Gena hadn’t done this in a while. She trained back on the Ark, but ever since she came down, this was getting rare. The problem was that she barely had time for doing this. With how chaotic things were in the beginning, she was often pulling double shifts, trying to help where she could. That meant she was working from easily midday to evening, cooking, mixing drinks before collapsing into bed. Then Mount Weather happened, the inevitable reunion with her old friend Bellamy. And more. With everything settling, Gena was only working one shift these days. It meant she had more time to herself and she could spend some quality time with Bellamy.
But as he was working right now, Gena had time to train a bit. She felt rusty enough as it was. The training room was nice, usually well used by the guards and cadets, but today it was relatively empty. Most people were probably working, sleeping or enjoying themselves. Most, but one, it seemed. Miller. She knew he was a friend of Bellamys, he was in the bar with the others often enjoying themselves. “You’re Miller, right?” She asked. Gena placed her back close to the punching bag. She bandaged her hands up and watched the young man curiously. She could immediately see why Bellamy thought of him so highly. He was a good guy.

Miller had some time to spare, and he thought it would be a good idea to head to the training room, something he enjoyed doing. Sometimes all he wanted was to be alone, and this was the perfect place. Today it seemed that most people didn't have the same idea as him, good, he thought, more quiet for me. He smirked lightly as he looked around the room, wondering what to do first. Before he could even think about starting an activity it was time for a warm up. He stretched first, trying to get some of the tension out of his body. It hadn't been a long time that he was at Mount Weather, and things had been tough with everyone, and having people from the Ark arrive on the ground. Things were quite chaotic, which meant more focus on keeping the peace and making sure that everything was fine.
After he stretched he finally decided to do some weights. It seemed that he would do his favourite routine. Start with weights, and end the session with the punching bag. Not long after he started with the weights a girl walked in. The girl from the bar. The one that Bellamy was close to. She stood beside the punching bag, and started to bandage her hands, watching him.“You’re Miller, right?” He nodded once, continuing to lift, watching her right back. "You're Gena." It was a fact that he knew. Didn't help that Bellamy continually talked about her. Not that it was a bad thing, of course. Everyone needed had someone they couldn't stop talking about. "What are you doing here?" He asked bluntly, but not harshly. She didn't seem like the type of girl to spend her free time in the training room, of all places. But he could be pleasantly surprised. He would just have to see.

You’re Gena. Wow, he knew that very surely. She had to ask how eventually, but maybe it was just him having eyes and ears actually. It wasn’t like Bellamy was hiding when he was hanging back in the bar after it started to close down. There was usually nobody left, but he didn’t seem to care when he helped her clean or just sat with her to talk. They fell back into their usual pattern easily. It was great. She knew how to handle those situations and having him here, while she adjusted to being all alone made things a lot easier for her. And hopefully she provided the support he needed. Gena smiled at Miller as she finished to bandage her hands.
“I’m training. Or well trying to.” She said. That probably didn’t make a lot of sense. People knew she was a bartender. On the ark she had little reason to train, but she still had. She did have her reasons after all. And despite letting herself get rusty over the past weeks, due to the Ark crashing to earth and mourning, she knew this training would come in handy here on earth. With the Grounders being a constant threat and all. “I used to work in a canteen on factory station. The men there could be… a bit rough, so I decided to learn self defense. It’s just basic, but I got pretty rusty. You were training to become a guard on the Ark?” Gena started to stretch a bit, focusing on legs and arms as she knew them to get the most strain from this.

She told him she was training. He could tell that she didn't have a lot of skills, just by her little comment 'Trying to'. He felt that she was doing the right thing. Training. No one ever knew when it could come in handy, especially down here on the ground. So many unexpected things. If she was willing to train than Miller could definitely see what Bellamy saw in her. She explained to him why, and he respected that. "Men can be dicks sometimes." Miller agreed. "Oh, and no. I got put in the Skybox before I could finish school." He shrugged, putting the weights down.
He should be trying to get to know her. For Bellamy's sake, the two of them were close, might as well get to know Gena if ever they were going to be more than just friends. "Would you like me to help train? It will be good to practise with an actual person, rather than that pathetic thing." He pointed at the punching bag. He didn't particularly like the punching bag, he himself preferred practising with people. If ever the need arouse he would be fighting people, so why not practise with people?

“Tell me about it.” She knew. Back on the Ark even Bellamy had to help one. She mainly wanted to gain advantage over the men for a short moment. Long enough so she could get away. That was all: Bring herself to safety one way or another. Not many men, at least not those on the Ark, expected a simple cook to fight back. It was her best advantage. And then back on the Ark in the last year, her other advantage was a very good looking janitor. “Oh that’s sad.” She didn’t like the entire concept of it. Why did they not let kids at least continue to study if they kept them locked up until they were eighteen? Some won their review. They could have gone straight into working, in millers case probably straight into the cadet program.
His offer was not unwelcome at all. People as opponents had the advantage that they could fight back, punching bags couldn’t. She had tried to work on a bit of strength. She would need that, too. “I would love that.” Gena replied. She was a bit nervous about it, though. “But please keep in mind: I usually train to get away from handsy customers in the car or canteen, I stand no chance against you, under usual circumstances.” At least if she could believe Bellamy and she usually could.

“Oh that’s sad.” He shrugged at her answer. He hadn't thought it was sad. School wasn't his thing. Learning had not been a priority for him.It was one of the reasons he stole, to take the boredom away. Though school sometimes seemed better than the skybox, sometimes. Alone with your thoughts could drive someone insane. Not that he went insane. But that was beside the point. "Not really. There would have been no point. Most kids get floated, why bother teaching them anything if they're not even going to use that knowledge." He told her, rather bluntly. "Besides," He gave a sly smile. "School wasn't really my thing." It was more that he wanted to appease his father. “But please keep in mind: I usually train to get away from handsy customers in the car or canteen, I stand no chance against you, under usual circumstances.” She told him, and he nodded once. He understood. Everyone had to start off somewhere, on the ark she had no reason to learn anything other than basic self defence. "I promise I won't go hard on you." He told her, moving over to where the mats had been placed, in the center of the room. He knew if he pushed Gena harder than she could handle, well Bellamy would certainly have a few words to him. He respected the guy too much to do anything. It would definitely be fun to teach someone, to be reminded of the basic training. Plus this would be a way to get to know Gena, he was sure Bellamy would appreciate that.
He pointed to a spot about a meter in front of him. "Once you're done. Come stand here." He instructed her. Miller was glad that the place was empty, not because it was about the judgement, but just because it made training easier. A quiet place meant he could focus, and it also allowed for some casual conversation.

“I would know a few reasons.” One to keep those kids in check. She knew only a few of them were in strict isolation, others could interact. Interaction could bring conflict, which was easily counteracted by giving them something to do, like studying. While a lot were floated in the end, some kids won their review and it surely would have been easier to reintegrate them would they be up to date with school work. But she was just a grunt. It was never her choice, not could she do anything against or for it. She could relate to Miller saying school wasn’t his thing. It wasn’t hers either, though here he was going towards becoming a guard, something he would have needed education for, while she was just a simple grunt, something she didn’t need education for.
Gena, stretched and ready moved towards Miller, nervous, since he was not only undoubtedly physically stronger, but probably a lot better at this than she could be. She stood no chance in a normal fight, just like she stood no chance against Bellamy, even though he let her hace the upper hand once in a while. Gena got into a protective stance, like Bellamy had shown her, not her trainer on the Ark, as he knew she would not be in one should she get attacked in the canteen in factory. Gena waited, stared at him, a bit nervous, but she somehow knew he’d not aim to actually hurt her.

Miller watched as Gena stretched herself, and got ready for a little sparring. He was glad that she was taking this seriously. Sparring, even a little amount was beneficial, now that they were on the ground. In a bad situation it could mean life or death. Finally she was ready and she stood in front of him. Standing in a protective she face him, and he could see a slightly nervousness in her face. "Relax." He told her. "Show me what you can do." Hopefully if she relaxed at least it would be both productive, and give them a chance to talk while sparring.
He stood in the same protective stance as she did, legs slightly apart, one in front of the other, and hands held up. He was interested to see how much she had learned. "Has Bellamy taught you anything?" He wondered. He knew the two of them were very close, and it wouldn't be surprising if Bellamy had taught Gena a thing or two.

It was easier said than done, when her capabilities were kind of aimed more for defense. Still she tried to strike out, stopping before she even got close to hurting him. That was another problem: She was a kind woman. She liked people, liked her friends. She didn’t want to harm Bellamys or her friends. This was training, but she had never trained with Miller before. She had to kind of feel him out at first, to know what to expect of him and how far she could go with him. She didn’t want to hurt anyone, not even those who attacked her. Gena got lucky more than once so far, but that was an entirely different thing. She learned it.
“He didn’t teach me much.” Gena pointed out. “He’s a busy man.” Part of it was certainly to keep his mind away from what he experienced and Gena meant to encourage it. He needed the distraction to focus sometimes. She offered an open and neutral ear to listen to him as well and he did open up to her. “I learned from a former guard on the Ark. Bell showed me a few tricks, like pushing an attackers nose up, those sensible areas.” Not many, she learned a lot from her trainer, too, but Bell always dropped a few hints. “And he taught me how to use a gun.” Not that she was good at it, but she agreed, she had to know. She was going on supply runs, she had to know how to defend herself should it come to an attack.
