There couldn’t have been a worse time for Niylah’s father to open that door. It had been nearly frozen shut, thanks to the storm that had passed the night before. In the back room, Niylah was still curled up against Bellamy and very much naked under the furs. The sound of the door was a rude awakening as any and Niylah froze. She listened for a moment as her father kicked his boots free of snow and shook off his coat and in that short moment she was out from under the covers and yanking on her clothes which were haphazardly strewn across the floor. Bellamy’s torn shirt was far from hidden from view, and she could hear him pick it up. “Nontu!” she exclaimed, giving Bellamy a bit of a shove towards her basket of clothing. He’d be able to throw on the large fur coat on top of the cloth clothing.
Niylah was in a state of panic—since even if he were Trikru her father would still have a problem with this. Bellamy was very obviously not Trikru, and her father hardly had the best opinion of the Skaikru. She and her father were the most polar opposites, which made for intense conflicts. Her skin paled as she rounded the corner, leaving Bellamy in the room and watching as her father looked over the torn material. “What is this?” he asked with a frown—speaking of course in Trigedasleng. She scrambled to really find an answer.
“You’re home... Early—I thought you were headed to Polis.” She spoke in English, which her father still called Maunon tongue. She didn’t want Bellamy to be completely ignorant to the situation. “A Skaikru man was injured—I kept him sheltered so he wouldn’t freeze in the storm.” Please get dressed Bellamy. Please get dressed. Her father frowned deeply and his eyes narrowed before he stormed towards the small room. He was of course protective, but so help him if he was in his daughter’s bed—it didn’t matter if there was a cease fire.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was not a deep sleeper. Quite the opposite. Ever since Octavia had enteredd his life, he had become quite the light sleeper, always too alert for his mind to fully rest. But tonight, he had fallen into a peaceful slumber. How could he not after the incredible night he shared with the woman in his arms. But everything came crashing back to the reality of their lives when an abrupt sounded jolted both of them awake. Bellamy's eyes shot open where Niylah was already out of the bed scrambling to put her clothes on. She said a word that Bellamy could recall hearing before . . . but using logic, he could easily figure out what it meant. He quickly got out of the bed, reaching for his pants and hastily putting them on.
This was a far worse situation than being caught by any woman's father on the Ark. Far more dangerous for sure. The adrenaline coursing through him even somewhat numbed his injured leg, to the point that he could pull his pants on without any hindrance. There was no time for that. She ushered him toward a basket of clothing and he just grabbed whatever he saw, pulling it over his head as she left the room. He looked after her, hearing something being questioned. Damn it! His shirt. His, ripped shirt. Shit, this was not good. He figured it was only a matter of time before he came into the room. But at least he was dressed.
And still . . . he doubted her father wouldn't assume the worst. He could hear his footsteps nearing and he knew he had to act quick. There was no way out from this room, otherwise he would have bolted. No. Hiding was his only option. Thinking as quickly as he could, he slid under the bed, feeling like he was some sort of child playing hide and seek. But really, this was the best. For both of them. Besides, he was used to hiding. When Octavia was a baby, he had gone under the floor with her. So he quieted his breathing so that it couldn't be heard. He saw the man's feet near him, and though Bellamy's eyes slightly widened, he didn't react. He didn't even dare breathe.

“Weron laik em?” – Where is he, her father asked which made confusion flicker across her features. There was no escape from that back room... did he hide? That made things... only temporarily better. They still had to sneak him out. She took one look at the room and immediately knew where he was. The chest was full of clothing and there were no places to hide among the chaos—the coat was gone which meant he was under the bed. Niylah stood frozen before shrugging a little.
“Em gone we,” she answered hesitantly with a small shrug. He went away... he’s gone—anything to make her father leave the room, but her tone made him suspicious. Her heart was pounding so loud... What would he do if he found him? By the way he looked over the room you could tell that he wasn’t convinced. There was a mess of furs and her own discarded clothing which embarrassed her to no end, but she stood silently until his eyes flashed to the bed. “Hod op,” she exclaimed as he went for the bed. She moved between them and held up her hands. “He was and is injured so don’t hurt him, alright? He was just passing through and I helped him. He gave me a knife—it was a trade like any other he just needed a place to stay.” He didn’t shove her aside with any intention to harm her- just to make her move before he grabbed the bed and lifted it before moving it to the side.
“Gon we o wan op.” He snarled with anger as he pulled out his knife and stalked towards him. Leave or die—but Niylah wasn’t going to let that happen. She moved between them again, this time reaching behind her to help Bellamy stand. She didn’t want any conflict.
“Stop—he didn’t do any harm. There is no need for violence. He’s hurt enough as it is.” Her tone was pleading as she stood between them. Slowly she glanced back at Bellamy and at his leg, wondering if he could even make the trip alone. “I’ll take him back to his camp and he won’t be a problem, alright?” Her father scoffed and glared at Bellamy for a long moment.
“You are lucky boy. If I see you here again I’ll skin you alive”--- “Daun ste pleni!” Niylah interrupted him with a growl, standing protectively now. He acted as if she was a child who needed protecting when in truth she was a grown woman... but she knew the fact that he was Skaikru did not help anything.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy was only picking up on bits and pieces of the conversation . . . but it was the tone that was very telling. He saw Niylah stand in front of the bed, but to no avail as her father pushed her out of the way and tossed the bed to the side, revealing Bellamy. He wasn't going to cower and beg for his life though. Such was not his way. He did accept Niylah's help as she pulled him to his feet, forcing himself not to cringe at his leg. He didn't need her father to immediately notice his weak point. Though he imagined it wouldn't take long if he was going to have a go at him. Bellamy remained silent as he watched the exchange between her father and her. The man was armed, ready to gut Bellamy alive . . . and here was Niylah, defending him. Protecting him.
It meant more to him that he could say. He wondered if this was a frequent occurrence, but didn't bother questioning it right now. Besides, he was more worried about her than himself in this instance. He didn't want her to get harmed, nor cause strain among them. Though he still said nothing. He figured that was for the best, to not interject. To let Niylah diffuse her father's anger. Which . . . she had managed to do. At least to the point of her father not attacking him, allowing him a pass to leave. She had saved him from the wrath of her father . . . and he wasn't sure how to truly express his gratitude. Whatever the way was, he sure as hell wasn't expressing anything in front of the man right now. Bellamy looked at him, his gaze stoic as ever as he took a bit of a step forward, standing a little more next to Niylah rather than behind her.
He wasn't going to be a smart ass, nor provoke the situation. "I observe the Commander's truce," he told him, knowing it was relevant though whether he believed it or not, Bellamy had no control of. "Your daughter honored it by saving my life." There was a difference. They may respect the ceasefire, but Niylah had honored it and gone out of her way to help him when she had no obligation to. She had told her father it was for a trade . . . but he still wanted him to know that what she had done, was worth honoring. "You should be proud." But something told him that he wasn't often a man who expressed pride in his daughter where Skaikru was involved. Taking a bold step, Bellamy slowly walked around Niylah to get his boots.

Niylah wasn’t sure if Bellamy’s words would help the situation or not. Her father bitterly accepted the ceasefire but that did not mean he accepted Skaikru. They were not his people, and to have his daughter—his own flesh and blood lay with one had to be infuriating. Niylah did not regret it. Not even for a moment, but there was no pride in her father’s eyes. She let her guard down for a second while Bellamy walked around her to get his boots. “Be proud that my daughter chose to lay with one of your kind?” he replied in a harsh voice. Perhaps it was obvious with the scattered sheets and clothing—but she didn’t think he would strike Bellamy. He took the chance to deliver a hard and downright cheap blow—punching Bellamy hard in the chest with his fist around his knife.
She let out a growl—a truly primal sound of anger as she forced her father back with her forearm. She shoved him against the wall. He was not a young man and he was easily overpowered, but she didn’t want to do it.
“Osir gouba ogonzaun in, Nontu.” She growled evenly, reminding him of the truce that Bellamy spoke of. “You strike him, you strike your own people—you disobey the commander. If it is tradition you are protecting, you’re representing our people poorly.” Niylah... wasn’t submissive, but she was also not the type of woman to fight in this way... Seeing him harm Bellamy triggered something almost feral. “Bellamy get your things,” she said after a moment of staring down the man. She held him in place, knowing that in this moment her father was anything but proud. She'd be damned if he hurt Bellamy more than he already was.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy had been hoping to avoid that one little fact. Though, it was not little at all. The Arker couldn't blame a father for being angered by that. Hell if Bellamy was him and he knew his daughter slept with someone -- didn't matter who -- Bellamy was fairly certain he would be infuriated as well. But, he wondered if her father was angry for the right reasons. He didn't bother questioning it. Nor did he get the chance. For the next thing he knew, the heavy impact of her father's rage came in a strike on Bellamy's chest, sending him staggering back, as he just barley managed to catch his balance. And even then, it was only due to the small table behind them that he had managed to lean against.
With his still weak lungs and chest from yesterday, the blow came particularly hard, and left him especially winded for a few moments. The stagger also placed unwanted pressure on his leg, and he felt his body ache from both impacts. But the immediate distraction kept from dwelling on it, as he watched Niylah lunge at her father, pressing him against the wall and scolding him for betraying the commander's orders. He remained still, not daring to speak or move. But . . . damn if he wasn't proud of seeing Niylah's strength. Seeing her stand up like that. She was strong. So incredibly strong. The second she told him to gather his things, he didn't waste a moment.
He reached for his boots once again, and quickly skimmed the room for anything else of his. He had his pants, and his shirt and jacket were out there. Giving a short nod to Niylah, he briefly glanced at her father before departin the room to enter the main shop. There, he picked up his jacket and pulled it on over the shirt he took from the basket. But he wasn't about to leave. Not without speaking to Niylah first. He wasn't sure how serious she was about taking him back, but he didn't want her to risk her own health out there in the cold. At the same time, he had no intention of leaving without another conversation. Which . . . might have to happen outside anyway, considering who else was present.

She kept her father against the wall and twisted his hand just enough to make him drop the knife so that it wouldn’t be a problem. Her eyes were on his; cold, stern and unwavering while she waited for Bellamy to gather his things. Then, slowly she backed away to grab her coat. “Don’t do anything stupid,” she said as she pulled her coat on. Finally she looked away as she followed Bellamy. She took his hand without apology to lead him out of the trading post where they were met with bitter wind and as much snow as you would expect after a night like they had. With her hand tight around Bellamy’s she let him back behind the trading post where a large wooden stable stood.
“Are you hurt?” she asked him when they were far enough away from the post. She opened the door to the stable and held the door for him. Her horse Rose was uneasy and rightfully so. It’d been a rough night. “Do you think you can ride?” she looked down at his injured leg with concern as she ran her hand along Rose’s back to sooth her before pulling her saddle off the rack.
Her heart was pounding—she was fearful. She didn’t want her father to turn around and decide he wasn’t done, but she was pretty sure that her outburst was enough to shock him long enough for them to make a clean getaway. That was as long as Bellamy was strong enough to hold on. The walk would take hours... besides she was curious about Arkadia as she had never been too close. "I'm so sorry..."

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy wordlessly followed her once she came out, as he felt relieved to see her. She even took his hand which . . . he wasn't going to object to. Clearly, she had the power here, over her father. Which had just in turn saved his life. The moment they went outside, all the warmth found within her home vanished and left was the bitter wind and sharp cold air that felt like it was biting any inch of exposed skin. He figured it would take time to adjust to this kind of weather . . . but that clearly wasn't happening any time soon. He wasn't sure where she was leading them until they arrived, her question asked as they stepped in.
"I'm fine," he assured her. It could have been a lot worse and he doubted there was any lasting damage. He didn't feel like he had any broken ribs, otherwise it would hurt a hell of a lot more than the faint throbbing that was there now. He looked at the horse that she stroked, her next question causing him pause. "Yeah." Because it was about whatever got them there faster. He was still wondering if she would be coming with him, though his gut was telling him she was. And that was reason enough to shorten the journey as much as possible, for her sake. At the same time . . . he feared it was too much to ask of her. It was her apology that pulled him out of this consideration as he took a few steps toward her, his hand resting on hers to stop her actions for a moment. "Hey," he began to say, looking at her intently. "You saved my life. More than once," he said a bit teasingly, though not without truth.
"You have nothing to be sorry for." Not a damn thing. He was the one who had intruded. He was the one who had put her at risk, and now at odds with her father. It just proved what he already knew: he only hurt the people he cared about. He left a path of destruction everywhere he went. "I don't know what to do right now," he admitted. "Is it better for you to come or stay?" He further question, not fully realizing that he was still holding her hand in his own. Would it be better for her to place some distance between her father and herself, or would it be better that she stay here. She didn't seem like the one who needed to be coddled, so he wasn't going to tell her what to do. He would take her lead on that. She was obviously strong enough to make her own decision. But . . . Bellamy wanted to make sure it was the decision that was best for her. Not for him. He had done enough damage since last night.

Bellamy was a strange man. Of course she had to be sorry for the way her father disrespected him. It was her blood, and he deliberately defied the truce and punched Bellamy. Whether he punched, kicked, stabbed or hurt him in any other way was irrelevant. He still defied their truce which meant that she had everything to be sorry for since she could have stopped it if she had been in the right position.
She tightened the saddle for a moment before Bellamy spoke. She frowned and turned to cup his face with a soft smile. “I’m going to take you as close as I can to Arkadia, then you’re going to go and get proper care from your healers.” Niylah grinned lightly and kissed him softly before pulling her roped bridal onto Rose and climbing up onto the saddle. Her eyes met his for a moment before she grinned and gestured for him to get on with her. “You might want to hurry though,” she teased playfully—despite the direness of the situation. “He’s kind of an ass and will probably keep the fight going if we don’t get out of here and give him some time to cool off.”
Riding in the snow had some risks, but walking to Arkadia in this cold would be worse when she could make the trip in a quarter of the time. “You just have to tell me if that leg starts giving you any trouble.” She did her best to offer support, knowing that climbing on the back of a horse was probably not the easiest task for him right now.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She was going to take him. He wasn't going to overly question it nor try to talk her out of her. Her mind was set and well, he appreciated it. Every risk she took for him, he appreciated. The light kiss just added to all that he already felt for her. The tender embrace was not one he was often familiar with. And he hoped, it would not be their last. But right now the priority was getting out of here -- as she suggested -- for her father may not be so willing to let go.
He nodded as he watched her mount the horse. He remained at the side of it, bracing himself. Octavia and Lincoln were the ones who rode horses. He preferred the rover. But right now, that wasn't an option. Nor was it going to be easy to get on top of the animal. Bellamy closed his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath and in one quick motion, mounted himself onto the beast. It hurt like hell, his heavy breathing an attempt to fight back any sound of pain. His face twisted to express it though, taking a few moments to adjust to the feeling of his leg in this new position. His hand rested over the wound as if to further brace it.
"I'm ready," he assured her, his other hand casually going to her waist to keep a firm position on the horse. He could easily get through this. She was here with him. She was going to take him home, and . . . the thought of it potentially being the last time he saw her, was not one he wanted to dwell on right now. Just focus on the present. It was all they could do. "We should say goodbye?" He was joking of course, but couldn't resist attempting to jest over the situation. "I think he liked me." A further joke, more than the first. With that, he leaned forward purposely taking the opportunity to speak in her ear. "Let's go." Before lightly kissing the side of her head and holding on to whatever he could to ensure he didn't fall off.

Niylah stiffened as he pulled himself up onto the horse. She didn’t move so that he could have a chance to adjust before her hand moved to lightly cover the wound as a way to soothe him. Blindly, she didn’t realize his hand was already there. “No more trips in the snow, Bellamy...” she said slowly before letting her hand move back to Rose’s reins. She shifted forward to give Bellamy more room as his hand moved to her waist. With a grin she moved the hand so that his arm was around her for more support before she squeezed her thighs to make Rose move out the stable door and into the deep snow. She didn’t have a problem with the terrain unless she had a cart to draw.
“No,” she laughed a little—blushing when he kissed the side of her head. It was such a small action but it made her stomach flutter almost uncomfortably. She would have never pegged herself for the kind of woman who would enjoy little romantic interactions but she did... It made her cheeks warm against the cold. “Oh yes... He liked you a lot. That’s how he treats his very best friends,” she answered with a playful eye roll before giving Rose a light kick to bring her to a canter. She wouldn’t ride hard with Bellamy in the state he was in.
The wind howling against her ears made talking just a little too difficult as she headed south towards the camp. Eventually she moved one hand to rest on his arm lightly, once she found a comfortable pace. “Can I bring you to the gates, or will that cause problems?” she asked as she slowed—the ride lasting just over a quarter of an hour... twenty minutes at most, but they were close—still hidden by the forest. “I don’t know... how your people would react to me.” She said lightly as she brought Rose to a halt and turned to look at Bellamy. “Your leg has to be sore though...”

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She told him not to take any more trips in the snow and he couldn't help but give a slight smirk at that. "This one wasn't so bad," he said a bit jokingly, though also with truth. Because . . . it had brought him to her. Granted, the night ended better than the morning began, but still. His mind was not quick to forget how wonderful last night was. How it gave them a moment of solace; an escape from the hell that this world repeatedly proved to be. His faint smirk remained when she agreed with more sarcasm to meet his initial sarcastic remark regarding her father.
"I have to say that you're a better host than him." Once again, there was teasing but in actuality, there was hardly any comparison. She tended to him. She took care of him. She saved his life, both in the physical and emotional sense. It meant more to him than he could ever say. Her next question made him pause in thought only for a moment though, as he was fairly confident in the answer. "My people shouldn't have a problem." Kane and Abby were accepting of Grounders. Too accepting in fact. At least when it came to the Commander. But things between the groups were fairly calm at the moment. "But I understand if you want to stop a little ways away," he added on, not wanting her to put herself in a state of tension or nervousness for her own sake, just for him. She had already done so much and risked so much on his behalf.
When she stopped the horse he looked at her, his hands on her waist slightly loosening, not that they were incredibly tight to begin with. "It's fine. We can keep going. I don't want you to get stuck out here for long." Because she still had to make the trip back, and he was already worried enough about that. Plus, his stubborn nature made him loathe the fact that he was physically impaired. That he was hindered in his ability to function. His damn leg was sore as hell, and he wished it wasn't. It was enough to keep him going to the summit and that in itself was a massive sore spot.

Niylah slowed the horse down to a walk as they approached the edges of the trees. She listened to his stubborn voice and the way he backed off when asked about his leg, but for some strange reason it made the blonde smile. She wasn’t particularly amused—or was she. She didn’t know, but before they broke through the trees she turned and leaned back to kiss his cheek and the corner of his lips. “I know—you’re fine,” she said with a soft chuckle before reluctantly leaving the safety of the forest. She looked at Arkadia with curiosity and worry, but she only let the one emotion show as she brought him towards the gate. She was about ten yards from the arch and she could hear people as they noticed them.
Slowly she turned to Bellamy before slipping off the horse and reaching up to help him if he needed it. The horse blocked Arkadia’s view of them, which was intentional of course. She hated the idea of them saying goodbye now, since there were so many things she wanted to do... Bellamy was special, and to let someone like him go so fast seemed criminal. “Better be careful—next time I see you I might not let you leave.” She teased gently before looking up at him.
“Can you make it back?” she asked softly, worried about his leg.
