander was devastated, and for so long she let rage control her. If she did not have experienced counsel to get her through the troubling emotions, there would have been an even greater war. Instead, Lexa was stuck in a am of politics, unable to avenge her lover... but over time, she grew harder. She learned how to cope with the loss and discard it; cover it up with walls of stone where she would never need to see it again as more than weakness. A burden that held her back.
Time went by like this. Moves and counter moves were made as Lexa fought to end the wars that destroyed her people. They had the mountain to worry about and it was her target. The impossible goal; the ledgedary mountain which no Heda could ever destroy... for a time she thought that bringing the clans together would make them a stronger army, but the mountain knew. The mountain men botched all her plans and attempts at uniting these clans... And then the Skaikru landed near her home village.
This... was the beginning of it all. Her true purpose and chapter as commander and the beginning of the legacy she wanted to lead. Liberation of her people; striking off the chains the mountain bound them with and becoming united as the twelve clans. Unity, and for the first time in all of history, peace at the cost of the mountain’s blood. Of course... it did not happen this way. The Skaikru and TonDC were at war with one another, when the mountain intervened. So many of her people were killed; warriors and even children... Jus Drein Jus Daun. Before they could even think of an allegiance with the Sky People, blood needed to be spilled in return for the innocent lives lost.
When she met Clarke—the face of the sky people, she didn’t think that she had the strength to honor such an alliance, but she proved to be a worthy leader. By giving them the blood they were owed, Clarke forced an alliance that at the time was thought to be unbreakable. They had the ability to turn the monsters created by the mountain back into the men they once were, while her people had the intel and technology needed to breach the fortress. Lexa had the army. Together, they would tear the mountain down.
As they planned and worked together, Lexa became... attached to Clarke in a way that she hadn’t in a long time. There was more than a physical attraction to her. Lexa was more attracted to her strength and abilities as a leader. Together... they did everything together, and after some time it was impossible not to act. Of course, in that brief moment of weakness Clarke was clear she was not prepared for it. With her friend... her partner Bellamy in danger it was fairly clear to Lexa where Clarke’s priorities were. This isn’t to say that the actions that followed were because Lexa was let down. That was not the case... That moment and the conversations that came after just reaffirmed Clarke’s loyalty to her people. Sky People. Lexa had her loyalties too...
Plans were falling apart—and Lexa didn’t trust Clarke’s people to get the mountain’s defenses weakened in time... when offered the chance to trade her people for Clarke’s Lexa didn’t hesitate. Not even for a moment. She did care... She cared greatly for the sacrifices that Clarke’s people had made to get them to where they were but Lexa’s priorities would always be with her people. At the time, she thought this decision would not only be respected but honored by those who she returned to. Of course, she couldn’t have been more wrong. The political end in the mountain did not uphold their beliefs or their nature. Clarke did the thing Lexa was too afraid to do. She killed the mountain; stabbed it in its heart and let the blood of hundreds flow.
Wanheda they called her. Commander of death. She deserved that title—but Lexa received no praise for her actions. They made her look weak. They made her seem... afraid. Killing Wanheda crossed her mind. It did—and though she is not proud of the thought, she can’t deny that an envious and power hungry part of her longed for Wanheda’s power—especially when Nia had a bounty out for her head. Heda had her own connections... While she was still deciding what to do, she had her own bounty hunter sent from Polis to find her. A banished prince...
When he brought Clarke to her, she decided in that moment that an alliance would be stronger. Killing Clarke would look petty, even if she would absorb the power of those kills she did not need it. She was strong, and would be stronger with Clarke—with Wanheda on her side. Of course Clarke resented her for what she had done. Only a fool wouldn’t, but Lexa persisted. Politics over past—but the past is never fully erased. Blood has been spilled—and the Skaikru was only considered the thirteenth clan for a moment before they attacked her people out of revenge for Azgeda’s actions.
Now there is a question; Blood Must Have Blood—but can those traditions be changed? What is stronger? Fighting with force or forging a lasting and permanent alliance? More importantly—will Lexa’s decisions now be the death of her and her reign?
