"I smile all on my own," Yvette protested, a little grin crossing her face for a moment. That definitely didn't count as a win on Alekay's part, even though she had smiled because of his teasing. Alekay had enough pride in his immaturity and teasing without her encouragement, although she had been a pivotal part of several incidents in the past. Occasionally she got into some trouble herself, apart from the whole stabbing thing, and it was almost always Alekay's fault. She was sure that he was proud of that. Few Grounders would be as proud of their joking ability as they were of their combat skills, but Alekay was one of them. Probably the only one old enough to be a warrior.
"The temptation is very hard to fight," Yvette agreed with a roll of her eyes. She would hardly have let anyone else tease her about the whole thing, much less trade banter with them. Alekay had always been different from the other Grounders she knew, and not just because he teased people with almost every breath he took. They'd always gotten along pretty well, even though they squabbled at times like all friends did.

The information that the Mountain Men would try to stop them was hardly news. For as long as Yvette had been a warrior, or training to be one, the Mountain Men had been one of the most serious threats to her people. Of course, the fact that people had disappeared and never come back was a concrete point, not to mention that Mountain Men had sometimes shot those of her people that ventured too close. But she suspected that part of the fear was due to the fact that nobody knew what happened to the people that disappeared. Fear of the unknown only increased fear of something that could actually hurt you.
Yvette had little idea what Clarke was talking about with engineers or mechanics. Tricking was something she understood very well. As long as the people Clarke spoke of were on their side in the coming fight, Yvette didn't plan on questioning them too closely. If they were going to have any chance to fight against the Mountain Men, they would need all the help that they could get. Hearing they had an inside man was good. Without one their plan would be much more likely to fail. If there even was a plan.
"What do you plan to do once you are inside?" If there was a plan, Yvette would rather know than be kept in the dark. And if there wasn't one... She'd rather know that than go into things blindly.

The information that the Arkers didn't have much else to offer was carefully filed in Yvette's mind as she kept a blank face. Eventually the Arkers would build better defenses and grow in numbers, but for now it seemed like their unexpected landing had left them disordered. If people as young as Clarke were in charge, the Arkers must be desperate for leadership. She hadn't thought children and young adults would be in any position of power, but evidently the Arkers had a different view on leadership than the Grounders did. Unless, of course, Clarke and those like her had simply taken authority without having the actual rights to it.
When Clarke claimed to have no plans Yvette nodded minutely. "Then we will stay here," she decided, promptly sitting down on the floor. She crossed her legs beneath her, her fingers resting on the fabric over the hilt of the small knife she kept sheathed inside her boot. From the outside it was hard to tell it was there, but she always had it with her. Her sharp gaze remained on Clarke as the young woman spoke, analyzing each word as she spoke it. The talk of the mountain, and resting, she understood, but there was a topic that was not covered in her memory. "This 'radio' you speak of," she said, pronouncing it 'rah-dee-oh'. "It lets you talk with the men inside the mountain? Who are you speaking to?" While the Grounders had their methods of sending information over distances, the radio was an unfamiliar concept to her.

"I can see that," Yvette grumbled. Even though the elders of the tribe had been nearly catatonic at her actions, some of the younger warriors had been quite amused. Alekay, in particular, had laughed out loud upon hearing the story. When he kept teasing her she smacked halfheartedly at him, a grin slipping across her face despite her purposed crankiness. She really wasn't going to stop hearing about this for months, or maybe even years. And since there were still occasional new suitors despite her reputation, each time someone announced their intentions to try to court her, it only added fuel to the fire.
"Very reassuring," Yvette agreed wryly. "As long as you behave yourself we'll have no problems." The concept of 'behaving' was very ambiguous, since Alekay undeniably had the biggest playful streak out of the entire tribe and she had a particular talent for getting into trouble. They'd always gotten along well, however, and even though some people had thought their continued closeness risky, considering Yvette had no intention to marry anyone, neither of them had particularly cared. Yvette suspected most of the protest came because the other males hoped she would give in to one of them if they pestered her long enough. She nodded as Alekay told her where they were going. He waited for her to double-check her weapons before they started out, and she kept pace with him easily even though every little movement caught her attention.

Yvette hadn't been thrilled with her assignment to follow around the Arker girl, but she knew better than to question orders. Besides, even though she never would have admitted it, she was a little curious about the Arkers and their culture. The people had literally fallen from the sky, with no warning. So far she hadn't seen much of them, but the way Clarke had killed her friend had intrigued her. Even though the Grounders could have wiped her people out in retaliation, she'd done what she'd decided was best. Although Yvette had been angry that the prisoner hadn't died in the way dictated by her culture, she'd started feeling a grudging respect. The girl was brave, for an Arker.
Clarke led Yvette and her fellow Grounder to one of the quieter parts of the crashed station. Yvette took in as much as she could, for curiosity's sake as much as a warrior's mindset, that everything could be dangerous in an unfamiliar setting. She glanced at the other Grounder, who simply looked back without saying anything. "This will be fine," she told Clarke. There wasn't much in the room, but it would be better than sleeping outside, even though Yvette had no preference either way. She was a Grounder, and Grounders were fierce warriors. "We require nothing at the time," she said in answer to Clarke's question when it became evident the other Grounder planned on saying nothing. Lexa had told them they were free to do what they wished as long as they kept an eye on Clarke and did nothing to jeopardize the Grounder-Arker status.
"What are your plans for the rest of the day?" Yvette asked after giving the room a final look. She was equal parts curious and pragmatic. Even if she didn't want to know, it would be best to find out now rather than just wandering through the Arker camp, seeing what happened along the way, but she felt a tugging in her stomach that urged her to find out more about these strange people.

Yvette had been more than pleased to be put on duty for hunting. While it hadn't exactly been a long time since she'd been out in the forest, she always enjoyed hunting. Her father had taught her that even thought the Trikru were a warrior people, it wasn't about the killing, but about the benefit to the village. She hadn't understood at first - killing an animal was the entire purpose of hunting - but later, she'd realized the meaning in his words, that if you only focused on the killing part of the expedition you were behaving like the Reapers. Which was bitterly ironic, considering that her brother was most likely a Reaper himself, if he wasn't dead. As usual, she was hunting with a partner, and fortunately that partner was someone she got along with well. Since they were friends, it was hardly coincidence that they'd been assigned to work together. They hadn't known each other before they started warrior training, since he came from a distant village, but he lived in Tondc now and they'd gotten to know each other fairly well.
She spotted Alekay coming from halfway down the village street and waved to him. She liked working with the young man. Unlike most other males of his age, he had no interest in trying to get into her bed, and unlike most other members of the village, he seemed to always have a smile on his face. "Yes, ready," she replied, double-checking that she had the necessary weapons. For this outing she had two knives, her bow, and a short sword. Although a spear was typically used, she preferred her sword to it, especially when she knew Alekay would be bringing one himself. "That was one time!" Yvette protested at his question. "And no, I'm not planning to stab you, Alek." Alekay never got tired of teasing her about the time she'd stabbed an overly interested suitor. She rolled her eyes and huffed, but they both knew she didn't mind. "Do you know where the game is running?" Usually they knew where their prey could be found, but occasionally they simply struck out into the forest and hoped to find something edible. Yvette didn't mind either one, but she preferred to know in advance.

| ~ • ~ | History | ~ • ~ |
.:Birthplace:. Tondc .:Family:. Parents deceased; older brother missing, status unknown, suspected Reaper; no other living family .:Occupation:. Warrior .:History:. Yvette was born in Tondc. Her father was one of the tribe's warriors, but her mother took a more domestic role in life. Between her two children, she had plenty to keep her busy. It was clear from a young age that both of them had inherited their father's warrior personality. They started their training as children, sparring with their father, and quickly moved on to prove their proficiency in actual training.
While Yvette's brother, James, took a strength-over-stealth ability, often proving himself capable of killing a man with his bare hands, Yvette took a wider view of training to be a warrior. She studied poisons and stealth as well as learning how to fight with standard Grounder weapons. Her favourites by far are her daggers, but she is also a proficient shot with a bow. The entire tribe is well acquainted with her skill in throwing and using knives, earning her the nickname 'Trueknife' from some people.
Yvette and the males of the tribe were on a hunting expedition when her father was killed trying to rescue a fledgling hunter from a panther-like creature. He survived the journey back to the village but died soon after. James, Yvette, the young hunter, and several other men from the village who had known their father went on a mission to kill the beast, as blood required blood. They succeeded, and both siblings and the young hunter each took a claw from the creature's front paw as a token of remembrance and victory. While Yvette still wears hers, her brother's is currently hanging on a nail protruding from the doorframe of her home. When he disappeared, his claw was found on the ground near the scene of the struggle. The only other clues to his disappearance were the boot marks in the dirt, suggesting he was taken by the Mountain Men.
Yvette's mother died soon after. Left on her own, and of legal age, Yvette soon found herself the object of much attention from the males in the village. After stabbing one of the more enthusiastic suitors, the others backed off and left her in peace. She has no intention of marriage but has been known to take in several orphaned children until they were placed in appropriate homes.
