Macallan couldn't stop smiling! Weddings were such a happy occasion and this was the first one he had ever played at. He had even wrote specific songs for this celebration, playing them both on his piano and on the guitar. The latter however, was a bit of a duo for one of the songs. He had made Jasper his own guitar, engraved with his former lover's name on it. He'd wanted something special for him, ever since their first . . . or well, second encounter. The second one had gone much better than the first. And since then, he had grown close to the guy. Very close. So tonight, he had wanted to do something special with him. He had after all asked him to come to the wedding with him . . . as a date. Wasn't like Macallan did this often so when Jasper had accepted, he'd been elated. And that high hadn't worn off. Not yet anyway. The drink or two that he had didn't help.
Taking a break from his playing, he decided to take the opportunity to ask Jasper how he felt about his performance with him. Macallan thought he did well! He was proud to be teaching him what he could, but it was really Jasper's efforts that the really credit went to. "Hey!" He greeted Jasper with a broad smiling. "Great job on the song!" He further praised. "How did it feel?" He always loved hearing how other people felt while singing or playing music. To Macallan, it went soul deep. He loved to know what Jasper's own thoughts and emotions were on it.

Jasper had spent most of the reception without his date, since his date was playing the music. He'd kept himself busy talking to other people, but he was eager for Jay to be done for the night. They'd been hanging out a few months now, after Jasper had approached him for the second time and decided to use his words instead of tackling him. They somehow hit it off, and he'd opened up to Jay about Maya. Which set off a friendship between the two that had turned into something much more. Jay had kept his mind occupied, teaching him guitar and helping him write a song for Maya. And after a while, he's surprised him with his own guitar, Maya's name engraved on it. He knew he'd been starting to get little inklings of feelings for Jay that went beyond friendship, and he felt like Jay felt the same way, but that guitar made it seem okay. He'd engraved Maya's name on it. It mean he wasn't and never would try to replace Maya or diminish what she had meant to Jasper.
They hadn't really talked about their growing feelings for each other, Jasper feeling more gunshy than he had been months ago, before Maya, but when Jay asked him to go to Bellamy's wedding not just as Bellamy's friend but as his date, he couldn't have accepted any faster. Jay had even given him a simple accompaniment for one of his songs, which had been amazing to play with him. When Jay took a break from his playing to come over to where Jasper was sitting, Jasper rolled his eyes slightly at the compliment of doing well, though he was grinning anyway. He had done well, but what he played had been so simple. He couldn't wait until he could really keep up with Jay.
He reached up for Jay's hand, tugging him down to the seat next to his. "It felt... awesome," he said, running his thumb over Jay's. It felt good to touch him. It wasn't s thought they'd never touched before; they'd gotten comfortable touching casually as Jay instructed him how to use his clumsy fingers on the guitar. But now it felt more intimate. "Felt good to be able to contribute," he added, looking over at the happy couple across the room. After a moment, he looked back at Jay. "I'd ask you to dance, but the music seems to have mysteriously stopped." Jasper still struggled sometimes. He wasn't cured of anything. He knew if this relationship went anywhere, there would be nights in the future where Jay would witness him thrashing awake from nightmares, or trying to ride out the sudden bouts of anxiety that still hit him from nowhere (which were often helped by playing his guitar). But things were easier now, and this was the first time in a long time the entire camp had something to celebrate. Jasper was going to enjoy it as much as he could.

Macallan's smile widened when Jasper took his hand and pulled him to sit down next to him. The gentle caress on his hand kept his expression in place, and made his heart flutter with emotions. He knew that Jasper hadn't been ready to start anything and Macallan was more than willing to be patient. But this date tonight was certainly a good first step. He looked at Jasper as he explained that it felt awesome, his hand turning so that his fingers could brush against Jasper's in return. "I know what you mean," Macallan said. Though, he didn't know the grooms that well, he knew Jasper was friends with at least one of them.
"It looks like Arkadia needed this. Something happy to uplift everyones spirits." Not a funeral or memorial, but something more positive. Something that Macallan could finally be inspired to write more . . . happy songs for. Rather than requests to help people drown in their sorrows. Macallan laughed when Jasper spoke of dancing, though the music had seemed to stop. "There's a reason I provide the music rather than try to dance to it." Because he wasn't the best dancer, and well, he wanted to impress Jasper on their date. "Do you like to dance?" Macallan asked, wanting to get to know Jasper as much as he could. If he really wanted to . . . Macallan supposed he could make an exception. They didn't necessarily need music to find their rhythm.

The way Jay turned his hand so that his fingers could brush Jasper's too made Jasper's heart speed up just a little, and he had to remind himself that this was okay. Since accepting Jay's offer for tonight to be a date, he'd thought about it a lot. Maya would want him to move on, he thought. Not to forget her, or anything like that, but to let himself be happy again, to let himself find comfort with someone else. Jay definitely put Jasper more at ease than he was around most people. Many wounds had healed between him and his best friend and the other people that he'd been sent down here with over the last few months, but Jay was the first person outside that group he'd let in, and he didn't regret it.
He glanced around the room, as Jay said they all needed this, and nodded. "Something like this was way overdue, I think," he said. He smiled back at Jay when Jay laughed and said he provided the music so he didn't have to dance. "I can't remember the last time I danced," he admitted, when Jay asked if he'd liked to dance. It had probably been on the Ark at some party or another. But that hadn't been anything intimate, just goofing around. "I've never actually danced with a partner," he added, his grin going a little sheepish as he squeezed Jay's hand again.

Macallan's smile remained in place when Jasper agreed, adding that this was long overdue. "It was! And well, here's to hoping that it's not the only happy celebration to come. We need them more often." It seemed that things were finally settling down where war and fighting was concerned. Jay hoped for that. While he wasn't one of the people in the front lines of battle . . . it was just, sad, devastating even to keep burying their people. But tonight wasn't the time to dwell on such things. He was at a wedding, he had an amazing man as a date, and Macallan was going to enjoy that. The looked at Jasper with a playfully exaggerated expression of shock when the male admitted to not being able to remember when the last time he danced was . . . and that he had never danced with a partner.
"Never?!" Macallan repeated teasingly. He couldn't help but smile more when Jasper gave his hand a bit of a squeeze. "Well, we're gonna have to change that," Macallan decided. "If not tonight, then sometime in the near future." So that he didn't place any pressure on Jasper and . . . well, hoped that his words didn't do that either. Because they spoke of a next time; another time that they could be together. Out on a date, or doing something as intimate as dancing. "You should not only make the music but appreciate it in another way too," he pointed out, keeping the tease going, the desire of wanting to have Jasper do something with ease such as dancing.

Jasper laughed, his head tilting back a little at Jay's mock disbelief that he'd never danced with a partner. He may have had the term 'Casanova' thrown at him a couple times for his flirting, even Jay had said it when they'd first talked and Jasper told him about how he'd flirted with the guard who'd arrested him, but his flirting was very rarely successful. Still, Jay's next words were nice. And they spoke of a future time they could dance, which meant that at least he wasn't messing up this date.
"I should," he said. "We should." He wanted to be clear that they both should appreciate the music in more than just making it, and that he definitely wanted to dance with Jay. "I wish I had brought my iPod," he said. Maya's iPod. "We could each put in an earbud and dance." He laughed softly and glanced around the room. "We might look crazy, but I'm used to that," he teased.
