i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Bellamy Kane was heading toward his father's residence for their weekly dinner. Despite the fact of it only being the two of them, they still had their own apartments for . . . reasons. Bellamy was an adult and needed his privacy. Just like his father needed his. It was also why they set aside one day every week -- usually the same day -- to meet for dinner. Their jobs kept them busy enough -- as Bellamy was highly career oriented.
How could he not be considering who he was the son of. While there may be that pressure, it was not a burden. Bellamy quite liked his position and the work he did under the guidance and leadership of Marcus Kane. He had no complaints about that aspect of his life. Arriving at the door, Bellamy casually punched in the code before entering. Had this visit been an unplanned one, he would have knocked first. But considering he came here at this time, every week, it was to be expected. "Hey Dad," he greeted, closing the door behind him. "Did you need me to get anything?" He asked, not having checked prior and could easily go grab something now.

Marcus Kane had been a widower for almost 20 years now, but he was not a saint. He had made many mistakes along the way, but none of them involved his son, thankfully. Which was why he always made time out of his schedule to be free for his son--no matter what is going on. He wanted to make sure there was never a regret when it was his time to go. "Hey Dad," Marcus heard, and walked out of his bed room to greet his son; the only family he had left. "Bellamy." "Did you need me to get anything?" "No, I made sure everything was ready." Their meals were not fancy but it was the company rather then the food they came for.
"Heard you made an arrest, last night. Good work." Marcus told him, knowing that arrest mean that Bellamy was doing his job well. That made him proud! It was never easy to make an arrest knowing that it meant someone would die, but Marcus believed the rules were there for a reason, and if people were allowed to break them then history would always repeat it's self. "It's brought some attention on you. Jaha himself was commenting on your skills." Marcus told him while moving to put some of the foods on the table.

i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Despite his father's assurance that he didn't need to get anything, Bellamy remained standing, waiting for his father before he would be seated. He brought up the arrest that Bellamy made last night, and he felt a sense of pride at his father's praise, more so hearing that the Chancellor himself had commented on it. "That honors me," he said humbly. It was true that with the status of his family, considering how highly regarded and positioned his father was . . . it made it easier to be recognized in such a way. But Bellamy preferred hard work over taking things for granted.
Hence, the reason he felt proud that his father commented on it. "I learned from the best," he said with a bit of a smirk, a returned praise toward his father. "What exactly did the Chancellor say?" Bellamy asked as he casually went to his father's bedroom. He had forgotten a shirt the other day and wondered if it had gotten mixed up with his father's. He opened one of the drawers and noticed a lightly colored article of clothing. Slightly raising an eyebrow, curiosity took over the sole Kane son as he pulled it out and opened it. Interesting. Very interesting indeed. Because this was not something worn by his father . . . or any man. Bellamy went to the doorframe, standing in it as he held up the dress. "Didn't think this was your style," he said a bit teasingly toward him, though really, it was the least awkward way he could bring up a conversation as to why there were women's clothing in his dresser.

"That honors me," Bellamy said and Marcus smiled, proudly. He was proud of the man his son had turned out to be. "What exactly did the Chancellor say?" He asked while walking toward the bedroom. Marcus didn't care that he did. They had lived together for almost 20 years, and he had nothing to hide. Bellamy and him wore the same size shirt sometimes--Marcus was a bit thicker around the middle while Bellamy was thicker in the chest--so they were all too use to mixing up clothes or even sharing when they needed too.
"He was commenting on your effectiveness. You managed to handle it with dignity, and without bias." Which was hard sometimes when you knew arresting someone for something meant they would be floated for the crime. Bellamy had manage to do it, and remain fair in his paperwork. "Didn't think this was your style," Marcus looked up to see what his son had, and his face turned stoic. Even slightly a darker shade. Walking forward he pulled it from his son's grip before tossing ti back in the draw and slamming it shut. He then jerked another drawer open and gestured to the shirts. Marcus walked back to the table intent on ignoring it. What happened between him and adult women was his own business.
Though now that the topic was open, he knew he should take advantage of it. He was thinking of asking Callie to move in with him once her own daughter moved out. While he had never spoken of her to his son he wondered if he should. "There is a woman whom I have been seeing. It's beginning to get serious." Marcus told him, leaving off names while testing the waters to see how Bellamy would take the news. He honestly had no idea how he'd react.

i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Bellamy was thoroughly distracted from the conversation about the Chancellor's honoring words about him . . . as the Kane son was more focused on the discovery of a woman's undergarment among his father's things. Despite Kane's guarded reaction, Bellamy could see that slight shift in his demeanour, which only made him smirk a little. Not too much though. He doubted his father would be amused by it. Putting her thing back in the drawer, he exited the room and Bellamy followed him, not even caring why he went in there to begin with.
It was then revealed that Marcus had been seeing someone; that it was getting serious. To Bellamy's knowledge, his father had not been serious with any woman since his mother. Since Aurora. He imagined he would have had . . . encounters with women, but none that Bellamy had formally met. He just remained silent, letting the words sink in. There was no judgment in his expression or even his voice when he spoke.
Truth be told, he wasn't sure how to handle the news. "Who is it?" He asked, figuring that was the best place to start. Did Bellamy know her? Had he met her? She had to be someone pretty damn special for his father to be serious about. At the end of the day . . . he just wanted him to be happy. That was what mattered most. And ones profession could only bring them so much contentment. There were other things in life that were needed in order to feel truly fulfilled.

Marcus wasn't the sort to display any signs of nervousness, or doubt, but he felt it. Not doubt in his relationship with Callie, but nervous to tell his son that he was moving on from his mother's death. He wanted to make sure Bellamy under stood that he would always love his mother in a very special way, but that he had fallen in love and with Callie's daughter turning 18 soon, he wanted to ask her to move in. Or perhaps even more.
Bellamy gave no sign to what he was feeling, and Marcus was used to watching him for reactions. His son only asked who she was. A logical question, but as he had never spoke out loud about this relationship it was odd to do it now. "It's Callie." He didn't need to give more detail, Bellamy would know who she was. Callie was on the council, and known Ark wide. She was the face of the council, and as a guardsmen, Bellamy would have had dealings with her.
"Bellamy, I want you to know that I will always love your mother." That was important for him to know. Whatever happened between him and Callie, that much would never change. Marcus wasn't with Callie because he was lonely. He hadn't even realized he was until she made the feeling go away. He was with her because she didn't like him take himself too seriously. She called him on his stubbornness. She was so smart, and utterly adorable. That had been his first thought when he had met her--that the student before him was adorable. He had never stopped thinking it.

i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Bellamy waited to hear the name of the woman, and when he did . . . he had to admit he was surprised, and yet not at the same time. The identity of the woman shouldn't be surprising, and yet . . . there was a reason that it was. But of course, he made no show of this. "Cartwig?" Though he already knew the answer before asking the question. Bellamy didn't know Callie as much as . . . her daughter. Something had happened between them, and while it hadn't been anything long term . . . it sure as hell would be a little awkward now. Bellamy had met Callie of course, as she was on the council. He had nothing against her. It was more just the fact that . . . well, it seemed that both he and his father had been paying some attention to the Cartwig women.
Though Marcus more closely than Bellamy. It was Kane's next words that sobered him a little. The realization of who she was began to subside, as the words about his mother came forth. Aurora was not a subject that he and Kane talked a lot about. It was a massively painful loss for the both of them. "I know," he said in a low voice, forcing back the emotion that inevitably arose whenever the topic of his mother was presented. He then looked at his father, taking a couple steps toward him.
"I get it," he stated. The thought of his father being with someone would of course need adjusting to . . . but it wasn't something Bellamy was against. "You don't have to tell me that no one will replace her," Bellamy added on, figuring that was often the next line people would say, and wanted to save his father from having reassure him. "Cause I get it," he repeated. He paused for a moment, looking at his father intently, wanting to see what he could from his face as he asked this next question. This very important question. "Are you happy, Dad?" Because that was what mattered. Whether his father was happy. Truly happy.

Bellamy gave the last name as confirmation that he understood who he was, and Marcus spoke up to make sure there was no doubt. "Yes, Callie Cartwig." He couldn't tell much about what Bellamy was thinking, but he was trying to see the details. He knew his son well, but Bellamy had his father's habit of not wearing his heart on his shelve. It made him hard to read, even for his father.
Bellamy did give him a clue in his words however, since he his was as stoic as his fathers. He told him that he knew no one would replace his mother, and for Marcus that was enough that he advertised his eyes to better be able to handle the memory. He had loved her. The lost that left him a single father had been one that he never had been able to speak of. Not in any detail. Maybe that wasn't a good thing, and maybe it affected how his son handled it, but Marcus couldn't change the past. He could only work toward the future.
Whic was why he looked back at his son when Bellamy asked him that last question. Was he happy? "You have always made me happy, Bellamy. I have never felt more pride or honor in being your father." He told him, but knew what he was asking. "She brings a feeling of ease to my life that I have not had since your mother." He tried to explain before finding himself almost smiling at finally talking about her to his. "I enjoy who I am around her. For men like us, that is rare, and I hope you find that one day." He had had it with Bellamy's mother, and now once again with Callie.

i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Marcus reassured him that he made him happy, yet at the same time . . . Bellamy was aware that a partner brought forth a different kind of happiness and joy. He was well aware that Aurora's death had left that hole, in both their lives. But Bellamy had never felt any lacking affection from his father. He was quite fortunate in that aspect with the man his father was. It was the comparison of Callie to his mother that made Bellamy truly realize just how serious Marcus was about this; just how much he cared for the woman. "Well, if you're happy dad, then I'm happy for you." It was odd, no doubt. But Bellamy was not one to interject in his father's happiness. If he cared about her so deeply, then he deserved that.
He worked hard enough to have someone who could be there for him . . . in a way that a child could not. Bellamy had never been in love, and his father spoke of how he hoped it for him as well. Truth be told, Bellamy had no plans to form any sort of romantic relationship with another. He was more focused on his career and work at the moment. Marcus' words had made Bellamy's heart swell with pride, to know that he made his father proud was the greatest honor a child could ever have.
"I guess I should meet her?" He both asked and stated at the same time. He wasn't sure how it would be, to meet her. But he was protective over his father, and wanted to get to know the woman who was with him so intimately. Granted, Bellamy had met Callie before but these would be under different circumstances. "How long have you two been together?" He wondered, realizing just how little he knew about this, and yet . . . he knew a lot at the same time. The impact it had on his father, and the value Marcus placed on it. That, told him a great deal more than any small detail could.

Marcus was grateful when his son told he that he was glad he was happy. This wasn't their normal type of conversation, but it was one they needed to have to make sure they were both aware of what was happening since Marcus was thinking about beginning something public with Callie rather then just keeping it between themselves. Bellamy finding the clothing just made it seem like fate. He hoped that his son and his . . . . and Callie would get along, and that they could move forward together. He wasn't sure what to call Callie right now, other then just 'someone he loved'. Girl friend wasn't serious and sounded childish to a man his age.
He wanted to meet her, and Marcus felt an odd emotion that he could only pin point as nervous over that idea, but he didn't let it show. "I will arrange something. She has a daughter, perhaps the group of could sit down and co-meet on official terms." He knew her daughter, but she didn't know about him and Callie either. At least not that he was aware of. Then Bellamy asked how long, and Marcus wondered how best to answer. "I am going to decline giving you a number, but know that I have taken things slow. Callie and I are both very career driven people, and we have taken things slow. I have decided to change that. Perhaps begin by making things public." Working their way from there. "It means a lot to have your support. I know that being raised by a single parent is hard." He was raised by one, and had never really spoken about his father, who had been in and out of his life from birth until Marcus had arrested him and taken him to be floated. "Perhaps I should have done this sooner. Given you a mother figure you . . . . be a mother." Though Bellamy had his grandmother, he knew it wasn't the same. He was a career driven man, and Bellamy had paid for it at times when he couldn't be a father at the same time.

i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Marcus spoke of arranging something with Callie and . . . her daughter. Oh Bellamy knew she had a daughter. In fact, he knew her daughter quite well. Physically. Damn that was going to be weird. But he made sure not to show any sign of the thought of spending time with his father's girlfriend and her daughter who he had physical relations with in the past. "You make it sound like a business meeting," Bellamy said teasingly toward his father, if only to help put him at ease . . . or for Bellamy to distract his own mind about Lilly. Whatever the reason, it was his attempted a lighter humored joke. Though it did hold some truth to it. He didn't give a number, but instead, spoke of how they had taken things slow due to their careers.
"Are you going to release an official statement or something?" He asked, only half kidding about it. Bellamy was also hinting toward the inquiry of whether his father was planning on proposing to her. This clearly wasn't something short term; he was serious about her, and it sounded like she was serious about him. Bellamy gave a bit of a smile as his father expressed his appreciation for his support, claiming that being raised by a single parent was hard . . . lamenting in the fact that he should have done this sooner, given him a mother figure sooner. "I turned out just fine without one," he told him, his subtle -- or not so subtle way -- or telling his father that he never felt lacking affection. But wanting to make it more solidly known, he continued on.
"Mom will always be a part of us." A part of his father, a part of Bellamy. She would forever be his mother, despite her not being physically present with them. "But you and grandmom, never made me feel anything but loved." Having an emotional conversation as this one was a rarity for the two of them, but it was necessary now. "I didn't need a mother figure." He didn't need a replacement for his mother. He obviously would have loved to have his mother with them, to have Aurora in their lives . . . but he didn't need someone else. She was the only mother he would have wanted. "I had you." As both parents, and Bellamy never felt sorry for himself for it. He felt damn proud, to have Marcus Kane as his father.

Bellamy made a jest about a business meeting instead and Marcus knew he was nervous and his words were coming out more formal then they should be. This was his son, but they were different. Bellamy had an easier time of expressing himself with the girls. Marcus wasn't an idiot, he knew that his son had girls in his life but never any one special. While he didn't keep tabs on him, he heard things. Thankfully, not many things. VERY thankfully, only vague things. Such as 'Oh I saw your boy with this girl at this place, he is looking like his father' rather then who might be making it home with him. Marcus had fell in love with Aurora early on, and there had not be anyone else until now.
He had smiled, and relaxed a bit at his son's jest, but didn't comment on it until he was asked if there would be an statement let out. "Nothing so official. I don't think my personal life needs to be announced, but we have taken care not to let others know, and I am too old to be playing such games any more." He couldn't speak on more then that without Callie. He knew she had views about how relationships were, and marriage--he wasn't sure how much or how fast she would want things happening.
Bellamy went on to speak of his mother, and how he had always felt loved. That he had not needed a mother figure. "I had you." The words caused Marcus to need to take a moment before speaking. He had never known what a good father was, and had often wondered if he was doing everything he could. While he knew his son loved him, and was proud of who he was--hearing Bellamy express things made he feel that pride again; for both his son and in his relationship with his son. Something he had never had with his own father. "I can see you have your mother's well timed, and well said words of wisdom." He lightly joked, but not to take away the power of the words, but to instead bring up good thoughts. "She would be very proud of you, son."

i just want YOU TO BE HAPPY Bellamy listened to his father's response about how he didn't think his personal life needed to be announced, and that they had ensured not to let others find out. That much Bellamy could easily believe, because he hadn't the slightest idea about them until this conversation. But it also indicated just how serious they were getting if he was revealing his relationship to Bellamy. "Well considering your position on the Ark dad, people are going to find out . . . eventually." His father was one of the highest ranking officials, apart from the Chancellor himself. It would only be a matter of time before people would start asking or noticing. Maybe not soon, as they seemed to be doing a rather good job of keeping it quiet. But certainly, eventually.
And Bellamy wasn't going to put his father on the spot by inquiring about his future with this woman. It was serious. His father was happy. That was all that seemed to matter. He watched Kane react to his words, a smile of pride forming on Bellamy's own lips as his father told him that his mother would be proud of him. He hoped so. Just as he hoped his father was proud of him. He strived to make both his parents proud; a man worthy of calling them their son. . . even if one of them was no longer with them. "Thank you," he said gratefully, an strong sincerity and honor in his tone. "But I can't give mom all the credit for the words of wisdom," Bellamy began to say, insinuating to the fact that his father could be credited for that as well. But in the same jestful tone of voice, he continued. "Grandmother taught me a lot as well." A tease, as if it was accredited to only those women . . . when Bellamy knew of course that he learned the most from his father.
