Bellamy and Jackson were already in Polis on a peace mission with Kane. Things had been quiet between the clans and the Sky People since the City of Light fell, and Kane wanted to make sure it stayed that way. Abby hadn't been able to come, so Jackson had come in case things went south and one of their people required medical care. What they hadn't been expecting, however, was for the new leader of Trikru to be rushed into camp with radiation poisoning. She's apparently been on a mission with a few of her people and strayed into unsafe territory. Fortunately, enough of her people had better immunity than her so they were able to get her back to Polis, but they didn't have much time.
Trikru requested Jackson's help, as their healers didn't know how to deal with this problem. He didn't miss that Bellamy followed him into the room they had ushered their new leader into. Jackson explained how a transfusion worked to one of the warriors, who could translate to everyone else in the room as he tested the new leader's blood type. As the others understood what needed to be done, they stepped forward to be tested, somehow deciding to trust him in this moment... but none of them matched. Jackson knew Bellamy wasn't a match without testing him, and he wasn't willing to risk Bellamy anyway.
As he stared down at the young woman's burned body, he slowly realized... he was a match. And they didn't have much time. And letting the Trikru leader die probably wouldn't help with their peace plans.
He drew a deep breath and let it out, then glanced at Bellamy briefly, just long enough he knew he was speaking to him, before digging through his medical kit. "I need you to help me."

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT Nothing had changed in terms of Bellamy's distrust for the Grounders. He still did not trust them. After only ever being betrayed by them, coming at the cost of his people . . . well, Bellamy didn't hold out much hope that there would be peace. That was part of the reason he was going with Kane. That, and the fact that Jackson was going. The protectiveness she felt over his people, especially his partner, was enough for him to go. To need to go.
Knowing that if anything happened, he would never forgive himself for being absent. For failing them. They had reached the city safely, their journey uneventful. But what happened soon after arriving at Polis, made up for that. The Trikru leader was injured and Jackson was immediately set to work. Like hell Bellamy was going to leave him alone in a room full of grounders. So he had joined him, watching everything unfold before him.
It would seem that the grounder would need blood, and unfortunately, it did not appear as if anyone was a match. That was when Bellamy looked at Jackson, who had glanced on him. There was something on his face; an expression that made Bellamy feel like he wasn't going to like where this was going. But he didn't assume. Not yet. So when Jackson stated that he needed his help, Bellamy was going to act quite directly as to what that entailed. "What can I do?" He asked, wanting to be helpful.

Bellamy wasn't going to like this one bit. Hopefully he wouldn't outright deny Jackson's request for help. He might. Jackson started pulling out needles and IV tubing required to do the procedure, making sure the roller clamps were clamped as he searched for a good vein through the burns on the Grounder leader's skin. "Not much at first. I just need an extra set of hands," he said, finding a good vein.
"But I don't have anything to sedate myself with, and in a two to six hours, I'll probably be very sick. Nausea and vomiting, at a minimum," he explained. "That's when I'll really need your help." He found another good vein on the Grounder leaders other arm, securing the needle with tape once it was in, then finally looked at Bellamy and held out the tape. "Right now, I just need to to help me secure these needles after I get them in myself."

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy watched Jackson as he started taking out his supplies and then explaining what he was going to do. Confirming Bellamy's suspicions. The younger male didn't move to help him. Instead, he just watched him, his gaze hardly at ease realizing what Jackson was doing. Risking his life. Putting himself in harm's way to save another. Who knows what would happen with the transfusion; what would occur if their blood was mixed. They barely knew what was wrong with the damn leader. It could be more serious. And this, was just too reckless. "You're out of your damn mind," Bellamy stated bluntly, his disapproval of this plan hardly subtle.
In fact, it was abundantly clear. He took Jackson by the arm, pulling him a few steps away from where the patient was. "It's dangerous. You don't know what the hell can happen." He could make a prediction as a doctor, but it was too reckless for Bellamy's liking. "It's too risky," he added on, still hoping he could talk Jackson out of this . . . but something in his partner's gaze was making him fear otherwise. He could be just as stubborn as Bellamy, especially when it came to the readiness of putting your life in danger for another. But this was different. This was Jackson. And Bellamy could not even imagine something bad happening to him. Losing him.

"You're out of your damn mind." That was about the reaction Jackson expected. He hadn't expected to be pulled away from his patient, however. If Bellamy wasn't the man he loved, he might've pulled out of his grip, not wanting to look like his knowledge was being questioned, or worse that he was being scolded, in front of all of these people.
"Actually, I do know what can happen." He knew what radiation could do to the body. It would ionize atoms and molecules. It could alter his DNA. If he was being blunt, he might've told Bellamy that if he were to stop making sense at any point, Bellamy should just put a bullet in his head. But that wasn't exactly something that would make Bellamy thing he was any more sane. "I just don't know what will happen. Our bodies are more efficient at dealing with this stuff than hers. apparently. More than likely, I'll just be sick for a few days." He frowned at Bellamy, his expression willing him to understand. "I'm the only match. Do you really think they'll agree to peace if we let her die?"

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy listened, but was unconvinced. There was still a risk, something that Jackson hadn't disputed. More than likely, he would just be sick. But anything could happen. Anything was possible. And the risk was too much for Bellamy's own liking. He then further stated that he was the only match . . . questioning whether they would agree to peace if they let her down. That, was what triggered Bellamy's past bias with Grounders. The lack of gratitude the group of people constantly displayed. They had given in to the grounders with all their demands, with nothing in return. No army. No resources. Only what, the 'right' for them to live? Bellamy was tired of it. And he had lost too much from it.
"When does it end?" He asked in a quiet voice, ensuring to keep his volume low so that they would not be overheard. "We've given in to their demands too many times." And they suffered the consequences. Every single time. "We've lost too much." Because of it. Because of them. Bellamy's voice went lower still, hardly above a whisper heard only due to their close proximity. "I've lost too much," he added on. So many deaths. The initial 100 sent down. Gena. In a way, his own sister who become more violent due to their influence. Bellamy looked at Jackson with soft intent, hoping he saw the plea under his gaze. "I can't lose you too." Not because of this. Not because of them. Not in any possible way.

Jackson listened as Bellamy spoke, and he could see the pleading in Bellamy's expression. He understood. Bellamy still didn't trust the Grounders, and had lost a lot of people close to him recently because of them. But Jackson wasn't able to lose hope for peace. For everyone, but mostly for Bellamy. Bellamy deserved to not have to fight all the time. They deserved a life together. They had one already, but if peace could finally stick, it would be more time together and less worry. "You won't lose me," Jackson said. It wasn't a 100% certainly, but Jackson thought the odds were in his favor. "If there was enough radiation in her to kill me, she'd be dead already."
He held Bellamy's gaze, his expression sad but hoping Bellamy could see that he loved him and that he understood Bellamy's point... even if he planned to ignore it. "At the end of the day, that's still a young woman over there who's going too die if I don't hep her, and I'm still the same man who swore an oath to save people's lives." He drew a shaky breath, then did something he normally wouldn't do in front of a bunch of strangers. He leaned in and brushed his lips with Bellamy's.
He parted them gently, but didn't kiss Bellamy deeply. Just a taste. If he died, he wanted to kiss Bellamy one last time. If he only got sick, it would be their last kiss for a least a few days. "I love you," he whispered. "But I'm doing this."

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT You won't lose me. Bellamy had heard that, felt that, believed that, all too many times. Too many people died. And if Jackson died now, because Bellamy hadn't tried harder to stop him. Bellamy couldn't accept it. He wouldn't agree with it. When he had promised Jackson he would be more careful, here was Jackson putting his life in danger to save someone. The circumstances were different; the prinicple the same. He didn't have a chance to verbally respond though, because what Jackson did caused Bellamy to still. He closed his eyes when the light brush of his lips was against his mouth.
They didn't often display their affections in public, and the fact that he did now . . . well, it both made Bellamy's heart swell with love and fear. Love, because hearing Jackson say the words, were completely mutual on Bellamy's part. And fear, because if he was kissing him as such . . . then it reinforced the fact that this was indeed risky. That it was dangerous. That he could die. Bellamy slowly opened his eyes when Jackson pulled away, stubbornly telling him that he was going to do it.
Bellamy was fully aware he could use force to stop him, but that was not the kind of relationship he wanted with Jackson. It didn't mean that his decision now didn't hurt. "Then get it over with," he said bluntly, continued disapproval in his voice. He was fully aware that this was part of what made Jackson the man he loved . . . but the mere thought of losing him was just so damn terrifying. He'd lost everyone else and Jackson was quite literally all he had left in the world. So he wouldn't return the words of love.
He would say them to him afterwards, because his mind couldn't even process being with Jackson. "What should I do?" He asked, keeping the conversation focused on the task. Otherwise, Bellamy knew his emotions would get the better of him. Then again, they technically had considering his blunt tone and refusal to support this idea. Still. He wasn't going to just be idle or storm off. Jackson had said earlier that he needed his help. He would do whatever he could to make her his partner was alright. And got out of this alive and well.

Jackson felt Bellamy still when they kissed, but when Bellamy didn't return his words, Jackson blinked at Bellamy a couple of times, feeling stung. He'd kissed Bellamy in front of these people, wanting to have a moment. Just in case. And Bellamy's response was a blunt, disapproving order for Jackson to get it over with. He was sure he looked like he'd been slapped for a brief moment, at least to Bellamy who knew him better than anyone, but he shook himself after a few seconds, and turned to walk back over to the patient.
He picked the needles and tape back up, handing the tape over to Bellamy without looking at him. "I just need you to secure these once they're in," he said, his voice lower. People who didn't know him probably wouldn't pick up on it, but Bellamy could probably hear the slight note of anger mixed with defeat. He couldn't win. He had to save this girl, and Bellamy was pissed at him now, not even willing to say he loved him. What if Jackson did die knowing his last 'I love you' wasn't returned? How would guilt eat at Bellamy for not saying those words back if he was gone?
Jackson pushed on anyway, finding his own vein, sticking himself and holding it in place for Bellamy to secure it before moving to the next arm. Once that one was in and secure, he unclamped the roller clamps around the tubing and watched the Grounder's blood flow into him, as his flowed into hers. "I should probably sit, if there's a chair, or lie down if there's another table," he said, without looking at Bellamy. He couldn't yet. "And eventually a bucket is going to be necessary."

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was not oblivious to the expression on Jackson's face. Nor was he going to amend his words. He was hurt. And feared losing someone else to Grounders. Or losing someone else because of his failure to protect them. This could go either way and the kiss and vocalization of love, was a reminder of that. Bellamy complied to Jackson, knowing that he didn't have any other choice. His partner was doing this regardless. Though Bellamy couldn't help but thinking but assisting him, he could be helping him die. Needing to focus on the matter at hand. Bellamy avoided eye contact with Jackson, aware of his tone. Aware that if when he got out of this, they were going to need to have a talk. But right now, all that he could feel was the fear.
His heart practically racing in his chest. The only thing that kept him composed and stoic in this moment, was the lifelong practice he'd received on the Ark. Having to live with crippling fear every day when protecting Octavia and his mother, but showing no sign of it as that would give him away. The practice came in handy now, when faced with that similar crippling fear of losing someone he loved. But having to stay calm in the wake of the situation. When the needle was in, Bellamy wrapped the tape around it, making sure it was tight enough to hold in place.
Bellamy watched the exchange of blood, unable to keep his gaze on it while it passed into each of them. The distraction of a chair allowed him to focus on something else. Though hardly. He glanced around the room, seeing a stool that would have to do, as he had no intention of leaving the area. He pulled it over to where Jackson stood, his hand moving to his upper arm to help him sit and avoid the insertion to jostle too much.
His arm moved to wrap around Jackson from behind, to give him some support should his body not have the strength to stay sitting up. Considering there was no table here to lie him back on either. "Lean back if you need to," he told him, positioning himself behind his partner securely. "How long will this take?" He questioned, wanting to know the time frame. He hated this. He hated every second of it and the sooner it was over, the sooner they could deal with the potentially unknown consequences. He'd get a bucket later. Right now, he just felt the need to remain close to Jackson.

Jackson let Bellamy guide him to a stool, and then Bellamy moved behind him, wrapping his arms around him from behind. Jackson's instinct to rest back against Bellamy was strong, wanting to feel that comfort right now as anger and defeat started to slowly give way to fear. It only takes about a minute for blood to circulate through the human body once. In two minutes, he'd have had a large dose of radiation sweep through his body. He closed his eyes, keeping his breath steady as he sat, the backs of his wrists on his knees to keep his inner arms where the needles were steady.
"I'm not sure," he answered honestly. "Until she gets better." Jackson expected that to take hours. Most of the Grounders shuffled out of the room, except for a couple, but the next couple of hours were strangely silent. Bellamy didn't speak. Jackson didn't either, aside from when the Grounders with them asked questions. Jackson was starting to feel uncomfortable, a little sick, but he didn't say anything. He just let himself finally lean against Bellamy a little, his breathing increasing a little as the fear started to creep in more.
The Grounder leader was starting to look healthy again, and when she stirred on the table, Jackson thought it was safe to disconnect himself from her. He started to move to get up when a wave of nausea hit him and instead of standing, he slumped back against Bellamy harder than before, a noise of discomfort coming out of him. "Need that bucket now," he managed, but then lurched to the side and puked on the floor.

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy's jaw clenched at the sight. Jackson's answer not proving to be any more reassuring either. With all the risks that Jackson was taking, the Grounders wouldn't even be grateful. They never were. And if Jackson died because of this . . . then it would only give the younger male more cause to be angry with them. How much more did they have to sacrifice to this group of people before they fully established peace? A mutual kind. Though Bellamy's current thoughts was not rested on politics. He was far more concerned with his partner. With making sure he remained alive and healthy. That he recovered swiftly. That this would not have any long term consequences. The time passed in silence for the most part. Bellamy wasn't sure what he could say in this moment. He could practically feel Jackson's energy leaving him, as he leaned against Bellamy.
Bellamy's eyes remained on the rise and fall of his chest, making sure he was still breathing, that he hadn't faded. One hand went to Jackson's head, running his fingers through his hair in what he hoped was a comforting and soothing manner. Just because they were at odds, didn't mean he would refuse any sort of physical comfort he could offer his lover in this moment. It felt like ages before the patient began to move. Relief that Jackson could stop flooded Bellamy as he watched Jackson remove the needle. He got up too quickly, Bellamy hovering hear him and able to give some support as Jackson fell back onto the stool. Before he could react though, Jackson spoke of needing a bucket, but Bellamy belatedly response cause him to puke on the floor instead. He quickly glanced around the room, finding nothing more than a bowl that he went to get and crouched down in front of Jackson, holding the bowl in front of his weakened partner's mouth so that he could vomit again if he needed to.
Bellamy's hand went to Jackson's cheek, noticing his pale complexion and trying to make sure his temperature was ok. "Just sit," he told him quietly. "Let me know if you still can't walk in a bit," he added on. Because if need be, Bellamy would carry him. His eyes glanced over at the grounders. "We need a room." Because Jackson needed to properly lie down and rest. With their immediate arrival before settling down anywhere, Bellamy didn't even know which quarters would be offered to them. Not that they needed more than one. Bellamy was not leaving Jackson alone. Not for a second.

Jackson leaned forward, bracing his elbows against his knees when Bellamy left him, afraid he'd fall off the stool otherwise. When Jackson said he'd need help after this was over, this was what he meant. And he knew, even if Bellamy was mad at him, Bellamy wouldn't let him suffer through this alone. He knew Bellamy would take care of him, no matter what. That was confirmed by the gentle hand on his cheek when Bellamy's returned with a bowl, telling him to sit.
"Can you pack up my kit?" he asked, hating how weak his voice sounded as he took the bowl from Bellamy. "I don't want to leave it." He looked over at the Grounder leader to see she was sitting up. Someone had removed the needles from her arms, and her people were tending to her. She was going to be okay. He looked back at Bellamy. He wasn't confused, which was a good sign. He just felt like it was hard to move, everything hurt, and his stomach felt like acid was sloshing in it. "This is going to get worse before it gets better, so the sooner we get me somewhere I can rest, the better." His tongue felt heavy and thick as he spoke but he was pretty sure that was just from exhaustion.

Tag: @severitysoftly whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy hated seeing Jackson like this. The color drained from his face, his weak voice and demeanour. Knowing what caused it, and knowing that they weren't out of the woods yet. The worry had not yet ceased. Things could get worse. A lot worse. As Jackson had just said. Bellamy gave a nod, slowly pulling his hand away and putting the bowl on Jackson's lap. He proceeded to collect his supplies, safely tucking them into Jackson's pack before Bellamy pulled the straps of each one over his shoulder, pushing them behind him so that they were against his back as best he could.
He was leaving this room with everything, only wanting to make one trip. Once everything was collected, one of the Grounders informed them that he would take them to their guest room. Bellamy walked back to Jackson, taking in the sight of his state. There was no way in hell he was going to be able to walk. Who knows how far the room is anyway. Bellamy didn't even feel the need to ask Jackson if he could move himself.
Offering him the support of his weight wasn't enough. So, that left only one other alternative. Putting the bowl aside for him, Bellamy wordlessly moved one arm under Jackson's legs, the other around his upper body to scoop him up into his arms. "Try to keep from throwing up until we get in the room." His voice held a slight tease to it, though with the previous tension, and current circumstances . . . the full joviality of the tease was missing. Once he had Jackson securely in his arms, he gave a nod to the Grounder and followed him to their room.

Jackson sucked in a breath when Bellamy effortlessly lifted him off the stool and into his arms. He didn't think anyone had picked him up since he was a child, but he was grateful for this now. He would have tried to walk, but fortunately Bellamy could see how weak he was and hadn't left that option open for Jackson to weakly argue about. He draped his arms around Bellamy's shoulders and let his head fall to Bellamy's shoulder. Bellamy's words might have been a joke in another context, and Jackson might have laughed or smiled. Instead Jackson just let out a small noise of discomfort and said, "I'll try to give better warning next time."
He wanted to cry. He knew part of it was that his defenses were down from being so sick, but... Bellamy was literally carrying him through Polis, and it made Jackson's heart ache. He pressed his forehead to Bellamy's neck, which felt cool. He was probably starting to get feverish. He swallowed hard against the churning of his stomach.
When they arrived in their room for the night. Bellamy gently lay Jackson on the bed, and Jackson didn't open his eyes and he rolled to his side and curled up. His head was starting to hurt a little. "I'm sorry," he whispered. He wasn't capable of having the conversation he knew they'd have about this, but he had to say the words. "I love you."
