Her brown hair usually tied up in a simple ponytail or braided away from her face, and her wardrobe is simple, consisting of dark pants and a shirt, occasionally accompanied by a worn-down leather jacket. Her age is shown in the wrinkles of her skin, but she tends to appear younger whenever she smiles.

.:Personality:. Abigail Griffin falls in the category of neutral good. She is devoted to helping others and isn't afraid to break or bend the rules when doing so. As a mother, a doctor, and a leader, Abigail's loyalty is strong and her motives are usually for the greater good. She's also wise and has a vast expertise in medicine which made her a crucial part of the Ark. Compared to Kane or Jaha, she's not much of a public speaker, but her motherly aura and logical thinking helps easily earn others' trusts.

Abigail is strong-willed and relies greatly on hope. In the past, she's has made risky decisions, all of which she's not afraid to own up to. Abigail is not afraid of consequence and would gladly face them as long as she believes her actions were for the greater good and/or the well-being of her family. 

Lastly, Abigail has the tendency to look at the bigger picture rather than each individuals' needs. An example was the incident of her husband's execution. Believing that the council couldn't afford to have the public alarmed, Abigail sacrificed her husband's life and her daughter's freedom for the sake of keeping the Ark's diminishing air supply a secret.

.:History:. From a young age, Abigail was heavily influenced to pursue a medical career from her mother and father. She eventually did follow their advice and became licensed in medicine, earning herself the title of Chief Medical Officer along the way. Abigail married Jake Griffin, an amiable man who was also the Senior Environmental officer of the Ark. Several years after the birth of their first and only child, Clarke, Abigail was nominated for a spot on the Ark's Council.

The Griffins lived a privileged life compared to the other citizens of the Ark. The family's happiness would all dissipate when Jake discovered an error with the Ark's oxygen level, one that would eventually cause the Ark to be unlivable.
Jake believed that the people of the Ark deserved to know about the flaw and planned to go public with the news. In fear of alarming the public, Abigail confided with Jaha about Jake's plan, hoping that the Chancellor could persuade her husband not to go public with the information. Instead, Abigail accidentally convicted Jake. The Chancellor had Jake Griffin floated before he was able to notify the public about the Ark's flaw. 

Not only did Abby lose her husband that day, but she also lost her daughter. Because of her knowledge of the error, Clarke was placed in juvenile lock-up. In addition, Abigail willingly chose not to tell her daughter that Jake's death was her fault.

Believing that it was the only way the Ark's people were going to survive, Abigail supported and assisted running the program that sent 100 delinquents down to Earth.
