This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGIt had been a couple weeks since Mount Weather. Harper's body had recovered by then and she felt healthy and strong, which was about the best she could say for herself. Her mind felt anything but strong. She had begun to do training - both organised training sessions that ran in Arkadia and extra sessions with whoever she could find. That helped to a degree, it made her feel as if she were working towards becoming strong. Once she was strong, she would never have to worry about what had happened in Mount Weather again because nothing like it would be able to happen again. Multiple times a day the memories ran through her head. Everything from being put on watch, to be dragged away and being drilled into as she screamed and cried for the doctor to stop. By this stage Harper was sure the flashbacks should have stopped but the only thing she could do now was put on a better mask and not let it slip onto her face when those memories were around.
Distraction also helped. Harper had been doing great at keeping herself distracted, in sadly a clean way. Her and Monty were growing closer and her emotions for him were growing but nothing had really happened between them. It left her in a position of craving intimacy and closeness and not being able to get it. There were other ways for her to stay distracted, however, and spending time with Monty, however innocent, was definitely one of those. Spending time with others from the original hundred was another one. Training helped, and to top it all off she had her new job as part of the guard. It was crazy, really, to go from being a delinquent likely to die on the Ark to being a part of the official Guard now on the ground. It should have told her that the people who mattered saw her as strong, but Harper tended to view the situation as Earth being dangerous and the important people needing as many guardsmen as possible.
Today, she had a new distraction. Maya had survived Mount Weather and while maybe the other girl should have caused Harper pain to look at, over the last few days Harper had come across her multiple times and found that they actually got along quite well. They had made plans to go out into the woods today and Harper was happy for the active distraction that it gave. Harper had been taught skills in gathering during her time at the Dropship and now she was going to teach Maya. An almost empty backpack over her shoulder, Harper waited outside in Arkadia. Her and Maya would meet there and make their way out of the camp together. Harper also carried her gun, tucked into her jeans at her back, and a knife to help cut down things that might want to collect. Her backpack held some water and snacks in case their trip went longer than planned. Although, it was planned to stay short with a double date meant to happen later that day. @mikha || Starters are not my strong point. THE TITLE IS LAME. ENJOY!!! xD |

In the days following the destruction of the people in Mount Weather. Maya was desperately trying to fit into this new way of life. She had not spoken much since it happened and she had spent much of her time in hers and Jasper's quarters. Unlike a lot of the members of the Sky People, she had been aloud to adjust a bit. Jasper had taken on duties to help with where he could and she had just tried to learn to cope with her loss. But she knew that would not last much longer. Just like where she came from everyone pitched in. You had a job to do and to to work toward the common good. She had been given choices already. Since she had been trained to help out in the medical department in Mount Weather, she had been offered a job in the small medical unit in Camp Jaha. There were other options too. Like being a hunter or gatherer. She was even told that she could train to be in the guard with Bellamy, Harper and the rest of them, not as a leader by any means, but that would mean training. Her skill were needed though and they had given her sufficient time to mourn.
The nightmares had not truly gone away and there were nights that she had woke up screaming, just to be held tightly by Jasper. He had been good to her during all of this time, but she sensed that he was growing worried about her. She had not shown any signs of improving or of letting go and trying to move on. But today, she had promised to go with Harper to gather food. Harper was one of the reasons for the nightmares as she had to watch her and other members of the ark slowly recover from what her people had done to them. It was the fault of her people for many things that had happened. But so fr she had been accepted into the community and treated as their own. She knew that her helping the 41 that had been taken by her people had a lot to do with that. The day before she had been shown around the medical unit and learned what her duties might consist of. There had been many runs to Mount Weather as they had gathered medical supplies and other items to help them support their camp. But she had not been among them. She could not go back to that place. Though she had heard that it had been cleaned out and the people had been buried in a graveyard of sorts. Losing her friends and family had been devastating. But somehow she knew that she had to make a life of her own now.
She tucked the two knives of her father's under her pant leg as she prepared to make the trip with Harper. It seemed daunting to her, but Jasper had things he needed to do, but he promised that he would meet her that night for their first date of sorts. Her own pack was secure on her back now as she left her quarters to go find Harper in their meeting place. Felling a sense of unease as she walked to meet her, she had not been out alone before, having been by Jasper's side most of the time. But she knew that she had to stand on her own two feet and that meant learning essential skills to survive. Something she was not able to do on her own. When she saw Harper already waiting for her up ahead she waved, and quickened her step. she didn't want her to have to wait any longer than necessary.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGCatching sight of Maya walking over to her, Harper smiled and waved. It really did surprise Harper how she didn't cringe at the sight of Maya, especially knowing that it was likely her own bone marrow that allowed Maya to be outside. It was hard for Harper to work out why that was so but at the same time, she didn't want to dwell on it too long in fear that the bubble might burst. The last thing she needed was for Maya to also be a trigger for the memories that haunted her. "Hey Maya, how are you?" Harper noticed that Maya wasn't carrying a bag of her own and would keep that in mind when they were out in the woods. It would limit the amount of stuff they could bring back to camp but Harper hadn't really expected that Maya would have a bag with her anyway. Hoped but not expected. While she didn't have a bag on her, Harper hoped she had some sort of weapon on her. While there was no chance Maya would have a gun like Harper did, knives definitely weren't hard to get a hold of in Arkadia. Hopefully Jasper would have given her one.
Once Maya was standing near Harper, Harper swung her backpack up onto her second shoulder and looked out at the gate. She had to admit she was happy that they were allowed to go outside Arkadia. While she had done her fair share of sneaking out in the past - heck, sneaking around was her thing - she didn't think she would want to try sneaking out the gates of Arkadia. They were a lot more guarded than those of say the Dropship. "Has Jasper given you a knife?" she asked, bringing her attention back to Maya. She only had one knife on her but she could give it to Maya if she needed it. Harper would still have her gun and that would be the weapon most likely to protect them. "We'll need to use one to cut down stuff to collect," she told her. Harper wasn't completely sure whether she should mention the protection aspect of it just yet. The mention of large animals and the fear of rogue grounders wasn't something that would leave Maya confident about going outside of the camp. @mikha || So short. |

Maya bent down to lift her pant leg and he back pack slipped of her arm and onto the ground. Her pack had been hidden behind her and she showed Harper the knives that were hidden underneath. She hoped that they didn't encounter reapers outside the camp as she knew that they were dangerous. Once she had shown her knives to Harper she picked up her pack and put it over both shoulders now. The morning was still young as most of the family were still just waking up. But they needed to get out and get back as they had a date that night. Dates were something that she had never done or experienced before. She had her job at Mount Weather. But that was gone now. She had to figure out what she was going to do for a job. She had a few options and today was one of those options.Though she was more than likely going to choose the medical unit. She knew things that would help the ark medical staff and she was able to get supplies from Mount Weather if needed but she would rather that someone else got it. she could draw maps of all kinds for them if they wanted.
"I....am okay...how are you? This is Jasper's pack. I have my own knives. They have been passed down in my family."
Her voice was quiet, almost non existent as she spoke. She was still unsure of this expedition, but she knew that getting out would help her more than anything, at least that was what she had been told. But she was as ready as she was going to be as she stood now and glanced around the camp. She had not ever seen a space ship before and to see a partial one was intriguing to her. When she first arrived she had been a bit out of it as she had just lost everything. But now she was starting to adjust and was beginning to notice things she hadn't before. Like that lack of little children, she had seen a few. But there were not many and that confused her. But she said nothing about it. She now glanced back out Harper and smiled slightly, letting her know that she was ready.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper was surprised to see a backpack fall off of Maya's shoulder, having been hidden behind her before that. She blinked a few times, wondering about the state of her eyesight and if it might have been damaged during all the drilling but just shrugged it off after a moment. It was early and Harper was not known for being a morning person. That was a good thing, at least, that Maya had her own pack. Also that she had knives, It would mean that Harper would be able to keep her own knife on her person and not worry about Maya being without protection. She had to admit that she was a little surprised to hear that the knives were her own, possessions from her family. Her gaze moved from Maya's face and down to the knives, not really wanting to make eye contact in that moment. Everything with Mount Weather was still so fresh. Harper was sure that Maya would still be mourning her family, just like Harper still struggled with the memories of the drilling.
"I'm fine," Harper said, using her normal response with a small shrug of her shoulders. Neither of them were fine or okay, and they probably knew that about each other, but that was still what they would say. Harper's eyes were back on Maya and she saw the small smile to say that she was ready. Harper herself gave a small nod and turned back towards the gate. "Okay, let's head off then." She started off towards the gate, pausing after a few steps to make sure Maya was with her before moving again.
It was true that Harper found herself wondering why she was out with Maya when Maya could have been out with anyone else and have been just as safe. There wasn't even too much purpose to what they were doing, a lot of people could gather and it wasn't something desperately needed. Harper had suggested it mainly because she thought it would be good for Maya to get out of the camp, to see the world that she hadn't had a chance to see before. There were so many things about Earth, about the woods that Harper found beautiful and she had wanted to show Maya that. Why? Harper wasn't sure about that. Maybe she was bored or lonely or she just felt bad about the fact that Maya had lost everyone.
When the two arrived at the gate, the guard opened it, allowing them to walk out without even a question of where they were going. Harper guessed that was a perk of being a part of the guard, she could go outside of camp without much reason to need to. Once outside of the camp, Harper couldn't help but to smile. The area looked familiar to her now, her eyes adjusted well now to the way that the outside could all look the same. With a light smile on her face, she turned to Maya as they walked. "Has Jasper taken you outside camp much yet?" She had to ask. Since that had been such a big reason for her planning this and so she had an idea of what to expect. She could remember her own feels of being on Earth for the first time and seeing everything as something new. The last thing she would want to do was rush Maya if she was still in that sort of mood. @mikha || I DIDN'T READ YOUR LAST POST PROPERLY ABOUT THE PACK. SORRRRRYYYYY! i feel like you're getting the worst first impression of me! haha |

Maya had not been outside the gates yet. she hadn't been ready. But she knew that she had to force herself to live in this new world. She lost her people and Harper had lost some of hers. But she was not blaming anyone for taking her life away from her. She had at time wished that she had died with them. But she hadn't and now she was learning to live again. But this time in a different capacity.
"I have not been outside. Jasper was trying to protect me at first."
She followed Her to the gate and then outside. When the gate shut behind them she had a strong urge to run back inside and hide in the quarters that she had shared with Jasper. But she stood her ground and waited for the next move as she glanced around at the area. She would have to rely heavily on Harper and hope that she was not leading her to the wolves so to speak because she was upset about what happened to her. If Maya had, had a choice, Harper would never have made it onto that table. But she didn't and she felt sad about that. Maya kept quiet about that though as she did not want bad feeling and she was actually starting to like Harper. She was really nice to her, despite their past.
The forest seemed daunting to her and she could not help but want to hide behind Harper, but she had to stand on her own two feet. Her eyes shifted constantly as she gazed around her. She didn't know what to expect in the woods but then Harper would help her in a sense and she would stay close to her. She was not sure she could handle being out her on her own just yet and the likelihood of her hiding behind Harper was stronger than she thought. But she knew she had to stand on her own two feet. Her father knew that she was tough. He would be proud of her if he knew that she was trying to be that way now. She lifted her chin slightly and put on her brave face ready to head out to gather food.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGIt wasn't too much of a surprise that Maya hadn't been outside the gates of Arkadia yet since she had arrived but still, it had Harper feeling less confident about their day. Now as she looked at Maya, with that knowledge behind her, she could pick up on the way that she was quite hesitant about being outside. Everyone knew that Jasper was the person who was closest to Maya and it probably should have been him taking her outside for the first time, not Harper. There was a twinge of guilt in her stomach at that thought, regret over not asking her that question before she invited her to come gathering with her. Why hadn't she thought of that? But still, all she had done was ask a question and make a suggestion. In no way had Maya had to say yes and come with her, that part had been decided solely by her and Harper wasn't going to get bogged down over something that she really hadn't been the one to cause.
Maya had said yes knowing that it would be first time outside, so it was Maya who decided for Harper to be with her in this situation.
Hopefully Harper wouldn't mess it all up.
As Harper had been observing Maya, she noticed when her demeanour changed. A lifted chin and a less open expression. So, Maya was putting on her face. The only thing that Harper could take from that was that Maya was likely terrified but that she also didn't want to turn back quite yet. That was good enough for Harper, it was probably the best she would get from Maya. So Harper continued on walking through the trees, setting her path to go down towards the river where she knew that some edible and safe nuts grew that they could collect. "So, why did you want to come out here with me then?" Harper asked her, wondering if she could get into Maya's head a bit and understand her reasons for this activity. "Was Jasper being too protective?" That reason at least might not surprise Harper. She was sure that most of the delinquents felt a little cautious and protective of each other after the ordeal of Mount Weather. She knew that she at least was taking the time to check in with some who she was closest to. @mikha |

Maya followed Harper though the trees as she glanced around. The feeling of being out in the open was a bittersweet feeling. A feeling of fear of open spaces seemed to want to creep up on her as she was used to being indoors. But at the same time it was something new a different and she didn't want to miss a new experience. During the time she had been with Jasper here in Arkadia, she had done her share of falling apart and coming to a realization that she her parent would want her to live. After the initial loss of her old life, she knew she needed to go on and carry the legacy of the Mountain Men with her. Good or bad they had existed and were a part of the earths history now. So she had decided to push her own boundaries and see if she had what it took to be an Arkadian. It was this that pushed her into telling Harper that she would go. Jasper had been very protective. But she kind of liked that part. She had him all to herself for the most part and she was happy that he had been there to get her through the rough patches that have come along so far. The nightmares were not as bad and she was not able to get out among others even though it caused her anxiety to skyrocket. But she didn't feel it so much with Harper. In fact Harper made her feel more calm.
"I.....um.....Jasper has been good to me. He had been protective. But I needed it for awhile. I just well, I can't live in my quarters for the rest of my life and well, I needed to get out and get to know some people. So I thought...that maybe this would be a good idea."
Her voice was kind of quiet as they continued through the trees. She was not sure who she was trying to convince that this was okay. Herself or Harper. She knew that she was more than likely going to have to stand on her own two feet at some point. She needed that for herself and Jasper needed to be able to know that she was alright. This was a start wasn't it. Harper herself seemed brave and even after what she had just been through, she was getting stronger. She was stronger than Maya physically now. Her own body had never been strong in a way. But she felt different since the treatment. Like she was getting stronger. But it was a slow process. even the way her eyes had to learn to adjust to the sun, was beginning to rise and she knew she better get those sunglasses on like the medical people had told her. Her eyes might always be sensitive to real light and she would have to wear the glasses to be able to see.
"Hang on a moment. I....need to get something out of my pack."
She paused and pulled out the sunglasses and then put them on. They helped already and she was glad of that. Putting her pack back on, she caught up to Harper and then gave her a friendly smile, letting her know that she was ready to continue to wherever Harper was leader her.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper stepped over a log and nodded at Maya's word. That made sense and it was sort of good to hear. It was good to hear both that Jasper had been looking after Maya after everything she had gone through, losing everyone she had known, and that Maya was still willing to take this step. It wasn't a small one, Harper knew, to be out here in the open after a life of being locked up inside. It was funny really, for how different the Arkers and the Mountain Men were, they held that key similarity of having been locked inside a structure and unable to see and live on the Earth. They both also held that dream of coming back to live on their planet, just with large differences in how they could ever do that. It didn't matter then, though, because both those structures were now opened and the people either dead or had made it to live on Earth like they had dreamed.
It was completely brave of Maya to be out here, especially with Harper. While Harper wouldn't do anything to hurt Maya, she didn't hold any hard feelings towards her, Maya didn't know that. After being drilled, Harper could have easily decided to blame Maya, being the only living Mountain Person. It really was a brave step for Maya to be doing what she was doing. "That's a great attitude," Harper said, smiling and looking over at Maya when she spoke. "Have you been doing anything around camp so far then?" Harper hadn't really seen Maya around camp much and when she had ran into her, they hadn't done much but talk and go their separate ways. So Harper was interested to see how she had been spending her time, and hoping that the girl had attempted to make some other friends as well. Harper wasn't completely sure what the attitudes of people were towards Maya but she could only hope they were positive.
As Maya said she needed to get something out of her bag, Harper stopped walking and turned slightly so she could see Maya but also be keeping a watch on the area around them for any danger. It was a surprising thing for Harper to see Maya take sunglasses out of her bag and put them on, probably the most random thing that she had seen in a while. No one really wore sunglasses, although there were pairs floating around the camp and occasionally Harper would catch someone wearing them if they were working in the sun. To see Maya wearing them and to need to put them on so suddenly, Harper wondered if there was some other reason why she needed them. Maybe it was because she had been inside Mount Weather her whole life. "Not really sure if they're your colour," Harper teased. "Is it too bright for you?" @mikha |

Maya smiled for the first time in ages at someone besides Jasper. She was not not used to doing so and it felt strange, but she got the teasing and couldn't help it. They both needed a bit of happiness at the moment. She knew that life was as hard for Harper as it was for her. Everyone had lost loved ones and Maya herself was not singled out of that. She was not anything special really. She didn't mind helping when she could and going gathering with Harper was a good way to start. She walked over to Harper and shrugged.
"My eyes are a bit sensitive to the light. The artificial light I grew up with didn't prepare me for this. But my eyes are getting better. I should be able to go without them soon."
She was suddenly talking to Harper like they were friends and she started to drop the wall a bit. Jasper was the only one that had gotten her wall all the way down. But for others this would be a bit harder to do. Harper was somehow managing to do this. But slowly. She was ready to continue and she looked around them once more. The wind was blowing light through the trees and she could feel the sun starting to peek out as she began to feel a bit more at ease. She used to be at ease in Mount Weather. But after the....well after things happened she was a bit more nervous around others. But, for the most part she was a friendly girl. She always had been accepting of others and loved to help other, and that was part of the reason she had worked in medical before. She knew the different devices and the way that things worked. No she wasn't a doctor, but she knew about keeping things sterile and how to assist when needed.
But right now she was learning something else. How to survive as a member of a new society. Her father would have wanted her to go on and make a life for herself even though, at first she thought she should not have lived at all. That she should be with her people. She sidestepped a stick, showing Harper that she was going to follow her lead and not draw attention if there was any danger lurking in the woods.
"I wonder if we can get the nuts and be back for lunch....."

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper's suspicions about why Maya needed to wear the glasses turned out to be correct. She guessed it made sense, the artificial lights in Mount Weather had been nothing like the light from the sun. The sun was bright and harsh and Harper had never had to squint as much as she did now when she had been back on the Ark. The Arkers had definitely seen sun light when they had been in space but experiencing it from the perspective of being on Earth was so much more intense. It actually surprised her a bit just well their eyes adjusted to it, but then, again, they knew what light from the sun was like whereas Maya never would have had a clue about it. Well, at least Maya had the sunglasses to help in her eyes adjusted to the new source of light. Harper simply nodded a reply to her answer and gave an interested smile.
For someone who hadn't been walking out in the woods before, Harper was quite surprised by how well Maya was doing. Maya was obviously paying attention to her feet and making sure she didn't trip over any sticks or plants or logs, which was a good thing for Harper as she didn't have to be the eyes for both of them. The other surprising part, however, was that Maya was managing to walk a lot quieter than Harper might have expected. Her steps were light on the ground and because she was watching where she put her feet, they weren't making loud noises from twigs. That wasn't to say she was silent, it was hard to be anything like that was the dead leaves that seemed to completely cover the ground below them. She was impressed, Harper could admit that.
At Maya's question, Harper hummed quietly and shrugged. "Possibly, yeah," she answered. It wasn't too long of a walk to the river but Harper never felt sure about things like that. Anything could happen that made their trip longer than they intended it to be but they could definitely try to make it back by lunch. Harper assumed since Maya had mentioned that want that she wanted the trip to be shorter and Harper could do her best to respect that. "It won't take us to long to get to them so don't worry, we shouldn't be out for too long." She smiled over at Maya, hoping her words sounded comforting.
It was really only a minute or so later that Harper heard a sound moving towards them. Her hand automatically went to take out her gun and she aimed it towards the sound, wanting to be safe rather than sorry if it were something dangerous. She held her arm out, moving around Maya's waist to pull her behind Harper and shushed her before she could say anything. Maybe if they were lucky whatever it was would head off in another direction and they could continue on safely. If they were lucky. And they weren't. A large animal came out of the bushes in front of Harper and Maya, looking like what Harper remembered learning was a gorilla. Her eyes widened but her mind mostly shut down, focusing on nothing but the fact that she needed to shoot. She held the gun up, pointing it towards the animal and shoot multiple times.
When that didn't work and Harper was out of bullets, she was left with no choice on what to do. "Run!" Harper shouted, starting off away from the animal. She made sure to grab Maya's hand as she started off, pulling the other girl along behind her. A quick thought ran through Harper's mind that Maya would never want to go outside Arkadia ever again. @mikha |

Maya was suddenly staring at the largest, and ugliest creature she had ever seen. Her heart jumped up into her throat and she gasped trying to get her breath. What the hell was that thing. Even worse, she realized it was probably hungry and both of them probably looked just as good a meal as any in that moment. Suddenly the air was filled with gunshots and screaming. After a moment Maya realized it was her screaming. When Harper ran out of bullets, her screaming got even louder. Right up until the moment Maya grabbed her hand and took off. She followed easily, letting her adrenaline take over. Though she knew that if she passed Harper, she would get them both lost. Harper was in the lead and she let her lead. Her glances over her shoulder were not helping though as the beast came crashing through the woods after them, eliciting short screams from Maya. So much for being outside that gate. She would have nightmares for a month. She had no idea that a creature like that could exist and she would be all to glad if she never saw it again.
When the creature leaped toward them and made a nose dive, it landed on its face, missing her by millimeters, causing her to jump forward and almost trip over Harper. She was gripping Harper's hand tightly and her eyes were wide as she tried to get control over her incessant screaming that was sure to start getting on Harper's nerves. After a moment she caught her breath and quieted down. She knew that Harper didn't need her screaming like a siren alerting the creature to their every move. She knew that the beast was starting to get up, but this time she didn't look back and Harper wouldn't have to hear her scream again. She was in control now. The horrible sound that came from the angry creature behind them made her move even faster as she continued to allow Harper to lead them.
"I....i....is there....a....place to.....hide?"
Her words were spoken between her fear and her rapid breathing. She was surprised she could even get them out with all that was going on she had actually felt the breath of that beast on the back of her head, but it had somehow missed grabbing her. She was thanking her lucky stars at that and the fact that Harper had swift feet along with hers. She had always been light on her feet, but today she was grateful for that fact.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGIf Maya continued screaming like she was, Harper was sure that they would soon have a whole forest full of animals on their toes. The gorilla was bad enough and Harper was finding herself panicked about what they could do. When she went out into the woods, Harper was never really that scared of coming across a grounder. A gun could deal with a grounder - and it wouldn't be the first time she had shot one - but animals were a completely different story altogether. They were what Harper was afraid of when she went into the woods and this situation was the exact reason why she held that fear. Not even a full round of bullets had been able to put down the animal and now they were left to do nothing but run for their lives. To top it all off, Maya's first experience outside was now a ontarrible one.
Harper refused to look back at the creature and had no idea what was happening behind her. The only thing she knew was that Maya eventually stopped screaming. Harper was extremely thankful for that at least. The worst thing they could do was run through the woods screaming as Maya had been doing. The screaming didn't make way to silence however as Maya began to speak, asking if there was a place for them to hide. That was a good idea, Harper had to admit. They were eventually tire from running while she knew absolutely nothing about the animal chasing them and if it had more stamina than them. So finding a place to hide might be there best bet at getting out of the situation alive.
On that thought, Harper racked her brain trying to think of anyplace she knew of where they could hide. There wasn't too much she knew about the area, if she were to be honest, but there had to be someplace. An old structure or bunker that they could find to hide in. As Harper could think of one at that moment, the best she could do was keep a lookout for one. "I don't know!" Harper replied, shouting as she didn't bother to turn her head back in Maya's direction. "Look for things," she added. Maya could definitely help with the looking. That wasn't something too difficult. She glanced around her surroundings, looking for the glint of metal or the way that concrete looked out of place amongst dirt and trees. "Anything man-made, point it out. Or something like a cave could be helpful too." @mikha || If she finds something or not is totally your choice. Be creative! |

Maya ducked just in time to miss a tree limb, but it snatched her sunglasses and she was now at the mercy of the sun. She blinked a couple of times but kept running. It was then that she realized what area she was in. Her mind thought back to the map that she had seen many times. The Reapers didn't know about it, It was sealed off now. But there was a waterfall just below a large cave. There was a hidden enclosure there. Though she had not known it was the site where Clarke and Anya had jumped weeks earlier. She glanced back and the creature seemed to have lost ground for a bit. She could hear it roaring behind them but it wasn't in sight. Suddenly Maya turned and headed in a the opposite direction that Harper had.
"Come on, I know where we can go."
She whispered the words as she headed down the hill toward the river below. Her hopes were that Harper would trust her as she had trusted Harper moments before. She knew that the creature was still close and that she had to get them to the enclosure. It was small and too big for it to enter and if they were fast enough the would not draw attention and could get there before it even saw them. She was not sure why her survival skills were kicking in now. Moments ago she was screaming like a scared child. Now she was able to see straight and she knew the area as she had seen the maps surrounding Mount Weather. There were tons of tunnels and entrances into the Mountain. This one was sealed off, but that was lucky for them. They just needed a hiding place until the ugly King Kong was over it and had moved on. She had remembered one of the books she had read in Mount Weather as a preteen. A story she would tell Harper another time. Right now was not the time and she would end up getting them both killed. The last thing Maya wanted at this point. She wished she had brought her own gun that she had left Mount Weather with. But what good would it have done. She saw how little the bullets had affected the beast and that was not a good thing.
She skidded to a stop on the bank next to the waterfall and glanced at Harper quickly as she heard the creature breaking through trees behind them. It was now or never and she tugged gently on Harper as she headed for the enclosure. The beast would be coming out of the trees any moment and she didn't want it to see them. It was a slippery route she almost a fell a few time in the mud as the moss, but soon she was behind the water fall and in the enclosure. From where they were, she could see the beast pop out of the trees and look around but, the water camouflaged them and the wind was going downhill so he couldn't catch their scents.
She bent over trying to catch her breath as she glanced over at Harper to see how she was doing. Maya herself had never run that hard or that fast before and she collapse onto the ground of the small cave. She was not sure how they were going to get back, as the monster was between them and where they came from. But she figured Harper would have some ideas to share as well.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHarper didn't notice the fact that Maya had lost her sunglasses until the girl was suddenly pulling her in a completely different direction. Initially, Harper felt like fighting against Maya and pulled them back in the direction going away from the animal that was chasing them but then she heard Maya tell her that she knew of somewhere to hide. That part surprised Harper, especially that she knew which direction to go in but she decided not to fight against the other girl taking control. The fact that Maya thought she knew somewhere to hide meant that she was one step ahead of Harper who still had no idea where they could go to hide. If they had been closer to the dropship, she might have been able to find somewhere but out near Arkadia was still relatively new ground for Harper.
With the fact that Maya had been whispering and the fact that they had partially started to head back in the direction of the animal, Harper decided it wasn't worth making any comments about Maya losing her sunglasses but she definitely would later on. If Maya's eyes were so sensitive to the light, she would definitely need to go back and find them. Although, with this having happened, Harper might have to go back and find them for her. Harper knew that it wouldn't be easy for Maya to get her hands on another pair so sh could only hope that an animal or a grounder didn't take the glasses from wherever Maya had dropped them, and that they hadn't broken. Getting too caught up in her worries over the sunglasses, Harper found herself almost tripping over a large tree root. She swore quietly under her breath and got herself steady on her feet again, quickly glancing over her shoulder to make sure the gorilla hadn't managed to catch up to them. They were go, for then at least.
It wasn't long after that Harper started to hear the creature getting closer to them, however and when Maya skidded to a stop, Harper's eyes widened. "You better not be lost!" she whispered. Thankfully, Maya started up again and Harper realised she was being pulled behind a waterfall. Well, that hadn't been the sort of hiding spot that Harper had been expected but she guessed it would work for their purpose. The moss under their feet was slippery and Harper found herself having difficulty keeping on her feet, and she saw Maya having the same problems. Adrenaline ran through her body at the sound of the gorilla making its way through the trees. Why couldn't it have been a grounder? she thought. Eventually, Maya stopped again and Harper realised that they had made it to somewhere safe. Her breath left her like she had been holding it and she may have been by the end of the walk over the moss.
Now that they were safe for the moment, Harper gave herself a moment to pause and breathe. It was the quiet moments after panicking where she often found herself wanting to cry and break down but she knew they weren't actually safe, not yet, and she needed to keep herself in battle mode. They would need to find a way out and a way to get home without being eaten. "I'm so sorry," Harper began, turning to face Maya for the first time since they had stopped. She had failed in making this a good experience for Maya, that was for sure. "I really didn't think this would happen but I should have warned you about the wildlife. I'm so sorry." All she could hope was that it wouldn't lead to Maya locking herself in Arkadia for the rest of her life. @mikha || So much guilt from Harps. |
