TAKE AN ANGEL BY THE WINGs | BEG HER NOW FOR ANYTHING; Ask her for the strength to stay | TAGGED @nuala
| Avery’s mum and a few others from The Ark had left Camp Jaha. They were given a chance to escape. The children were invited to the ocean, where they were taken in by grounders with masks and strange weapons that didn’t look at all like the swords and bows that the grounders at Camp Jaha used. It had been scary, honestly, but Avery was just happy that this place didn’t have the same hostile energy that Camp Jaha did. Ever since they landed, it seemed like everything was wrong... the Mountain had their people, grounders wanted to kill them, then there was a ceasefire of sorts, but really it was a cold war. He had friends, some who came and some who didn’t... The boat people couldn’t take everybody. It would have been impossible.
Ever since they had come here, Avery’s mother had been so protective. When he did manage to slip away, he found himself drawn to a young girl named Nuala. She was pretty with green and blue in her hair, with strange clothes and a starfish necklace. Avery may have been a little smitten... He had slipped away from his mother and made her a necklace with green and blue stones that shined like the water beneath them. The other grounders thought that his gift was adorable and were more than willing to help him. He was used to using his childish charms for this kind of thing, but Nuala was different. She seemed much older than Avery was, with the way she acted. It made him want to impress her.
“Nuala!” Avery called as he jogged across the deck of the oil rig. He saw her near the edge and knew that he wouldn’t get another chance if his mom found out where he’d gone. He wasn’t exactly hiding, but he didn’t want to stay inside all day. He wanted to explore. Avery had barely spoken to Nuala. It made him nervous now. “I made this for you!” He said with a grin as he held up the necklace. “It’s the same color as your hair. I thought you’d like it.”

AI GADA KLIRNES IN Nuala was in heaven. Yes, heaven. She loved new people. Not because she was curious, which of course she was, but because she knew first hand just how much it meant to find the peaceful clan. The older that Nuala got, the more she started to realise that these other people who came in had escaped war and death just like she had. Still, curiosity and new kids to play with was also really good. There were a couple of new older kids. A couple younger. One kid that had stood out to Nuala was a little boy with big eyes and big hair. He was typically playful with a grin that even Nuala thought was cute, in that way that babies were cute. Often times when she had seen the boy he had been by his mother's side. The two seemed to be tied together by some invisible force expect when they weren't. Nuala hadn't actually talked to him much, though.
As Nuala heard her name called, in a voice no other than this boy, Avery, that she had been thinking about, she turned towards the sound. The boy was grinning from ear to ear and Nuala could almost be sure some of the adults would make noises over that. Some of the adults still made noises when Nuala did things, although she was beginning to understand more and more why they did such a thing. "Hi Avery!" she said, even waving to the boy as he approached her. Her eyes automatically dropped down to see what he was holding, a necklace that he had made the same colour as her hair. Nuala couldn't help the grin that widened on her face, hands moving to reach out and touch the stones that were blue and green and very beautiful.
"Thank you," she said, her voice off just a little as she suddenly wondered why. "It's very beautiful." There was a question in her voice now but she still managed to keep the smile on her face. After a moment, she pushed the question out of her head. Things didn't need a why, that was an old way of thinking from Azgeda. Why couldn't Avery make her a necklace just because? Sometimes Nuala felt like she would never be free of some of the thinking she had grown up with in Azgeda. "It is the same colour as my hair." Reaching out, Nuala took the necklace from Avery, making sure not to snatch it. The stones only looked prettier up close, shining like water as the sun reflected off them. |

| Avery smiled as she took the necklace from his hands and took a closer look. He'd chosen each stone carefully, making sure that the colors glittered with quartz. Those who were making their own clothing and jewelry had helped him choose them and were very generous. He watched Nuala look at the gems and grinned with excitement-- his cheeks dimpling lightly as he smiled. She really liked it. She wasn't just acting like it and that meant a lot to Avery. He could always tell if somebody was pretending. "I'm happy you like it," he said as he lightly reached out to turn one of the larger gems to show her the reflective quartz. "I got some help from some fishermen. They helped me put it together." Now his smile was a little more bashful-- wishing he could take all the credit, but knowing he couldn't do that honestly.
"We didn't have stones on the ark; in the sky I mean," he carefully picked up the necklace from her hands and moved behind her so he could put it on her. Hesitantly, he swept her hair to one side and rested the necklace around her neck before hooking the clasp closed like he was shown. "We didn't have water like this either though... This place has really pretty things," He knew they didn't know a lot about them. They called them Sky People, or Skaikru. "If we did, they would probably use the rocks for salt. They wouldn't make necklaces with them... Or anything like that at all,"
He fixed her hair and moved it so it would fall down her back once again. With his smile in place he moved back to his place in front of her and tilted his head with burning curiosity. "They said you weren't born here... Were you a tree person?" That sounded funny to him but he thought that's what they called themselves. after all, if they were Sky People, that would make them Tree People-- which sounded like some kind of strange story. |

AI GADA KLIRNES IN Of course Nuala liked the necklace that Avery had given her, how could she not love it? It was so beautiful and Nuala knew she would be wearing it as often as she could, a gift from a skaikru friend. She had heard the whispers around, the gossip about them being all violent, more so than even Azgeda. It might have worried her at first but meeting people like Avery had only come to silence those worries. "I'm glad that the fishermen helped you," Nuala said, her smile still bright. She didn't think it was a bad thing at all that he had gotten help. He was much younger than she was and even she had needed help when making her own jewellery. The older people know more and Nuala enjoyed learning from them, especially those who were so kind and funny as Luna was.
Nuala listened with interest as Avery began to talk about the sky and didn't even flinch as he took the necklace from her and went to put it on. She trusted this boy and she thought he was adorable, with his dimpled smile. Listening, Nuala found herself very confused. How could they not have water or stones? Even in Azgeda, cold and harsh as it was, there had been a lake near her village and stones of different sort everywhere. "I think the stones are much better used for necklaces." Nuala was a big fan of jewellery and of anything that looked pretty. That was probably pretty obvious to anyone who took one look at her. "What pretty things did you have in the sky?" she asked, unable to help the curiosity she felt. How could she not ask?
Avery's question was fine, Nuala had to remind herself, even though she still struggled sometimes with mentions of Trikru and didn't like at all to be thought of as one of them. The peace, the safety, Nuala still struggled with some things. But she wasn't going to let that destroy this and she kept her smile on her face, because even with how harsh it had been, she was learning more and more to remember the happy things she had experienced growing up in Azgeda. "No, I'm from Azgeda. Ice Nation. It's cold and we get snow." Her face lit up at that memory. She hadn't seen snow in so long and it was definitely something pretty, although not anywhere as pretty as her new necklace. "Have you seen snow before?" |
