Monroe is a short female, standing at only five inches over five feet. However, what she lacks in height she makes up for in athleticism. Her small frame is corded with sleek muscle tone, which tells of her penchant for moving and running. A wealth of ginger hair tops the short female, which is almost always tied in three french braids away from her face, and hanging down her back. To match this, Monroe has a pair of striking green eyes peering from beneath a fringe of thick black lashes.

Monroe can be described as a brave and caring woman. She feels for those around her on a higher level than most, often caring about each one, how they feel at the time, and how to make them more comfortable. Though brave enough to wield a gun and spear when the fight comes to her, she can be overwhelmed by fear, which can cause a fight or flight reflex that often bends towards flight. However, her need to protect those around her often wins out and, even if she originally flees, she is more likely to turn around and come back. Susceptible to guilt for any number of things, Monroe's decision making often depends on her emotional turmoil at any given time.

Monroe was the only child to a single mother, whom had slept with one of the guards to keep her best friend from being locked up and floated. The pregnancy had come as a shock to both her mother, and the guard, but in an attempt to keep the girl quiet, he threatened to float them all if she opened her mouth. Instead she explained it away as a night of drinking, and was granted the ability to keep the child. Life on the ark was hard for both Monroe and her young mother, neither of which had much of anything, and were often forced to take what they needed to survive. Thanks to their station in life, and mostly forgotten by the Ark in general, Monroe and her mother existed simply by their own will.

When Monroe was ten, her mother was caught stealing extra rations from another families quarters. For this, she was floated, and Monroe was left alone. Since their family had already been flying under the radar of the ark council, and the chancellor, she was also forgotten. Bitter and upset over her mothers fate, and over being left to fend for herself, Monroe spent the next five years drifting in and out of ark life, often hiding in maintenance bays, and other various locations about the space station, taking what she needed, and simply existing.

At the age of fifteen, however, a guard recognized her as the daughter of the previously floated thief, and approached her. Seeking to take advantage of what he knew about her, he gave her an ultimatum. Either do what he asked her to, or be floated and join her mother. In a blind rage Monroe attacked the man. To this day she doesn't quite remember what happened, since she blacked out. However, what she does remember is being pulled off the dead man, covered in his blood, a screwdriver protruding from his neck.

Due to her age she was thrown into solitary confinement in lockup, and was literally forgotten. Two years later she was pulled from her confinement to join the 100, and was sent to the ground. Unknown to her, this was a personal request by the guard whom had fathered her, in an attempt to save her from being floated for what she had done, since her eighteenth birthday loomed ahead of her.
