This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGAny sort of group work was something that Harper actually enjoyed in school. That wasn't to say that she didn't enjoy school, she did and sometimes found it to be a great escape from her home life but there was a particular element of fun that came with group work. It gave her an excuse to talk, and Harper could talk. So when the teacher announced that they would be working with partners for that day's chemistry class, Harper already found her eyes going to people she would want to partner with. Friends and people she knew to be good at the subject. The teacher announced that she would pick the partners and Harper didn't particularly like the chance that she could be working with someone who had no idea what they were doing - she was hoping for someone relatively good at the subject to make up for the fact that she had fallen behind.
The teacher then started calling out names, at what was probably random and Harper waited, glancing between the teacher and her tablet. Eventually the teacher called out Harper's name and followed it with Bryan's. A grin spread over Harper's face, not being one hundred percent sure just how good Bryan was at chemistry but definitely knowing that she would get some fun out of the lesson anyway. A friend was a lot better than a stranger. As the class stood up to rearrange where they were sitting, Harper walked over to Bryan and sat next to him. As she placed her tablet down on the table in front of her, Harper grinned at Bryan. "Couldn't of gotten a better partner, right?" She glanced up at the teacher, checking that she wasn't expecting them to be quiet yet. "At least I know you're definitely good at chemistry," she said as she looked back at Bryan, an obvious teasing tone to her voice.
@bryanbryanbryan || Finally got this starter done for you, J! Hope it's okay (: |

Bryan usually disliked being partnered up for school projects, or worse, put in groups of three or more. A lot of the time, it seemed like partners or group members slacked off, and Bryan would wind up doing the work, or trying to corral everyone into getting on the same page. It was like trying to herd cats. Or so the old expression went. As far as Bryan knew, there were no cats on the Ark.
He relaxed when his name was called after Harper's, though. He'd known Harper for a while, considered her a friend now, but he hadn't really started to get to know her well until he'd started dating Nate. She seemed to think their relationship was cute, and Bryan couldn't disagree. He grinned at her when she sat down with him. "You're mistaking me for Goggles," he said, glancing across the room at Jasper, who was talking excitedly with his less than enthused looking partner. He looked back at her. "Nah, I'm alright," he added. Chemistry wasn't really his strong suit, but it was something he needed to know for farming, so he did his work and got decent grades. "How about you? How do you feel about..." he trailed off as he looked at hiss tablet for what they were doing today. "Acid base reactions and pH levels?" he finished, lifting his brows at her.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper liked the smile she got from Bryan, it told her that he wasn't dreading having her as a partner for the lesson. There had definitely been times in the past where she had seen a mix of reactions, especially when the partner knew enough to know that Harper wasn't the most consistent of students and that she would likely not know much about what they were doing. Truthfully, she hadn't even payed too much attention to what they were going to be doing. She more focused on trying to pick some fun at Bryan, particularly on his relationship with Miller. He tended to take it well and it could be too easy to tease him sometimes. "You seem pretty good at it around Miller," she said, grinning at him.
She then looked down at her tablet, knowing that she likely had no idea about what they were supposed to be doing. If it was something they had been doing lately, well, Harper had missed a few more classes than she should have. For good reason, at least, she thought. Her parents had seemed happier lately, making her feel like she was managing to do the right thing. As she looked down at her tablet, her lips pursed together. There was a chance she knew something about it, probably. It looked pretty familiar to her and if she was lucky, it was something she hadn't missed too much of. Deciding that it didn't matter too much, she looked back up at Bryan with a smile on her face again. "Feel alright about it," she told him, "Nowhere as confident as Jas but that's why I have you, right?" @bryanbryanbryan |

Bryan actually snorted and rolled his eyes at her comment on him being good at chemistry with Nate, but fortunately managed not to blush. She had no idea. "Annnd it starts," he teased back, referring to her teasing. "That was bad," he added, still grinning.
He scrolled through the description of what they were supposed to do on his tablet. "Fortunately, we don't need too be Jasper-level good at this stuff. We just have to pass," he said absently as he read. He started too set up the vials and other things they'd be using, glancing up at her as he did. "What's going on with you? Anything new?"

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGWell, she definitely got a reaction from her tease. That was all she wanted. "Aaaand it's only just started," she told him, copying the way he had reacted to her tease. She grinned at him before putting her attention back on the tablet and what they needed to be doing. At least, thankfully, Bryan was right in saying that they all didn't need to be Jasper-level good at the subject and whatever they were doing to get through the class. Passing was the goal and while that didn't seem like the most difficult of goals to have, Harper had been feeling less and less confident of it with each class she missed and each one she didn't miss. Missing classes left her missing work and new things that she should of know - going to classes meant knowing just how far behind she had become. Both of the situations were bad, really.
It didn't matter, Bryan was from farm station. She knew enough to know that there was chemistry involved in farming. He would be pretty decent at it and hopefully wouldn't mind too much if he ended up doing the majority of the work for the lesson. Harper would try, that was why she was reading the notes and explanation of the experiment but... Maybe it wouldn't be too difficult. She watched Bryan set up the vials and other stuff and didn't move to interfere, just listened to his question and decided to focus on answering that. "Jas tried to flirt with me the other day," she said with a laugh, keeping her voice low to be sure that Jasper wouldn't hear her. She did find it funny that he had tried to flirt with her but he was also her friend and she didn't want him to feel hurt if he overheard her laughing about it. "At least Miller's flirting with you went better." @bryanbryanbryan || Sorry this took so long! Harper refused to let me reply here before now! |

Bryan only rolled his eyes when Harper hinted that she wasn't done teasing. Of course she wasn't, and Bryan didn't mind, really. It felt good to be with Nate. His life had been pretty damn boring before meeting his boyfriend. He mostly just did his work and passed under people's radars. Nate had shaken things up.
He snorted when she said Jasper flirted with her. Jasper was still several inches shorter than some of the girls (not that Bryan could talk!) but Bryan had to hand it to him, the other kid's enthusiasm and courage was impressive. He laughed again when she said Nate's flirting with him had been more successful. "Once I realized he was flirting, anyway," he jokes, glancing over toward their teacher to make sure they weren't being too load. Bryan had been a little oblivious to the fact Nate liked him at first. "About time Jasper flirted with you. I was wondering what was taking him so long," he teased. Jasper was a well-known flirt, and even if girls weren't his thing, Bryan knew Harper was pretty. He lowered his voice. "I hope you let him down easy."

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGThe amused reaction that Harper got from Bryan was definitely encouraging to her. That he saw the humor in Jasper asking her out and didn't think she was mean for laughing about it. Jasper was pretty well known for flirting with any girl that he could get near for long enough to speak, so it wasn't that out of the ordinary news to hear about him flirting with anyone - it was just funny that he had tried it with Harper. She wasn't interested in him, at least not enough to respond to his flirting, and her own laughter at the mention of it would have told Bryan that much. It was Bryan's own comment on Miller's flirting that was a lot more interesting though, and probably something else she could tease the couple about. They were absolutely adorabell and Harper couldn't help the friendly teasing.
She had also gotten a new friend in Bryan, she hadn't actually known him at all really until him and Miller had gotten together. There were a lot of reasons for her to love the couple. "How long did it take you to notice?" she asked with a grin, teasing but also curious because she was sure she didn't actually know the answer. Which she felt she have known. Just like Bryan knew Jasper was bound to flirt with Harper sooner or later. She laughed, maybe a little too loudly as she noticed someone at the desk near them glancing back at her. "Of course I did!" Shaking her head, Harper faked offense on her face. "I'm always polite at turning down boys," she told Bryan. Not that it was an overly regular occurrence, honestly. @bryanbryanbryan |

Bryan's smile widened into a grin as Harper pretended to be offended at his question, though he glanced around them again, noticing people looking their way. He made a face like they should keep it down, but then he went back to grinning. "You'd better be," he teased. "I don't care how tough they look, the male ego is a fragile thing."
He winked, then went back to setting up their experiment, starting to measure ingredients into a test tube, thinking back to her question. "Not terribly long," he admitted, and the laughed at the memory of Nate approaching him for homework help that first time they'd first spent time together. "But his smile was so huge when he walked up to me, I thought he was trying to prank me with his friends at first." He couldn't stop smiling at the memory, even as he worked on their experiment.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper laughed, quietly to make sure the teacher didn't bring their attention to her. "I'm sure Jasper's ego is fine," she said to Bryan, stealing a glance over in Jasper's direction as she did. She doubted that she had hurt his ego at all, really, since she had seen him ask out so many girls before. He had confidence and that wasn't going to change. it was something that Harper appreciated about him as his friend. Bryan, though. Bryan, when Harper had actually noticed him, had always given her the idea that he was shy and quiet, the complete opposite of Jasper's confidence. Getting to know him now, she knew she partially right about that but he was a lot less quiet than she had expected him to be and a lot more fun to talk to. He was also making no complaints that Harper wasn't putting too much help into the experiment they were doing.
Him doing the work was probably the best thing for their health, anyway. Who knew what could happen if things were messed up too much. The smile on Bryan's face when he spoke about Miller was absolutely adorabell. Honestly, it wouldn't surprise Harper to hear of Miller being part of a prank. If she thought about it, she would probably be able to track down a time when he had done something along with Jasper. Maybe multiple of them. She wouldn't have been happy with them if they had played a prank on Bryan though...well, if she had known Bryan much back then. Really, she hadn't known the guy back then. "So he was smiling as much as you are now?" she teased, her own face lit up with a smile. "He asked for homework help, yeah?" Harper had definitely heard their story before, at lights bits of it. "Wasn't the most obvious method of flirting." @bryanbryanbryan |
