With her fair skin, blond hair, blue eyes and thick lips Em was always one of the prettiest girls around. Of course this made a lot of things easier for her, like getting people to do her favors. But she also found that noone would take her seriously and most people didn't believe that she had something to say, that she had a valid opinion. People only saw her beauty and she quickly realized that her appearance could often be more of a curse than a blessing. That made her all the more stubborn and determined in seeing things through and showing everyone what a pretty girl could really do.

Em had a very protected childhood. Her parents practically worshipped their child – her mother always fussed over her since she obviously was her only child and she was her father's little princess. When she was younger, Emilia loved the attention she got from her parents, but once she grew into a teenager, the fussing mostly annoyed her and she also started feeling guilty that they spent all their time and points on her.
With her appearance, noone ever seemed to believe that she could be smart or that she would chose a hard carrer path. That just made her all the more determined to become a guard and a very good one at that. Her parents were less than happy with her choice and tried to convince her to change her mind, because they were worried about their daughter. But she wouldn't let them or the ones who told her she couldn't do it go back on her decision.
The one person who truly believed in and supported her was her boyfriend Lukas. He helped her work out and stay fit for her demanding training and didn't resent her for spending less time with him like some of her friends did.
When Em finally completed her training and became a full member of the Guard, she felt like rubbing it into each and every doubters face, but she was too disciplined to do so.
The nxt few years of her life were the happiest she'd ever been – she felt succesfull and important through the work she did, her relationship with Lukas was going great and she just felt like she was doing what she was supposed to do.
Her life seemed even more perfect when Lukas proposed to her and soon after, the couple found out that Em was pregnant. It looked like things couldn't get better until it was revealed that they wouldn't be able to survive on the Ark for much longer.
Em and Luke were huddled close together and her parents were on her other side when they came down with Alpha Station, Emilia holding her grown stomach as she was now in the fifth month of her pregnancy. When she woke up after their fall to Earth, everything was chaos but the one thing sharp in her mind was the terrible pain in her stomach and the panic she felt because of it.

She felt like she was in a nightmare when she found out that not only both her parents and Lukas had been killed in the descend, but she'd also lost her unborn child. The horror of having to give birth to her dead son was almost unbearable and she wished she had died along with her family.
All she could think of doing was delve right back into her work and accept any task that others might classify as too risky. Her colleagues tried to reason with her, telling her that she should take care of herself but Em didn't see the point in trying to protect herself if she hadn't even been able to protect her child.
