This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGThings were getting better, improving at a rate that made Harper begin to feel safe and comfortable in Arkadia. All of her physical pain from being drilled in Mount Weather was gone and her body had healed completely, able to now deal with long days of training and the new pains that came from that. Pain from training was something that Harper loved, however, as it was pain that showed how much progress she was making and told her that she was getting stronger and more able to protect herself. The mental scars from Mount Weather, well, Harper put any of that pain into her training. It pushed her to train harder and harder, knowing that the training would allow her to protect herself so she was never put into a position like Mount Weather again.
Mount Weather was a sore subject. A horrible one. Harper didn't want to be thinking too much about that now. Her heart was beating fast in a good way, an excitement glittering in her eyes. It was quite late at night, her training having finished a while before then. Everyone had headed straight to the Hangar for drinks and Harper wasn't the type to turn that down. After a while she had had to call it a night and decided she wanted to see if Monty was still up before she went to her own room to sleep. There was something she had been meaning to ask him and with her busy days of training, it felt like she never quite got the chance to go find him in the day. She felt like she hardly got to see him and that was something that she planned to change. It was no secret that Harper had grown feelings towards the guy.
Arriving at Monty's room, Harper rubbed at her eyes for a moment, making sure she was awake before she knocked lightly on the door. If Monty wasn't home she would find him tomorrow to ask him but she had been thinking that same thing for a couple of days now and she wanted to get the question out already. She wasn't the type to feel nervous about things like this, flirting, asking people out but the more she put off asking Monty on the date, the more nervous she found herself feeling. That was obvious with her heart beat in the moment, with the way she was chewing on the inside of her cheek. But as soon as the door opened and she saw Monty she knew she would feel a lot more at ease. Monty tended to do that to her and it was definitely one of the reasons feelings had grown for him. Monty Green || We'll have her asking him out and then time skip to the actual date! (: |

Monty had been sleeping, up until the point where knocking on his door had woken him. He'd grown to be a very light sleeper since arriving on earth, like most people he figured. He never used to be so easily woken, there was once a time when he could sleep through anything, but those days were fast behind him. "What?!" he called out, his voice groggy and thick with sleep as he tried to figure out where the knocking sound was coming from or if he'd just imagined it. It took a couple of minutes before he finally figured out that somebody was at the door, it was late... It had been late when he'd gone to bed, so he couldn't understand who would be at his door at that time. A thought suddenly hit him, had something happened? Was something wrong? Why else would somebody disturb him at such a late hour, it didn't happen often, he knew that much. Rolling out of bed, he hit the floor with a groan, knowing that, that was the only way to ensure that he'd actually leave his bed.
Pulling himself to his feet, he resisted the urge to drag his blankets with him and answer the door still cocooned in the blankets that would keep him warm, but he decided against it. Rubbing the sleep from his eyes, he stumbled towards the door, he was pretty sure that he looked like death, but nobody looked good when they had just woken up, especially when they'd been woken up in the middle of the night. As he reached the door, he pulled it open "What?" he asked the moment the door was open, until he was able to focus on who was actually at the door. "Harper?!" he asked, his brow furrowing in confusion as he lifted a hand to his mouth as he yawned, blinking the rest of the sleep from his eyes in an attempt to look more awake. "What is it? Is something wrong?" a flash of concern appeared on his face as he tried to read the expression on her face for any sign of bad news, that's the only type of news that came so late at night.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGAs Harper waited to see if Monty was awake or home and willing to answer the door, she brushed he fingers through her hair, getting out a couple knots and generally trying to neaten herself up a bit. She probably should have thought of that before, especially since she wanted to ask Monty out. Well, Harper knew that Monty wasn't the type to only care about looks but still, she cared and she found herself straightening out her clothes as well as her hair. Eventually Harper heard the sound of footsteps heading towards the door and while she wasn't the type to get nervous, all the waiting had definitely got to her and she tapped her toes inside of her shoes as she waited for the door to open. The fact that it had taken Monty so long to get to the door had her wondering if he had been busy or, well, sleeping. Harper was sure they hadn't stayed too late at the Hangar.
Maybe she was wrong though. As soon as Monty came into view, Harper knew that he had been sleeping. He looked dead. And definitely like a person who had just been asleep. It was either that Monty liked to sleep early or that it was way later than she had thought. She sort of hoped it wasn't the second but whatever it was, Harper just had to keep going now. She couldn't wake him up for nothing. "Nothing's wrong," Harper quickly confirmed, lifting her hands, palms out, and smiling at Monty before dropping her hands down again. "I guess it's later than I thought so you can go back to sleep if you want-" she decided it was best to give him the option if he wanted it "-but I wanted to talk to you, about something good." She wasn't going to ask him out right away. Not standing outside his door while he rubbed sleep out of his eyes. But she was going to ask him, definitely. The excitement over it was already running through her body.

Monty relaxed a little when Harper confirmed that she wasn't there because something bad had happened. It wasn't the answer that he'd been expecting, bad news seemed to be more common than good news these days and Monty figured that if somebody disturbed him when he was sleeping, bad news was more likely than good news. He was glad that he'd been mistaken in his assumptions this time but it did leave him wondering why Harper was at his door, he'd thought it was safe for him to sleep because he rarely got visitors after the sun had gone down. When Harper told him that he could go back to sleep if he wanted to, he shook his head and stepped aside so that she could enter the room. "No, I'm up now" he muttered in response to her words "come in" he invited her into his room as he raised a hand to his mouth to stifle a yawn.
She'd said that she had wanted to talk to him about something good, it had intrigued him and he wasn't going to send her away. If he'd learnt anything from his time on earth, it was that you had to grab the good things that were offered to you, no matter how small and insignificant those things might seem. "Sorry about the mess, I wasn't expecting anyone" Monty left his place by the door and crossed over to his bed as he pulled the blankets off of the floor and folded them neatly onto the bed as if attempting to hide the evidence that he'd just rolled out of bed despite his dishevelled appearance. He turned to smile at Harper before lowering himself to perch on the edge of the bed "What's up?" he asked her, curious about the reason for her visit.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGAs much as Harper would have respected his decision if Monty had decided to just go back to sleep, she was relieved when he shook his head at her, then stepped aside so she could walk inside. Her heart sped up at that and Harper couldn't quite work out what was causing that. As she had expected, her nerves had calmed to a great degree at the sight of Monty, especially a cute sleepy Monty. There were nerves...no, more worry over the fact that she had woken him but her heart had calmed and she had stopped chewing at the inside of her lip. But her heart was back up again, beating harder than normal. It was something to do with walking into his room then, whether that be the fact of seeing him so sleepy and going into his room this late or just because of the reason for her visit, she didn't know.
Whatever it was, it made the act seem more intimate and intimidating to Harper as she stepped inside and shut the door behind her. "Thanks," she told him. And she was thankful, as much as she was wondering about just how bad timed she had made this. What if he was so annoyed about being woken that he said no? Harper didn't actually think that would happen but the fact that she had been overthinking this decision was getting to her a bit. Days was too long of a wait for something like this, confidence always faded with time and Harper did better acting on things when they were fresh on her mind. But no matter what, Harper wasn't going to allow herself to even think about chickening out of this. Leaving this room she would either have plans for a date or disappointment. The question would not be on her mind any longer.
Harper took a couple steps further in the apartment, watching Monty as he went over to the bed and neatened up the blankets. It was easy to see that he had just gotten out of bed and there was question that she had woken him. "Sorry about waking you." There was sincerity in her voice at least, she hadn't meant to do that and hadn't realised people would be asleep by now. But there was good in this, she was enjoying seeing the dishevelled state of Monty, something that she didn't really get to see. Something a part of her hoped she would get to see a lot in the future. "I was wondering..." Harper trailed off her words. No, that sounds like you're asking him for a favour. Clearing her throat, she tried again. "Did you want to go on a date? I like spending time with you." She was straightforward with her words and while her tone sounded confident enough, there was a feeling of awkwardness in her, especially at the words she had decided to use. Monty stared at Harper as she entered the room and closed the door behind her. The more he thought about it, there more something seemed off about her, he knew that she had said that nothing was wrong, but it was the way that she was acting that set off alarm bells in his head. Someone who had something good to say wouldn't be acting this nervous and because of this, it made him nervous as he tried to figure out what was wrong. Maybe something had happened to Jasper, he wasn't exactly in great shape these days, or maybe he'd upset her in some way, he didn't know how but he knew that he'd be devastated if he'd somehow managed to offend her. "Are you sure there's nothing wrong?" he ventured, confused as to why the young woman would be acting the way she was if she genuinely had something good to share with him "you're acting really weird" when people acted weird, it usually meant something bad was going to happen or that something was wrong.
When she apologised for waking him, Monty shrugged his shoulders dismissively "I shouldn't have been sleeping anyway" he muttered, although he had been tired, it was a little early for him to be heading to bed. "I'm glad I managed to get out of bed at all when you knocked" being woken wasn't his favourite thing in the world, especially not when he was having such a great sleep. He could tell that she felt guilty about waking him and he wanted to tell her that she didn't have to be but then a yawn sent that thought far from his mind as he lifted a hand to cover his mouth as he yawned. 'I was wondering...' Harper's words set him on edge, she wanted to ask something of him. He was more than willing to do her a favour, if she needed help with something then he'd do his best to rise to the challenge of doing what she asked, he just didn't know why it couldn't wait until morning. 'Did you want to go on a date? I like spending time with you' now that was unexpected, Monty had definitely not expected that. He'd come up with a whole host of ideas of what she could want and she wanted to ask him out on a date?!
"I really like spending time with me too- You! Spending time with you too!" he blurted, stumbling over his words as he realised his mistake and tried to fix it. He hadn't seen this coming, he really liked Harper, but he never imagined that she would actually like him back, not when there were a million other guys that she would probably rather be with... Well, not millions, a couple hundred maybe. Getting to his feet again, he took a couple of steps towards her, biting his lip as he tried to think of the right words to say "I'd love to go... Go on a date with you..." he tried to speak slowly, taking his time to talk this time so that he didn't make a fool out of himself. "I mean... If that's really what you want, I mean... I'd like to go on a date with you but if you change your mind it wouldn't matter, not that I think you're going to change your mind or anything" he started rambling, unsure of where he was actually going with that thought and eventually he just trailed off. Watching her as he brought a hand up and ran it through his hair nervously "What I'm trying to say is that I would love to go on a date with you, sorry" sorry that he'd made such an idiot of himself, that's what he was sorry for, she probably was regretting even asking him now. Well done Monty, real smooth.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGThe nerves that Harper felt must have really been obvious and that wasn't good at all. Monty yet again asked her if something was wrong, this time adding on that she was acting weird. That was great, she thought, he was going to be in an even worse mood now when she asked him out. The fact that she was now worrying about that was probably doing nothing to help the fact, only adding to her already obvious nervous behaviour. Oh well, Harper couldn't really find enough strength in her to hide those nerves and he had already seen enough of them so there wouldn't be much point in doing that, it would just look more obvious and fake. It would likely only leave Monty worrying more. As long as it didn't drastically affect the way he replied to her question, that was all that really mattered. It would make sense to him why she was feeling nervous once she asked it.
At Monty's dismissive words at her apology for waking him, Harper found herself smiling in an amused way. No, he definitely should have been waking. Harper had pretty much come to the conclusion that it was way later than she had thought at first, and that wasn't a weird thing. Time spent in the Hangar could move a lot faster than you thought it was. It would be a lie to say that Harper hadn't spent a whole night there before, shocked when she noticed that the sun was rising again. Those times, she obviously didn't make it to morning training. It was a good thing that Monty was getting to bed early and getting sleep, really. "Sleep's a good thing," Harper said with a shrug of her own. "And I'm glad you got out of bed, too." Although maybe she wasn't. If he hadn't answered the door, Harper would have went back to her room and tried to ask him out tomorrow. That might have been the better plan.
When she asked the question she had meant to, there was a short moment where even the air felt like it has stilled while she waited and then Monty blurted out a reply. The smile on Harper's face on grew at his words, understanding what he meant to say even when he stumbled over them and managed to say the wrong thing at first. She stopped short at laughing while he corrected himself but there was definitely a glitter in her eyes that suggested he wanted to laugh. "I'm happy to hear that." And he spoke more, telling her that he would love to go on a date with her and lifting the weight of that question off of Harper in the process. All the worry that had built in those couple of days was gone with a few words. Nothing would be able to wipe the smile off of Harper's face now.
This time as Monty stumbled over more words, rambling a bit, Harper did laugh. It was a soft sound, quiet and not meaning to be rude in any way. It was honestly really cute to hear Monty rambling like that, and stumbling over his words, and seeming just as nervous as she had felt when she asked him the question. Him doing that told her that he likely felt the same about her that she felt for him, that he also held those growing feelings. Or, at the very least, he held some sort of interest in her. The laughter faded into an affectionate smile and a small step closer towards him. "I'm really happy to hear that," she said, knowing she was just repeating her earlier words. For a moment she became really aware of her arms and wondered where she should be holding her hands but quickly realised that was being a little bit too... stupid. "Um, did you want to..." Harper suddenly realised she hadn't thought of what they could do for a date. "Get dinner?" It wasn't the most original of ideas but it was something. |

Sleep was a good thing, that was something that he could agree with her on. He didn't feel like he got enough of it sometimes, especially when he had to wake early like everybody else, but nobody really got to sleep in anymore. He was happy to hear that she was pleased that he'd gotten out of bed, if he had missed her then he probably would've felt guilty in the morning if she'd tried to speak to him about it. Monty wasn't as irritable as he would usually be if he'd been woken up by anyone else, he couldn't be mad at Harper, not when she stood in his room looking so nervous and unsure of herself. Bringing promises of good news despite her body language telling him that the only thing she'd brought with her was bad news.
He noticed the smile on her face after he'd admitted that he wanted to go on a date with her, he was happy that his answer pleased her and his happiness only grew when he realised what her question really meant. He'd never thought that Harper had feelings for him, not those type of feelings at least, maybe he was blind or maybe she was just really good at hiding her feelings. He wished that he'd picked up on it before, maybe then he wouldn't have stumbled over his words and made a fool of himself in front of her when she'd eventually asked him out. 'I'm happy to hear that' he took that as confirmation that she wasn't messing with him and she genuinely had interest in asking him out. He would've asked her first, but he hadn't even known that she'd been interested in him and dating wasn't exactly the first thing on his mind at that moment. That wasn't to say that he didn't want to go on a date with her, if he didn't want to then he would've turned her down.
Monty was glad that his rambling hadn't scared her away, he really was terrible with these things. Which was probably one of the reasons why he hadn't asked her out, even when he knew that he had feelings beyond friendship for her. "You're laughing at me?" he asked, after picking up the sound of her soft laughter. It wasn't an accusation or meant to sound like she'd hurt him, because her laughter hadn't offended him at all. He understood that she wasn't trying to be harsh with it and was aware that his stuttering was kind of amusing, if he wasn't so nervous, then he'd probably be laughing too. There was a smile on his face though, one that he couldn't seem to banish "dinner?" he asked her, unsure for a moment. She was asking him, but truthfully he didn't mind where they went or what they did, he would just be happy to be in her company. "We could definitely do dinner" people ate, that was what people did and if that's what she wanted to do then he wouldn't argue.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper's mind was in overdrive, excitement running through her at the fact that her question had been answered positively. Monty wanted to go on a date with her and Harper felt like she was the luckiest person on Earth in that moment. Who knew, maybe she was the happiest person on Earth. Earth wasn't the happiest of places and most people seemed to be going through some sort of pain at any time. Harper knew that this was probably a rare moment of happiness but she was pretty darn sick of all the unhappiness and all the pain and she wanted to take advantage of the peace while they had it. Training for whatever could happen was great but going on a date with a guy who was sweet and caring and attractive, that was the best thing Harper could imagine.
At Monty's question about her laughter, Harper smiled brighter at him, knowing that was nothing negative in his tone. There was hardly ever anything negative in his tone, he was one of the most positive people that Harper knew and that was definitely one of the things that she liked about him and one of many reasons she had come to want to ask him out. "Just a little," she teased him, shaking off the last of the nerves she had held. Her dinner idea seemed to surprise him a bit but honestly, Harper was getting the impression that this whole thing was a surprise to him. Harper had never intentionally tried to hide her growing feelings from Monty, she wasn't the type to do that. Since Mount Weather, Harper had tried her best to spend as much time as she could around the guy and had felt her happiest at those times. Maybe the ways she showed her feelings weren't too obvious, though.
He confirmed that they could do dinner and she was glad, really unsure about what else they could do. She guessed she could think of something nice and romantic if she tried but that could be for a second date -- if she was lucky enough to get a second date with him, that was. As far as he had taken notice, Monty enjoyed spending time with her as well, so she hoped the date would run just as smoothly as any other time they spent together. "Great," Harper said, her smile growing more, probably looking stupidly big by then. "Tonight? At the Hangar?" There wasn't really much choice for where they could go to have dinner but she still asked, in case Monty had any other ideas. The only thing Harper had to worry about was whether she would get out of training early enough to shower and maybe, just maybe, find something nice to wear for the date. She didn't have anything too nice but she wondered if others did. The supply runs to Mount Weather should have brought back clothing, she assumed. |

Monty was happy just to see Harper smiling, he was happy that he could make her smile, especially when he could still remember times when it seemed impossible to even get the smallest of smiles from her. He hoped that he could continue to make her smile and that he didn’t somehow manage to ruin their date, he doubted that he could mess up that badly but it was still a concern. He was excited that she’d actually asked him out because he really liked Harper, he’d liked her for a while, he just hadn’t known that she’d liked him back, maybe if he had then he might’ve asked her out first. Monty didn’t have much experience with dating, on the ark he was always with Jasper and he was always too distracted to notice anyone that he might have interest in and then when they were sent to earth, dating was the last thing on his mind when there were so many other things to worry about.
He didn't mind her laughing at him, even he could see how people would find his reaction funny, if he wasn't so surprised that she'd actually come to his room to ask him out he might have found it funny as well. At least she was genuinely laughing, it was more than he got when he tried to make a joke. "Tonight? The Hangar, sounds good" he confirmed as she asked him for confirmation about the time and place they should meet. Of course there was more for him to worry about than just the location of their date, what would he wear? What if he underdressed? That seemed to be a likely possibility, he didn't have anything to wear that he thought was good enough for a date with Harper and although he was sure that she wouldn't care what he wore, he wanted to make an effort.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGThe time and place of the date was confirmed. It wasn't just an idea now, it was something set and it was happening tonight. Well, maybe tomorrow night, Harper wasn't really sure just how late it was but she knew that both her and Monty understood what they meant. "Great," Harper said again, her smile unwavering as she stayed looking at Monty. For a moment, she paused, about to tell him goodnight, to leave him be. Instead, she stepped forward, wrapping her arms around him and pulling him to her in a hug. Hugging Monty wasn't something that was new to Harper but it felt so much warmer and better with the excitement running through her body. As she pulled away from the hug she said, "I can't wait. I'll let you get some sleep and I'll see you toni--or tomorrow, you know what I mean." She giggled, her smile not fading as she made her way back to her own apartment.
It was a lot more difficult to sleep than it normally was but when she did fall asleep, the joy over her coming date kept away any nightmares. During training the next day, Harper asked around to see if she could get her hands on something nice, specifically, a dress. Dresses weren't easy to find on Earth and the only time Harper had worn one since being sent down to the ground was in Mount Weather. Dresses weren't something she would particularly want to wear often but she did want to put in the effort to look nice for Monty. She was lucky, managing to find someone who had a dress and finding it fit her well enough. Her body had changed since arriving on Earth, grown stronger and more muscular although that hadn't managed to change her size that much. The muscles still kept with her thinner frame.
She had, thankfully, enough time after training to shower and to get changed into the dress. It was blue, simple, and like most of the clothes around, old and worn. Still, it was so much nicer than anything she owned. A smile had hardly left her lips since she asked Monty out and it was still strong as she made her way to The Hangar. When she arrived, she looked around, not able to find Monty anywhere. She had arrived first, so she waited near the entrance, smile still on her face and glancing around the place looking for the best place to sit. A hand was run through her hair, making sure no knots had formed and at the sound of footsteps, she turned her head to see Monty walking in her direction. "Hey," she said, greeting him as he was closer to her. Harper would be lying to say she wasn't feeling any nerves, but they were hardly anything and her smile was the only thing etched into her face. |

Monty was expecting Harper to leave then, he wasn't expecting her to step forwards and hug him, although he shouldn't have been surprised by it. As she hugged him, he wrapped his arms around her, accepting the hug but allowed her to slip easily out of it once she pulled away from him again. "I'll see you then" he agreed, he knew exactly what she meant and he let out a chuckle as she left his apartment. One of the thing she'd said before she'd left was that she would allow him to get some sleep and he fully intended to take advantage of that. Nerves about their date could wait, at that moment all he wanted to do was sleep, especially after being woken up, even if the reason for Harper waking him had been good enough for Monty to overlook it. Trudging back over to his bed, he pulled back the blankets and collapsed onto it, once again cocooning himself in the blankets, grateful for the warmth that they provided him with. It wasn't as easy as he'd originally anticipated to fall asleep after Harper's visit, his mind was a hive of activity but eventually he grew tired enough finally fall asleep again.
The next day, Monty was definitely worried about what he would wear, nothing that he wore on a day to day basis seemed to be good enough to wear on their date. He didn't want to just show up in anything, especially since it was Harper, he really liked her and he didn't want her thinking that he didn't want to make the effort for her. He ended up rummaging through the clothes that he did have, finding a button down shirt at the very bottom of the closet where he kept his clothes. It was a pale blue in colour and he recognised it as one of the shirts that he'd worn in Mount Weather, originally he'd thrown it aside, not knowing how comfortable he was with wearing clothing from that place after he'd helped to destroy it, but eventually he'd come back to it, finding that it was the only thing that was suitable. Most of his clothing was ripped in places and the shirt was one of the only things that still looked relatively clean and well kept, at least compared to the rest of his clothing, probably because of his reluctance to wear it. He found his cleanest, least torn pair of pants so that he could at least look somewhat presentable, although he was sure that he'd get there and discover that they were riddled with tears and stains, they looked fine to him at that moment but he didn't have the time to waste searching for tears in his clothing.
Monty managed to find the time to shower and change before their date but somehow still managed to be running a bit later than he would have liked. He quickly ran a hand through his hair as a substitute for brushing it and was thankful that his hair wasn't sticking up all over the place and looked relatively neat. Leaving his apartment, he set off at a brisk walk towards the hangar, when he got there he could see Harper already standing up ahead and instantly became worried that he was later than he'd thought. When she turned to see him and he saw the smile on her face, he was relieved that she didn't appear mad at him for keeping her waiting "hey, you haven't been waiting long, have you?" he asked, trying not to appear too worried about the answer that she might give.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGIt surprised Harper to see the clothes that Monty was wearing, the button up shirt and the pants that looked less worn than other pairs she often saw him wearing. They were nice clothes and to see that he had put that effort in made her even more excited for their date--if that was possibell--and even more glad that she had asked him out. Him putting in that effort showed that he cared about it. Harper wanted to go on a date with someone who cared about it, not just someone who said yes because they were being polite. She ran her hand through her hair to make sure it was still neat. "I haven't been waiting long," Harper said, assuring Monty that he wasn't too late. They hadn't specifically said a time they would meet, only that they would meet for dinner, so she wasn't annoyed about having arrived earlier than Monty.
Even if she had waited a while for him, she was sure she still wouldn't be annoyed. He had obviously spent that extra time making sure he looked nice. "You look nice." Smooth, Harper. And there was the typical thought of what if he thinks I don't think he looks nice normally? Harper wasn't even going to go there, it wasn't worth it. She just kept smiling and clasped her hands in front of her. Of all the times to feel plain awkward, it had to be now, on a date. It wasn't like this was Harper's first date ever but she felt just as so. Maybe dates were something that didn't tend to get easier. She could act cool but under the surface, she wasn't feeling that. "So, should we grab some food and sit?" she suggested, offering her hand to Monty. No matter any silly nerves, Harper could do this. It was a date, not a fight, and she had nothing to worry about.

Monty felt as if he could breathe again when she told him that she hadn’t been waiting too long for him to arrive. He would hate for her to think that he didn’t care enough to show up on time or that he didn’t actually want to be there. Because he did want to be there, he was excited because he definitely hadn’t had the courage to ask her out so it had been a big relief for him when she’d showed up at his door and asked him out, even if she had woken him up. “Good, that’s good” he muttered in response to her words, glad that he hadn’t managed to make himself look like a complete idiot in the first couple of minutes. When she complimented his appearance, Monty smiled “thanks… You look nice too” he answered, returning the compliment and keeping it simple as he knew that if he spoke too much, the chances of him rambling and screwing everything up were much higher.
He knew that he shouldn’t be as nervous about the date as he was, he knew Harper, she was his friend and definitely not somebody that he should be scared of. Unless he managed to piss her off, because he was about ninety percent sure that she could kill him if she wanted to… When she suggested that they grab some food and sit, Monty nodded his agreement to the suggestion “sure, food and sitting are two of my favourite things” it came out before he could stop it and he cringed, like that didn’t sound stupid. He glanced down at her hand when she offered it to him and subtly wiped his hand along the inside of his shirt, making sure that his palm wouldn’t feel sweaty when he took her hand. When he was satisfied, he reached for her hand and hoped that his palms would not betray how nervous he was.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGThe smile that Monty gave in response the silly compliment, it was perfect. Saying that, it was always perfect when Monty smiled. Harper really liked his smile and the way his eyes lit up, the joy seeming to radiate from his face. Harper's own joy grew as Monty complimented her back. Even knowing it was the same compliment Harper had felt to be silly coming from her own mouth, it sounded perfect and heartfelt coming from Monty's. Her mouth curved more into a smile, if it were even really possible, her eyes glancing down at the ground for a moment before they settled back on Monty's face. "Thanks," she said, hoping the word sounded as meaningful as she meant it to. It mattered way more than it should have. Harper hadn't been on a date in so long, she had forgotten just how nerve-racking it felt, especially when the other person was feeling nervous too.
Harper could do better than she was doing. She wasn't one to get so nervous. She could shoot a gun and that hardly made her nervous anymore. Monty talking definitely helped. "I think you'll really like this date." With Monty's hand in hers, Harper felt a jolt of confidence, one that had her squeezing his hand lightly and leading him over to where food was being served. She knew that once they got their food they would probably have to separate but for now, she soaked in the feeling of his warm skin against hers. The skin of her hand felt alive and the last thing she wanted was to let go, even if his hands were a bit sweaty. "We'll grab one of your favourite things now so we can go do your other favourite thing," she said, teasing Monty with a glitter in her eye. Once she had her food, and Monty had his, she picked a table to sit at and walked over to it with her hand still in Monty's, unwanting to let go just yet. Monty Green || Here's some cute Harty that hopefully isn't as a rambling as it feels. |
