| THE HIGH SEAS ARE MY HOME LET ME CHASE THE HORIZON TILL THE END |
The air was cold as the small carrier hit the shore—which of course was to be expected. Floukru hadn’t made a trip this far north in years. The last time they had, Azgeda soldiers descended upon them like a horde. A long political battle stirred the waters between Captain Luna and Queen Nia, but with the death of the Queen, it was once again safe to trade with the coastal Azgeda villages. Luna’s ship was a ways away from the shore, in case they needed to make a getaway. They didn’t want their goods to be at risk, so instead they took three carriers filled with fish, jewelry, nets and other Floukru goods that they were here to trade for fats and fur. She had remained on the ship as her crew set up camp a mile away from the village they planned to do business with. As she stepped off the boat and onto the weather hardened sand, she was quick to make her way to the large canvas tent they had set up for her.
Inside was her bed, a map of the nearby villages, a large wooden table and a chest with her clothing and valuables. More importantly, it would be warmer against the harsh wind. She hated the north... When Azgeda attacked they had to retreat as their soldiers were not made for this kind of terrain. Returning was a risk—but Queen Nia was dead. Long live the—son of a bitch that invited himself into her tent. Luna stiffened—“Jok!” she gasped and glared at Roan with confusion as he stood in front of her planning drafts. “What are you doing here Roan?—how did you get in here?” The old acquaintance of sorts was welcome to see her—but not where she slept. “This is not the place for a meeting. My tent is for sleep, sex and privacy. If you wanted to see me, you should have spoken to my men and I would have come.” She hadn’t seen the man in a long while—the last time she had, she’d regretfully had to turn him away.
While he was banished, she tried to house him, but he was the ice prince. Too many of her people were ready to revolt against her for keeping him even as a ship hand.

With Roans reign things changed. He allowed trade his mother forbade, because honestly, he saw no logical reason, apart from her anger and resentment, not to trade with Floukru. They had things Azgeda needed, Azgeda had good they needed, they could trade and make good trades. He knew the leader well enough to be confident in his plans. While his mother was sure in Azgedas special position within the clans, Roan thought they needed to earn and secure this place first. He knew that the coalition was as fickle as their leader. Lexa had proven time and time again that a heda was not to be trusted and he would not be caught to trusting any of them again, unless Ontari rose to the positin. And even then, he knew she would act according to her position before acting as a loyal friend to him and he could never fault her for it.
And so the new king of Azgeda sat in Lunas chair in her tent. He had helped himself to a drink of hers and had taken of the shirt, for bargaining purposes. To him it wasn’t necessarily as cold, but not warm either. He knew women, though and even though she was a leader, a fair but strict one, she was just a woman and he wasn’t beyond using his visual assets for his advantage for a bit. Those were things his mother was lacking, but his mother also didn’t think that strength could be found in strategy either. She thought of Azgeda as so superior that it would withhold any attack. While he was inclined to believe, why should he not strengthen Azgeda, make it even more of a threat right under Lexas nose while there was absolutely nothing she could do about it. So when Luna entered, he just smirked.
“Through the entrance. That’s usually how people get in, isn’t it, dear Luna?” Roan moved the glass in circles in his hand as if to stirring it, his eyes fixed on her, hoping to see her reaction. “Who said I was here for that?” He asked her. Well he was here for trade. It was simple and much more logical to meet her outside of the official meeting room. “Maybe I’m just here for sex. Would you want that?” Without waiting for her reply, he shot forward, immediately invading her space, looking down at her with a grin.

Luna froze as he stood and closed the distance between them so quickly and effortlessly. He was so close she could feel the warmth emanating off his bare chest just as she could feel the heat under his gaze. She had to look up to meet his eyes-- or take a step back which she was unwilling to do. This was a strange way to start negotiations. The leaders of the eleven clans she traded with had never shown up half naked in her tent, drinking her ale and invading her space. Of course, Luna had never dealt with anyone like Roan in this position. "I--" she was speechless for a moment, caught up in the act; the question. Truth be told the captain rarely had the chance to indulge in such pleasures. "You're asking for a smack across the face and a scar to remember me by, King Roan." She said breathlessly. "You and I both know you're here for more than sex."
She was still shaken and her cheeks burned as hot as his blood. He was manipulating her and she was falling right into it, even though she knew it was happening. Slowly, she unbuckled the clasp that kept her long leather coat closed around her and slipped it off her arms before turning around to hang it. Her worn hat followed before she turned around again to face him. "Why are you really here?" she asked in a softer voice now as she tugged at a shark tooth necklace and looked over his bare chest. Politics had never been such a struggle.

He made her speechless. Now that was something to be proud of. He made the great Captain Luna speechless. It was more than he anticipated and perfect for his purpose. He needed her open to this talk, open to him most importantly. He had to establish the familiarity between them. He had to get her on his side like his mother never managed to and that was most easily done by being open or at least a lot more open than Nia had been. “Please, go ahead. I did not come here as King, Luna. Just Roan.” He hoped she understood what he meant by that. Roan turned again, returning to the chair to sit down.
“I don’t trust heda.” He began to explain. “She promised to let me go home and went back on that. She promised justice for the skai people and hasn’t given it to them. She abandoned skaikru at Mount Weather. The coalition is fragile and I don’t like being dependant on it. I know Azgedas reputation. I lived it. I want Azgeda as strong as it was, but through alliances.” Real alliances. “That is why I came to your private tent. Lexa might… take it as an insult for us to negotiate treaties and alliances without her, but I want our peoples friendship to not come with an expiration date. I want solid trade. I want our people to be able to rely on yours and vice versa. I am trying to learn from my mothers mistakes. I was one of them.”

“You know that even talking about this is treason,” she said as she poured herself a glass and sat across from him. It was smart though. Meeting her hear instead of making a scene. She adored her people but there were a lot of gossips among them. She couldn’t trust most of them. Though, normally she would have Tomac present for these conversations. Though if it were to escalate- a thought that made her smirk with mischievous intent- she’d rather be alone. Her attention was brought back to his words. “The coalition is fragile,” she agreed honestly. She had representatives in Polis. Skaikru alliances were a mess—their Heda was full of broken promises.
Luna leaned in from her chair and cocked her head to the side with her glass in her hand as she looked over Roan. She wasn’t just looking him over for his body, but rather searching for any signs of dishonesty. “We have never made a move against your people. Before your mother ordered it, we made peaceful trades.” Her eyes narrowed with frustration at the memory. It was shameful; being defeated in battle. She knew her open mind made Floukru look weak at times, but they were not. However, they did not bring armies on their ships while trading peacefully. “I understand that you are not your mother, and your plan to ‘learn from past mistakes’ is admirable, but your people are vicious. Who’s to say that when the coalition fails and your wolves get hungry they won’t turn on us?” Luna leaned back in her chair and shook her head.
“You’ve got a nice body Roan I’ll give you that; but you’re reaching a little high to make friendships when it’s your people that need convincing.” Her brow quirked as she took a drink. “You will probably be the first of the twelve clans to leave the coalition—are you asking us to follow you? To rebel against Lexa—or whatever black blooded child takes the throne after her?”

“My mother tried to have Lexa dethroned. It’s in my blood to be treasonous against Lexa. Besides, can you blame me? She is the reason I was banished to begin with!!!” He knew this treason would be okay here with Luna. Luna was a kind and honest soul. She was the one leader out of all the others Roan admired the most. She was devoted to her people and generally didn’t give people bullshit. Luna was because of that the leader he really wanted an alliance with. Roan nodded at her noticing how fragile the coalition was. He agreed. The clans weren’t fully loyal to the other. His mother caused a lot of this, he knew it, which was why he was left with things to fix. He had the ruins of Azgeda to pick up and he would, for his people, those who only had guilt loaded onto them, by being loyal to a misguided leader.
“That is exactly why I want an alliance outside of the coalition. I want our people to be united in friendship without the coalition. I want our people to stand by each other even when the coalitions fails. A harsh winter, the eternal night in the north will last for another two months. I am aware of my peoples need, Luna, but I will not satisfy them at the cost of others. We have rich summers in Azgeda, syrup, herbs, meat, we can provide you with a lot, but we might need support. My people will have to learn a better way. And they will.” He would make them learn. But at her next words, Roan leaned back with a smirk.
“On the contrary, dear Luna. With the rate Lexa is going, Azgeda will be the last clan to leave the coalition. My mother was many things, mad, disloyal, completely despicable, but she knew strategy. Times are changing. She had a strong hand for Azgeda, she had a reason to try and provoke a conclave. And if that happen, Azgeda will stand firmly in the coalition.”

Luna listened to Roan silently as she polished off her drink and set the empty cup down beside her. His words rang with authority she didn’t expect a banished prince to have. Still, she respected his vision and his reasons. She too wanted more than a fragile alliance. Though her people had much to trade, their existence relied on trades between clans. They would be nothing without the alliance—and much of their trades came from Azgeda. “An alliance forged through friendship will require interaction among our people. This means deeper trades; access to coastal villages farther north and time together.” Her eyes trailed over the king’s bare chest and smug little smirk. She couldn’t help grinning. They had a history... When she sheltered him for that short time she knew he was a good man with good ideas and a heart that was clouded but not sadistic. Tomac had to convince her to cut him loose to avoid a mutiny. It was nice to see he was doing so well now.
She stood up with a small grin and walked towards him, and the bottle of rum that she’d kept hidden in the cabinet. “Did you think that you needed to seduce me to build a friendship, dear Roan?” She asked with a coy smile as she poured herself a glass of the harsh liquid. Without missing a beat, she moved onto his lap. She sat across it with her back against the cabinet and let her fingers trace along his collarbone and down his chest while she took a sip of her drink. “Surely you must think of me as more than a swooning girl who falls for such things...”

“I am aware of that.” Roan replied. “From now on all the ports in the north are open to your people. The rivers as well, should you need them.” And he did not expect to be allowed into her territory at first, obviously. It was his people that needed the teaching not hers. Hers were defending more than attacking. “But for the time being, I would be careful. Word travels fast, but it takes time to take root in deaf ears.” Some of his people were beyond stubborn. And her people would most likely be naturally careful to deal with their former enemy.
“What can I say? I’m young and foolish.” A quote given to him by someone else, but it made him smirk. He grew up under Queen Nia, the foolishness was out of him by the time he turned four, the first time he was literally bathed in fucking blood! He was skilled in this game that his mother was playing, but he was the one, who rather didn’t charge, but watched and plotted before making his move, trying to stay ahead of the game and calculating his options. “Besides, Luna, why the hell not?” And on top of it, it would serve a purpose. Lexas spies were surely in this port as well. “On the contrary. You are a strong leader, which is why I turned to you, but you’re also a clever leader. Lexas spies are probably out there, how about we give them a proper show?”

Luna was surprised by his lack of demands. She wouldn’t make him ask for such things though. When her people were ready to accept Azgeda into their villages without fear she would allow it. It would take time. She would need to introduce small groups... her own people were fearful at times, but not weak. For years Floukru behaved like cornered dogs; snapping viciously at any Azgeda man or woman that got too close. It came with good reason. Luna and Queen Nia had a violent history... but, she had that effect on people. Luna was very different than the late ice queen... Roan though... He seemed to be very different as well. “I will lead any ships that go farther north than we are used to. Some of my lieutenants aren’t as peace driven.” Sending her people out without their captain was a death sentence. They would not treat Azgeda with the respect required of a true and lasting alliance without guidance.
Roan’s words made Luna smirk at the idea. Lexa did have spies—but just as Luna was known for her kindness, she could be ruthless when betrayed. She had cut spies before. The most ruthless thing any leader could do in times like these was exile... death was simple, but solitude was long lasting and difficult. Though a spy of Lexa’s could easily escape to Trikru territory or Polis, being torn from your home and family was sure to send a message.
“You want Lexa to know of our alliance so quickly?” Luna didn’t like thinking of their Heda as weak but... she’d probably see it as a threat. Plotting against her, even. Though, it wasn’t the case. Nobody had breathed a word of acting against Lexa. Without cause, only a fool would... “And here I thought you wanted me for... well, more primal reasons than to send a message.” The captain set her bottle down after another quick drink and shifted to straddle him. Her knees rested by his sides on the chair as she rested her hands on his jaw. Her eyes locked with his for a moment; filled with burning desire before she kissed him hungrily. The woman never wasted time. Her lips crashed against his as her hands moved to the back of his neck while her fingers curled into his hair tightly. Though she’d never voice her desire for him, she had wanted him for a long time.

“Lexa will know I am here anyway.” Roan pointed out. There was no doubt that she would have him watched. He was previously an outlaw, a man hunted, banished from his people and used by her to get what she wanted. He didn’t like the idea of it, but he knew she was calculating. She wanted to keep the king she helped to the throne under her command. So she would know he was here and she was most likely pissed about it, unless she had reason to believe he was not there for an actual alliance between their people, but for a rather more private, more carnal alliance. And he didn’t mind that. “What?” He asked her with a smile.
“Primal reasons? Me?” He stepped closer as well, but before he could really approach her, she had taken charge. With a grin, he accepted her burning kiss, before he kissed her back, hand threading through her hair, pulling her closer, holding her there, as she did the same to him. He slipped his tongue into her mouth, battling for dominance over her, but for some reason that alone gave him the sense that there would be no dominant one. They would take pleasure in the constant battle for dominance, only leaving it to the other for a moment to enjoy the pleasure of this carnal act. In that light he pulled her away, grinning. Both hands immediately went to her shirt, ripping it open, before letting his lips connect to her neck, sucking, clearly leaving a mark.

Luna let out a soft gasp as the king moved in and kissed her back with the same hunger and ferocity. There was no giving in, only exploring. Her hands moved down his neck and along his shoulders as her tongue moved and battled against his. When he pulled away she took a breath and growled with both lust and irritation as he cleanly tore her shirt open. As he kissed her neck, she pulled the scraps off her body and let out a small whimper of pleasure as his lips pulled at a particularly sensitive spot. "You really are trying to send a message aren't you," she murmured huskily as she pulled his shirt from his body. Her lips moved to his collarbone where she nipped and sucked her way to his shoulder, all the while her hands worked his pants from his hips. When they fell, her arms moved back around his neck and she pulled him towards her bed.
She pressed so close against him she could feel every inch of him, even through the fabric of her pants she could feel him. Goosebumps raised all across her skin at the feeling of his touch. It had been so long it took all her willpower not to shudder with pleasure. Her hands moved down the length of his chest, lingering over every muscle and every inch until her fingers trailed over his hipbones. She captured his lips once again, this time biting his lower lip as her hand moved against his length. She tugged it teasingly before letting go of it. "Maybe I should leave my marks on you as well," she purred by his ear before nipping it gently.
