.:Personality:. Charlotte was an extremely traumatized child.  She was often frightened and exhibited psychotic tendencies.  She was clever in some respects and horribly naive in others. Charlotte lacked a basic understanding of the world in part because of her inability to let go of past pain.  She was an irresponsible sort moved more by whimsy and emotion than logic. And she bottled up her issues to the point where she imploded to have some form of release.  (Nightmares were not enough.)

She was a shy sort who was none-the-less eager to please, very much wanting to make friends and earn respect. Charlotte hated being considered a kid. She wanted to be taken seriously. And she figured she should be as there was no longer anyone to take care of her, her parents being deceased.  After her parents' demise, Charlotte was plagued with night terrors.  Eventually she was ruled by them, willing to do anything to make them stop including murder.

.:History:. Charlotte had a happy childhood until her parents were floated. Her mother was tender and loving and always willing to brush her hair.  Her father would sit and tell her stories.  He taught her to play chess.  She was no where near as good as him. But she hoped one day she could surpass him. She'd keep practicing until she could.  When she turned nine everything went to hell.  She didn't know what crimes her parents committed. As a child, they tried to shelter her from the truth.  But no one could shelter her from their execution.  They were floated by Chancellor Jaha while she watched.  Then she was alone. And when guards came to take her parents' things, it was just too much for her.  She assaulted a guard to take it back, her mother's locket and then she was arrested.

She was one of the 100 prisoners sent down to Earth to see if it was habitable.  One day when she followed the hunting party Bellamy almost killed her with a knife when she stepped on a twig, believing her to be a grounder.  Bellamy asked why she was there; and, she explained she couldn't be near the dying kid.  He didn't force her back to camp and instead gave her a knife to include her in the hunt.

Later Bellamy and Charlotte took cover from acidic fog.  She suffered from another nightmare.  Bellamy told her that to make the nightmares stop she had to slay her demons.  If she took care of them while she was awake, they wouldn't bother her in her sleep.  The next day they found Anton who had not been as fortunate.  Having been caught in the acidic fog unlike them, he pleaded for death.  To give Bellamy encouragement, Charlotte offered him the knife he'd previously given to her.  She told Bellamy not to be afraid.  He told Charlotte to leave.  She pretended to go but secretly watched as Clarke ended Anton's life.

That night she stabbed Wells Jaha to slay her demons, thinking since his father's face kept haunting her dreams, this was the only way to stop the nightmares.  As he bled out she hummed the same song Clarke sung to Anton.

Originally it is assumed Murphy killed Wells Jaha and he is strung up and nearly hung. But Charlotte confessed the truth before he was dead.  He was taken down and then Murphy demanded Charlotte be handed over to him to be dealt with. Charlotte fled in the company of Clarke and Finn.  Clarke berated her for killing Wells. Finn thought Clarke should be gentler given that she was just a kid.  At night she sneaked away from Clarke and Finn not wishing to cause them any more trouble.  But then Bellamy found her.  Still she called the attention of everyone.  Clarke tried to talk things out but Murphy put a knife to Clarke's throat. Murphy wanted to exchange Clarke for Charlotte.  Charlotte was willing to let him take her but Bellamy and Clarke weren't.  Charlotte then jumped over the cliff, plummeting to her death so no one else would get hurt because of her crime.
