Lilly walked toward where she saw Jasper sitting, and paused a few feet away until he turned to look at her. She smiled softly at him then and walked forward to sit beside him. "I'm glad you're on my team." She told him, wanting him to know that first and foremost. She hadn't really worried too much when he had been assigned too her. Had Jasper been in better shape he would be leading this mission. She knew that. He had had a rough few months, and she was worried that he might not be ready for this type of mission, but he had keep her alive in Mount Weather. She was hoping that this could be what he needed to help him get back to the old @jasper420. The one who believed in himself. She knew that he would still help the team--he had saved Raven, and without knowing it herself too. When he stole the rover and everyone gave chase, she had escaped from the group of people waiting to be chipped and gotten away, too.
Lilly kept smiling softly at him, trying not to treat him like she thought he was fragile. "I was a little surprised you volunteered at all." She admitted, not finding it easy to come out and ask him if he thought he could keep up. She didn't want to ask him to stay, but this mission was important. She was trying to test the waters to make sure he could do it. She believed he could! He had been so strong before. She just knew that he was hurting now, and she hadn't ever lost anyone. She hadn't even really loved anyone like that before. The later might not be true. She did care about someone a lot, but with everything happening she knew she couldn't really let herself think on that.

They were going to be heading out soon, and Jasper had managed not to outright cry saying goodbye to Monty, even if he had teared up. He'd grabbed his pack, though, and waited for his group to set out. He hadn't thought Harper was mad at him or hated him, but maybe he was wrong. She wasn't treating him the same as she used to, so Jasper just decided to give her her space. He'd help her if she needed it. He'd risk his life for her if he had to, just like he had for Raven. But he'd give her space otherwise. So now, not only was he without Monty, he didn't have any friends with him.
He tried to ignore the ache in his chest. If they could find a safe place for them all, he would see Monty again soon.
Jasper sucked in a breath when Lilly sat next to him, having been lost in his thoughts. He glanced over to see her smiling at him... which was unusual these days. He couldn't quite smile back, though. "That makes one of you," he said, his voice flat. It was nice of her to say, but when even his friends were treating him weirdly, he wondered if she was just trying to pep talk him.
"I volunteered because I wanted to stay with Monty," he admitted, looking back ahead of him. It was the truth, though Jasper realized belatedly that it probably did nothing to help her continue to be glad he was in her group. "But I don't especially want him to melt any time soon, so..." He trailed off and gave her a small salute.

Lilly used her shoulder to bump Jasper's and try to get him to smile or something. She knew it was a long shot, but she had to try a little. She felt she owed him a lot after him helping her until she had found her mother after Mount Weather. Lilly had been born to privilege, but had hid it when they got to the ground since no one seemed to recognize her. She didn't want to be out casted like Clarke and Wells. Her mother had come down with Alpha station, and they were reunited here. That was when everyone had figured out she was a council member's daughter.
"Yeah, I get that." She admitted, "It's like me with my Mom. I rather not leave her right now either, but I want to help her stay alive. Which is why I am going to do this, and do my best!" And why she needed him to do the same. She needed him to be able to take charge of his job, and have a sharp eye on the readings. She wanted to believe that he could, but she wouldn't risk the mission on him. "I want to be honest with you Jasper, I am a bit worried about you. If you think this is too much for you, no one will judge you for staying here." Lilly reached over and rested her hand on his shoulder, "But I could really use you, and you're the best one on the team for this. I think that getting away from this place will do you good. So just let me know what you need, K?" She wasn't going to baby him, but she was here to help him if he needed it, and could ask for it.

Jasper turned his head in her direction when she nudged him, but didn't look at her. He thought she might be trying to get him to smile. He didn't really need that, but it didn't bother him so long as she eventually gave up. So far, Monty was the only person who could get so much as a hint of a smile, and he could do his job without smiling. He nodded as she talked about her mother, and doing this to save her too. The thought of Monty dying of radiation was too much for Jasper to bear.
When she said that she was worried about him, Jasper wasn't surprised, but when she said no one would judge him if he stayed, he tensed and his eyes snapped to hers. Had she just said she was happy to have him on her team to soften him up before trying to subtly convince him to stay behind? But when she continued, he relaxed again, blinking at her a couple times before looking at her hand on his shoulder, and then away again. She was probably right that getting out of here would help. "I can't stay here," he said. He shook his head. "I can't be inactive right now."
As much as his brain was telling him too give up, that life was worthless, that he would never feel real joy again, he had noticed it had helped him when he had something to focus on. First it was Raven. Then Octavia. Then Luna. Now it had to be this mission. Otherwise, he'd be drunk again in days and thinking about eating a gun.
"It's better when I'm busy." He glanced in her direction again. They weren't close, but he didn't think he needed to explain what 'it' was. "Thanks, Lilly."

Jasper nodded as she explained where she wanted to lead their team. He'd been west before, but not as far as they were probably going to be going. He thought maybe seeing new parts of this world might be good for him. Everything her knew was tainted now by so much. It had felt good to be on Luna's oil rig--a new place, a peaceful place. Maybe wherever they wound up could be like that too. A fresh start. "Sounds like a plan to me."
He glanced over at her when he asked if he new how to ride a horse. "I've been on a horse before," he said. He'd been drunk and bleeding and he wasn't sure how he hadn't fallen off. He hadn't bothered to hold onto Octavia that strongly. "I don't know how to work one, though," he added. His gaze drifted to where he thought Harper was, but then he looked back at the ground. Apparently, he was going to have to learn. "I doubt Harper wants to share her horse with me, though." His tone was a little darker than it was before.

Jasper said it sounded like a plan, and Lilly smiled to herself, while enjoying how easy this leader thing was going so far! Granted, she hadn't even left yet, but so far she was proud of what she had done! She knew it would get harder, but no one seemed to disagree with her thinking, and everyone seemed on board for trying to work together! Or so she thought--"I doubt Harper wants to share her horse with me, though." She blinked once, and looked back at him. What did that mean?
Her brows bent, and she tried to read his suggested meaning. Were they not friends? She had thought they were friends, but his words hinted that something might have happened to change this. "Everyone has been through a lot." She suggested, "I am sure if she knows how to ride, then she would be glad to share. We have enough horses for everyone, but if you need help at first, we can ask Nyko to give you some pointers, or help! When I first rode I thought I would fall off! But it's easy once you get the hang of it! I can try to help you, too! I'm still learning, but whatever you need, the team will help!" She liked that, that her team wasn't full off too many unknowns! They would be able to work together NO problems!

Jasper's lips pulled to the side and his eyebrows raised when Lilly mentioned thinking Harper would be glad to share her horse. Jasper didn't think that was the case at all, but he didn't say anything. He didn't intend to cause any drama with Harper. If she came to him to talk, they could talk. Otherwise, he'd let it go. As Lilly went on, Jasper just listened to his options and Lilly's offered help. He wasn't used to people being so helpful, not the way she was, but he appreciated it, even if he didn't smile.
"You think maybe Nyko would let me ride with him?" he asked, a skeptical expression on his face. Harper wouldn't want him with her, he thought it might be awkward with Lilly because they weren't that close, and he didn't know the other grounder in their group. But he'd sort of met Nyko briefly before. Jasper knew very little about him beyond him being a healer and Lincoln's friend. "He doesn't seem like he'd be likely to knock me off on purpose," he said, sort of joking, even if his tone was still flat. "And it would let my leg rest." He didn't know how to control a horse, but he knew it required your legs. Then he glanced over at her, wanting to reassure her about his leg. "I mean, I'm fine on it. I could run if we need to." It would hurt like hell, but Jasper had been through great amounts of pain before and survived. "But the more I can rest it, the faster it'll heal."
