our little miracle
Christian tossed and turned in her sleep. The cold and the crunch of the forest floor caused her restlessness, yet she was still dreaming one of the most beautiful dreams she'd had since first being on the Ground. One of her pride and joy, her daughter. Isabel Blake. It was the most simple of dreams, yet it seemed so real. In reality, Christian, Bellamy, and a few others were on a hunting trip. One that should have taken half a day to get to the clearing they had planned on hunting in, and half a day back. One day entirely. But that's not what happened.
It had been three days. Three days! Three days Christian had gone without her daughter. Her heart swelled at the thought that today would be the day that she would see her again. Christian could hardly wait. The dilemma with the hunting trip, the hunting part had gone smoothly, but the weather had gotten in the way. First, it had rained all day. That had been the day after they had finished hunting, since it was too late the minute they had finished the day before. They waited a day until it cleared up, but then it was replaced by thick fog; too thick to navigate back to camp to. So they waited until that had cleared up, and now, Christian was anxious to see her baby girl again.
When the dream ended, and she woke up, Christian let a small sigh escape her lips. Morning. No weather complications in sight. It looked like smooth sailing from there, she just had to wait until everyone else in their party had woken up. The old Christian, the stubborn, reckless, irresponsible one, she would have woken everyone else up herself in order to get what she wanted, and to feed her over-sized ego. But Chrissa was different now. She could be patient; being a mother had done that to her. It had reduced her ego considerably, and made her forget all about her wants and needs, and made her focus just on Isabel.
Bellamy was a great help with that. He showed her things that she had never thought before, while she was pregnant. He had helped her through the pregnancy, which had been pretty rough for her, and helped her care for and raise Isabel; Isabel was, after all, his kid too. Speaking of Bellamy, as Christian sat up, she looked over to the space that he was supposed to have been occupying for the night. It was empty, just a Bellamy-shaped dent in the leaves of where he should have been. Chris sat up quickly and looked around for him. "Bellamy?" Chrissa whisper-yelled. "Bell!" Christian repeated just as softly and quietly, as if Isabel was there, but sleeping.
Christian slowly stood up, and looked around. She shivered involuntarily and saw Bell's jacket on the ground next to where he had been sleeping, so Christian picked it up and slipped it over her shoulders, flipping the collar up. It smelled like him. She softly inhaled the scent as she quietly walked down a little dirt trail. Eventually, fifteen minutes later, she found him, sitting on a rather large rock that was facing the sun as it rose that morning. "Hey," Christian said softly, but loud enough to be heard, walking over to Bellamy and sitting down. "Can't sleep?" Chris asked. She shook her head. "Me neither." Christian said. She sat in silence, leaning her head against Bellamy's shoulder with a sigh. "I miss her. So, so much." Christian murmured softly after a few minutes of silence as she watched the sun rise.
