The euphoria from the landing was gone. Survival was now the only priority that Levi had, and that meant picking up a knife and going out to find food. While others built a wall surrounding the dropship, a small group went out to hunt. Levi was still concerned about radiation in the meat they found, but hunger pains made a very convincing argument. If the food was irradiated, they would die. If they didn’t eat, they would die faster—and Levi didn’t come all this way to die.
For a good half hour, he walked two steps behind Bellamy and kept his mouth shut. His eyes were scanning the thick woods around them for anything from rabbits to hostile and elusive grounders. His knife was never sheathed and he never broke focus. Honestly, he was glad to be away from the chaos of the dropship. He followed Bellamy because he was the only one with his shit together... But Murphy was getting on his last nerve and the tough man crew paraded around like guards in the prison halls. Bellamy gave them that power, which was admittedly the only reason Levi wasn’t his biggest fan.
This wasn’t about abuse of power, though. This was only about food... So Levi embraced the silence as he always did... At least until he heard a horn in the distance. “Grounders—“ he said with narrowed eyes. He’d heard that sound before, though... It wasn’t close. Somewhere north of them, but they were close enough for them to hear what he assumed was a warning. He looked up to the trees, rigidly prepared for an ambush from their invisible enemy. This was only his second run for supplies... it was the first time that fog was released from the mountain. He didn’t see the cloud in the distance, but he heard as animals started to move.
“What the hell?” he looked at Bellamy with confusion—for some kind of answer or order while birds rushed past them overhead. He still didn’t know what that horn meant.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Earth was not what anyone expected it to be. Then again, their knowledge of it was only what they learned through books and classes. No one told them that there was going to be an army of peoeple with poisoneous spears who were going to attack them. Just one of the many surprises that they discovered on their own. Bellamy had not meant to come down here, but he had defied that. The opportunity to go with his sister presented itself and he had taken it. He'd rather die with her than live a life without her. So the risk was worth it. How he got onto the dropship, still remained a mystery. One he was not going to inform the others of. For he had shot and killed the Chancellor. He had never taken a man's life before and he knew it had changed him. Hardened him.
Which was why the second they came down, he had already started doing what he could to keep things controlled. Giving the delinquents the illusion of freedom while controlling them himself. It worked out well. Most all the bracelets were off of them, and he even had the wild cards like Murphy and John under his control. Others like Miller and Harper were a bit more trustworthy. For right now however, he was focused on keeping everyone alive. How long he stayed here, he didn't know. If the Ark was coming down Bellamy wouldn't be be able to stay. But one thing at a time. One day at a time. And right now, the priority was food. So with his axe in his hand and one of the delinquents behind him, Bellamy was using what knowledge of tracking he had to see if they could find some sort of wildlife that they could take back. But fate had other plans. The sounding horn caused him to pause, Levi's voice speaking that single word that had instilled so much fear in the Delinquent's hearts: Grounders.
But it wasn't just that. Animals started to rush away in the direction they were heading in, but at a speed that indicated something was threatening them. Something was coming. Turning around, Bellamy saw a cloud of yellow smoke starting to approach them. And fast. "Time to run," he said bluntly as he pulled Levi in front of him, giving him a bit of a push to start running. Protective instinct perhaps was what made Bellamy suddenly position himself behind Levi as they raced forward, away from the approaching yellow colored fog. They didn't have to run for too long fortunately when Bellamy abruptly stopping moving forward and instead, turned to the side. "There!" He pointed out, referring to the small cave that would offer the necessary shelter until whatever the hell this was passed. He ushered Levi to go in first before he followed suit.

When Bellamy grabbed him and shoved him in front Levi let out a bit of a disgruntled sound—not used to being pushed around. He didn’t have time to complain though, or enough time to really think about it because they were running. Smoke was creeping in fast behind their feet, and Levi struggled not to look behind him to see if Bellamy was okay. It was so close, the gas stained the air and made his eyes tear already. The slight sting of it drove him forward before Bellamy screeched to a halt. Levi nodded once in understanding before ducking into the cave with his knife drawn and his back pressed against the stone.
“Where did that shit even come from!?” Was it radiation caused? No—that didn’t make sense. He coughed and shook his head as he tried to figure it out. Did grounders figure out chemical warfare? “Damn...” He straightened up and glanced at Bellamy with a look of gratitude sullied by his resentment for being ‘saved’ and pushed around.
He leaned against the cave wall for a moment as he tried to figure out exactly where they were and where they had been pushed to. The camp wasn’t too far... “That horn—think the grounders could pull something like this off?” He was glad that the cave dipped down. The smoke seemed to spread based on radius, but only travel one direction. “Is it an attack?” in less than thirty seconds the punk said more than he’d said since the damn dropship landed in this hellhole. Now he was worried about the damned kids in the camp.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Once Levi was inside, Bellamy followed suit, pushing a large boulder type object to cover the entrance of the cave. Even the slightest bit of wind would push the fog through the opening, so Bellamy wished to eliminate that possibility. He could see the slight light peeking from outside, the discoloration of the air. Levi's question was foremost on the older male's as well: where the hell did it come from. And then of course, another important question of whether the Grounders could do something like that. They didn't know much about the Grounders, so Bellamy wouldn't put a lot past them. At the same time . . . they seemed to be very primitive beings.
Were they capable of something like this? "No idea," Bellamy admitted. "Sure as hell wasn't a coincidence that we heard that horn right before we saw the fog." It was either a warning or retreat. They either were telling others to take cover, or they had set out the fog. "Could even just be toxins left from the radiation of the nuclear war." But it was clear that while Bellamy presented that as an option, he was less inclined to believe it as one of the more likely possibilities. Was it an attack. Another good question, that Bellamy didn't have the answer to . . . yet. "If it was, then at least we know how to defend ourselves." Next time, they would take out sheets to conceal themselves with if they couldn't immediately find shelter. It would be far more practical. They had been lucky this time, but next time . . . they might not be.

Levi watched Bellamy move the rock to block out the small entrance to the cave before sitting with his back against the rock. His eyes were narrowed in frustration as he looked over his knife. Fuck. What the hell had they gotten themselves into? With his brows furrowed, he tried to think it over. Radiation could potentially make pockets of poison gasses under the earth—sure. But this seemed more deliberate. He hated the grounders with a passion... He hadn’t even seen one for himself but what they did to Jasper was too damn much. Poor punk screamed for days.
“We’re too close,” he muttered with anger before picking up a stone and scratching the surface with the tip of the knife. “They didn’t... prepare anybody for survivors. This whole planet should be a wasteland.” He grew up imagining the world as a desert from one side to the other with nothing but eradiated air. He tossed the stone at the wall and ran his hands roughly through his hair before looking up at Bellamy. He seemed put together.
“Speaking of defending how did you get the gun?” The question was brought on by sudden curiosity. “And the guard outfit. You’re not a guard. Would have seen you before if you were.” He knew all the guards... he knew how to piss them off and how to get under their skin. It was almost a hobby. However, he knew nothing about their ‘leader’. “You’re sure as hell not a prisoner either, so what’s your deal? Why are you even here?” You could blame his aggressive curiosity on his desperate need for a separate topic. Something to take his mind off the fact that if there was a hole this chamber would fill with the toxic gasses.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Levi addressed something that Bellamy was quite frustrated over hismelf. The fact that either way, the Ark had sent them here to die. Be it by the toxic air -- which they had survived. But what about other things? They barley had any medical kits. Hardly any food. The tents wouldn't be any good through winter and storms. The Ark had no idea what was down here and just threw 100 kids to figure it out. How did they even expect that they wouldn't kill each other? It made Bellamy all the more relieved that he had come down, to protect Octavia. God knows the chaos that would have ensued otherwise.
"We're just lab rats to them," he pointed out. He had used this as a selling point to rally up the delinquents. Saying that the Ark had locked them up, that his people were down here. And he still meant those words. "Which is why they don't even deserve to know." Why he had gotten them to cut off the bracelets. Of course Bellamy had his own motivations for doing that . . . but he wasn't going to backtrack into those. He had to stay consistent. Levi then asked how he had gotten the gun, and the guards uniform. Bellamy was all too aware that people wondered about both things. He usually just dismissed the topic and told them to screw off. It wasn't exactly any easier when he was stuck in closed quarters with someone asking him.
"What, you some sort of guard tracker?" He rhetorically questioned with sarcastic bluntness. "Look, I borrowed it to get on the drop ship," he answered nonchalantly. Leaving out the fact that he had shot the Chancellor moments before getting on. But that had been part of the deal. "It came equipped with a gun." And that was all there was too it. As for why he was here . . . he figured that wasn't exactly a secret to everyone. He wasn't too concerned with explaining it. "I wasn't going to let my sister come down with all you idiots. Not without me here to protect her." And that was exactly what he intended to do. "Why do you care?" He then asked a questioned of his own, a slightly raised eyebrow to go along with it.

He didn't answer that question, but he knew it was rhetorical. He didn't want to explain that he knew each guard down to their ID numbers because it was a little pathetic how long he'd spent in lock up dealing with those people... The uniform threw him off-- made it hard to trust the guy despite his charismatic approach. Levi made the decision to follow him but that didn't mean he trusted him all that much.
"Can't blame me for being a little suspicious about a guard uniform and a gun just happening along the dropship. You could have easily been sent by one of them-- even if you say that you're completely against them." He shrugged a little and leaned against the rocks, looking up at the low ceiling. He didn't like being the kind of punk who cried 'we're gonna die' at the top of his lungs but hell he didn't know what would happen.
Must have been weird having family down here... He couldn't imagine trying to keep everybody alive on top of a sister. "Fuck it-- why do you care about anybody but Octavia?" he challenged instead with narrowed eyes. His suspicions were easier to face than whatever the fuck was clouding outside this cave. At least his suspicions could be answered with logic and truth, rather than what ifs and I don't knows.

whatever THE HELL WE WANT Bellamy supposed he had legitimacy to his reasons. The delinquents had no reason to trust certain officials on the Ark -- especially though who were of privilege. It was after all how Bellamy had been able to sway the masses in his favor. No one wanted to hear what the princess had to say. She was from a life of privilege, and that was not something that majority of the delinquents could relate to. It was what Bellamy had used against her authority. "If I was, I sure as hell wouldn't get you all to remove those tracking bracelets," he stated.
It had been one of his primary goals, not having known what they were until Clarke had explained it to Spacewalker and the others. That, was when the wheels had started turning in his head. It was Levi's last question that caused Bellamy to pause. Another good question. Why did he care about any of them. It was difficult to explain. Difficult to vocalize the protective instinct that he had over the delinquents. A reminder, of what it was to be an older brother. It wasn't just the age that set him on that emotional path, but the experience he had practically raising Octavia.
"Because you are all my people." At least that, he could say with certainty. Besides, he continued to remain consistent with the speeches he had given at camp. "I meant what I said. We don't owe the Ark anything. They sent us down here to die. I say, we build our own civilization. I'm no different than the rest of you. And it's about damn time we come together to realize that we deserve freedom that they never gave us." Screw regulations. Screw the laws. Just, to hell with everything. Bellamy had been living in fear of the Ark's laws since the day Octavia was born. This place gave them that second chance to live . . . not just survive.

Levi listened intently; silently as he watched Bellamy’s body language. He could always smell a rat from a mile away. When he would bribe guards for favors, it was how he could figure out who was trustworthy and who wasn’t—and there was so much devotion behind Bellamy’s little speech that he couldn’t see any holes. He was annoyingly genuine. It was something that Levi rarely experienced. It was odd—even if he was looking for complete honesty, he didn’t know how to accept it when he had it. Instead, he gave a little huff and rolled his shoulders while looking up at the cave wall. “Preach to the masses,” he said in an annoyed tone before looking down at his hands. “Guess that’s why they call you king.” He stood up now and walked towards the opening of the cave, standing against the other side of the stone he moved so he was at Bellamy’s level.
“It’s a great idea; but there are grounders. I have a feeling they don’t give a fuck how old we are. Pretty soon they are probably going to come down on our heads with an army.” Levi wasn’t exactly the optimist. Some would call him depressingly pessimistic, but he preferred to be seen as a realist. “At least the guards didn’t spear us if we got too close,” he said with a smirk as he looked over Bellamy. He was always so serious, which Levi could respect. He himself was stoic by nature, but it was an icy defense rather than a healthy state of being. “Do you have any idea what we’re going to do when that happens? The way I see it is, it’s all fun and games until they attack. I have a feeling they’re hiding more than a hundred of their people.” Levi was listening intently, but he could still hear the wind howling. He knew it was the fog.
