tag: Faye BatesHadley nodded his head at her words. "Grimm huh?" He ran his hands over the old dusty binds of the books. "I know we have those here...I've read through them numerous times." He smiled. "They're in the back corner....definitely in my top ten" He had read through them and even had some of his kids read the less gruesome ones for book reports. His favorites though? He had many. "My favorites? Oh there are countless..." He thought for a moment. "1984, The Great Gatsby, A Wrinkle in Time, all the classics really." He smiled. "Sorry...I'm a bit of a geek sometimes." He laughed at himself.
He turned a corner into another stack of books finally reaching the back corner where he had pointed out the Grimm fairy tales. "Which Grimm tale is your favorite?" He looked over the titles. "I quite like 'Little Briar-Rose'....Sleeping Beauty....quite a sad and strange yet captivating story." He pulled out the old book flipping through the pages. "I wish more of the Grimm tales had a happy ending..but then again the Grimm brothers had a birth rite to make their stories....well...grim." He chuckled softly.
Hadley lifted his eyes to hers. "Sorry...I just find knowledge interesting. If I talk too much feel free to tell me to stop." He laughed lightly and felt another blush rising to his cheeks. The library was so quiet...no one was around for the weekend. And yet there was so much noise in a quiet space. So many stories waiting to be told. So many voices wanting to be heard. And then the two young adults...learning each others stories...and hearing each others voices....

tag: Faye BatesHadley caught her eye when she squeezed his arm. He smiled back. "You don't have to thank me..." He shook his head. He hadn't even done anything yet. Plus it was the right thing to do...not harm people. But he knew that there were some in Mount Weather who ignored that instinct. The ones responsible for torturing the Grounders. He placed his hand on hers and gave it a gentle squeeze back.
When she agreed to the library, he smiled again and lead her down the twisting halls closer to the end of the hall where the library doors were. He pushed them open and the walls and walls of books were before them. History, fiction, science, art, everything one could imagine lined the cases of books. He looked around and then back at her. "I could spend every day in here." He laughed softly and blushed at his geekiness, thankful for the dim lighting that hid his reddened cheeks.
"What kind of books are you interested in?" He asked walking past one of the long tables, putting his bag down as he continued walking, looking at all the stacks of books. He liked a lot of books...he could read anything and find it interesting. But he had a feeling she had a certain type. And he knew this library like the back of his hand since he spent tons of time while studying for his career. He would show her whatever she wanted.

tag: Faye Bates Hadley chuckled. "Exploring it is." He had no problem calling it that. He knew she was just interested in learning more about his people. That was totally okay with him if it meant she could spend time with her. The elevator stopped and he stepped out, waiting for her. He was thinking of where he could take her. There were only so many places worth seeing. "There's the library? Do you like books?" He asked laughing softly. "There are only so many interesting places to show you."
When she mentioned not being safe, he felt his smile falter. "Look Faye...I'm not promising you that this is the safest place you and your people can possibly be right now." He looked at the ground as they walked to an unknown destination. "But I can promise you that I don't intend to harm you...or hurt you...And I don't have a ton of pull with many people here...but I do have pull with my father being in medical...and I'll do whatever I can to make sure that your people can't get hurt...I don't know what I can do...but I can try." He looked over at her again. He was powerless...but he could talk to people. And try to do anything he could to prevent her and her people from being tortured for no good reason.
Hadley looked around as they landed on Level 5. The mess hall and her residence were on this floor as well as the library. He would go wherever she wanted. His home was a couple of floors lower, but there really was nothing else worth looking at besides that. He didn't want her to be bored. But he also didn't want to just leave her here. He wanted to keep getting to know her...outside of just an outsider or an Arker.

tag: Faye BatesHadley smiled when she agreed to go with him. He wasn't really sure where he could take her, but at least she agreed to go with him. Standing up from his desk, he gathered his papers and books and filled his shoulder bag before slinging it onto his shoulder. He walked to the door waiting for her to follow before he turned off the lights and locked the door.
"So since I caught you snooping down here...where else have you explored?" He asked smirking. He could tell she was one to want to find out about her new surroundings. She already questioned hm and clearly wanted to know more. And he was happy to talk to her. She was kind....intriguing....beautiful....there wasn't anything about her that made him not want to talk to her.
"There's the art storage...that place is pretty cool. Usually guarded...but not on a Friday evening. That is unless you've already broken into there too..." He chuckled softly. "I mean it's pretty cool if you have an interest in art.." He looked around the halls where all of his kids art was displayed. "Art that isn't done by 7 year olds." He laughed again.
He got to the elevator and opened it, letting her step in. Pressing a button to bring them away from the education floors, he leaned against the wall and looked over at her. "What else do you want to know?" He asked softly. He wanted her to know more....if he knew the answers. He knew a lot..but not everything.

tag: Faye BatesHadley was shocked about her answer regarding the airlock. How could people do that to other people? He would never know the answer. Hurting people was never his idea of a good time, but torturing? That was even worse. And what she described sounded just like that. He chuckled softly however at her mention of floating oneself. He would be sure to try and not upset anyone enough to get told that.
He laughed again when she said she had spoken to kids for the past few weeks. "Welcome to my daily life..." He smirked. "I talk to kids all day everyday five days a week." He loved it though. He couldn't imagine another job that he would enjoy more. But he agreed that it could get boring only having children to talk to after a while. "But you can talk to me...I promise I can be more entertaining than kids." He laughed again.
At the sound of her name, he smiled. "Faye...I like that." He didn't know anyone by that name and it fit her personality...and her beauty that was for sure. "Well Faye...what do you say we get out of here...that way you don't have to look at the daily reminder of my students." He chuckled softly. "I don't quite know where we could go...but I am ready to get out of my classroom." He smiled. "What do you say?" He awaited her answer.

Hadley sighed at her words. He wanted her to be right. He wanted to be able to go outside and breath in air that wouldn't kill him. But he knew that that could never happen. "I wish that were true...but I think we are far from that." He gave her a sad smile. He wanted nothing more than to know what it was like to step onto the grass and feel fresh flowing water pass by his fingers. But nothing would ever make him take that treatment. It wasn't worth hurting others to get it.
As she explained the Ark's way of punishment his eyes widened in awe and fear. "Floated? Like into space? Oh that's awful...I'm so sorry...I can't even imagine what that's like...or what it must be like to watch a loved one go through it." He thought he had it bad...but being let out into space? That's awful. This girl was something different and he could tell based on how she spoke to him. She came in here defensive and reserved...but now she was starting to open up. As was he. That was big for him.
When she agreed about being with the same people, he chuckled. "It's just...I don't know...some people here are so boring. I try to hang out with people but they're either like talking to a wall or all pro treatment and I feel weird not participating in the conversation." He shrugged. "But you're obviously not pro treatment...and you're certainly not boring.." He smirked again. "I'm Hadley by the way..." He said softly bringing his eyes back to hers again. It was about time they knew who each other was.

tag: Faye BatesHadley was a little taken aback at her response. Granted he was a little taken aback at his own words. He wasn't usually one to flirt, but it just came out of him. He couldn't take it back now. But it wasn't like she really went for it anyways. Her words about getting out made him chuckle again. "Wouldn't we all..." He looked towards the door. He wished he even knew what the real outside looked like. He had seen pictures, drawings, paintings. But never the real thing. At least she had seen it all. She had no idea how lucky she was. "I really can't help you leave....I'm not quite sure myself of how to get out. I just know some have done it. But my people...not so much. We wouldn't survive out there...not long." He looked over at her.
Her next words only proved that she already knew what his people were doing. He wasn't proud of it. He himself had not agreed to the treatments no matter how badly he wanted to be outside. But he knew about it. His father was employed with the medical bay. But his father didn't participate in the blood draining. He refused. Granted he couldn't refuse his job completely, so he took care of patients post treatments. But he wouldn't subject himself to the actual torture.
When she sat in front of him, he leaned his arms on the desk and leaned on them gently. "Some people know. I know..." He said quietly and let his eyes meet hers. "I'm not proud to know and the only reason I do is because my father works as a doctor in medical." He rubbed his eyes gently. "He takes care of people post treatment. Refuses to help do the actual procedure." He opened his eyes again. "He refuses to undergo the treatment himself, as do I. I won't risk hurting others just so I can escape. No matter how badly I want to go outside" He said keeping his eyes on hers. She had to know that he wasn't one of those Mountain Men intent on hurting others despite what she may think.
Her next question he wasn't so positive on an answer. "That I am unsure of. We knew we weren't alone. We've known about the Grounders....but I'm not really sure why our leaders took so long to 'find' you. Honestly I'm glad we did....people in here can get kind of boring after a while." He smirked at her. He had friends, sure, but he knew all there was to know about them. He knew their quirks and their ticks. He liked to get to know new people, interesting people. This girl was one of those people.

tag: Faye BatesHadley chuckled at her question of his age. "I'm 23 and I teach 7 to 10 year olds." He smiled. "I got the job right out of my studies. I had always loved kids so it was really a no brainer that I'd work as a teacher." He looked around the room again, smiling at the thought of all his kids being back in the classroom again. "I teach them everything really. Math, science, history, english. They all love to learn as much as they can which is quite unheard of with kids...makes my job that much easier." He laughed again.
At her mention of questions, he brought his eyes back to her. Ah, so there was a catch. He smirked sweetly. "I can't say I am that interested in you and your people." He let his smirk turn into a smile before he chuckled once more. "What I can say is I have an interest when beautiful young women walk into my classroom unannounced just 'looking at the paintings' outside my room." He smirked again. He knew she had to have been snooping. Her people were outsiders here. Her people were different. Just as he and his people were different to her. He wasn't quite sure where that surge of confidence came from, but he was going to go with it.
He did have lots of questions for her. But she was more interested in his people. He could tell. "What is it you want to know?" He asked, sitting back in his chair, leaning against the blackboard watching her. He was an open book as long as he wouldn't get her or himself in trouble. The school day was done, but he could still educate someone else.

tag: Emilia TuckerHadley would never have the right answers for this situation. He had never been through it himself. He couldn't even imagine losing the person he loved in the same moment as losing his child. It would be mortifying and probably kill him. But Emilia was being so strong...even telling him about it had to take a lot of strength. He was lost in his own thoughts until he felt her hand on top of his. He looked down at their connected hands and then back up at her when he heard her voice again.
He smiled warmly. "Sometimes you need to talk about it...you lost the two people you love most in one instant..." he said softly, not sure where his mind was going with all of this, but went with it anyway. "Work can only be a distraction for so long....after a- after a while life creeps back up on you..and well...you remember why you had to distract yourself in the first place." He squeezed her hand gently. "It's okay to cry...it's okay to miss them..." He swiped his thumb under her eye once more to grab a fallen tear that had escaped both of them before.
"I-I know we just met...and I'm your sworn enemy, but" He stopped and looked into her eyes again. "I'm not here to judge you or make you upset. I promise..." He gave her a soft, consoling smile. "So please, what can I do to make you feel better?" He didn't know what he could possibly do, but if she wanted it, he would find a way to make it happen.

tag: Emilia TuckerHadley didn't try to look into her eyes when she started to speak. She seemed pretty light hearted about the idea of her fiance having gotten her the ring and being in his living room. He didn't want to feel like he was causing her to be unfaithful to her fiance by being here. That was never his intention. He just wished he had known that she was involved with someone else. He would have never been as bold, if you could call it that, with her had knew known.
But her next words brought him straight out of his thoughts. He was...he was dead? Her fiance. He died with their child? Hadley's demeanor changed in an instant getting up quickly to find a tissue. Coming back to sit next to her, he brushed the tissue over her cheeks catching any tears that fell. "Oh Em...I'm sorry." He said softly. "I-I didn't mean to offend you or-or make you talk about something so awful." He said as he continued to wipe her tears. "I-I didn't know...I'm sorry." He whispered and brought his hand away from her face.
"I didn't mean to upset you." He felt so stupid. He shouldn't have said anything. He shouldn't have even invited her in. He should have just let her escort him to her apartment and nothing else. But instead he made the mistake of thinking something when clearly it was another. He couldn't even imagine losing the one he loved, especially so tragically. He placed his hand on hers once more. "Honestly...I'm sorry...I don't even know what to say...except I'm sorry." He said softly.

tag: Emilia TuckerHadley watched as she practically brushed off the idea of being scared when he mentioned turning it off. But when she shrieked and grabbed onto him, he chuckled softly and smirked down at her. "I told you it'd be scary." He placed his hand over hers even after she loosened her grip. "Don't apologize...I was scared watching it for the first time too." He smiled and looked down at where his hand was over hers. He liked the idea of his hand on hers, her hand on his arm. He didn't anticipate anything happening, he was happy with just whatever this was, but he liked where things were.
But when he looked down again, he saw a shimmer against her finger from the screen. A ring? And on her left hand no less. Was she married? She didn't mention a husband, just her son. But then again it would make sense that she was married if she had a kid. But then why did she come in with him? Why did she accept his request for wine and a movie? Where was her husband? So many thoughts were running through his head.
"Oh..um..sorry" He didn't know what to say. His entire demeanor changed from excited and content to disappointed and sad. He slowly let his hand drop from hers and back into his lap, keeping his eyes on the movie again. He didn't want her to not enjoy herself. Maybe she just needed a night away from her husband and he was just here to be a friend. That'd be fine too, but why didn't she tell him about her husband? He was confused more than anything....

Hadley heard her breathing quicken and equated it to the fact that the movie was a different experience for her. The scares were around every corner in this film and it was perfectly reasonable for her to be acting that way. He did the first time he watched it. The opening scene was enough to set the mood that this was not going to be a funny movie. But suddenly he felt her demeanor change. She was engaged in the film. He could see it.
At her question, he chuckled softly. It was a whispered question of awe. "No practical use whatsoever..." he whispered back. "The only thing scary movies are useful for is to teach you not to lock yourself inside a closet when there is a killer in the house." He smiled down at her. "If it gets too scary, we can turn it off...I'm sorry I don't have anything....well not scary." He chuckled again and then looked down at his hands before back at the film. He was trying his best to make this seem normal.
For petes sake he just met this woman. She was the guard to his classroom. What was he even thinking? It wasn't a normal thing to invite your personal guard to your apartment never mind for a glass of wine and a movie. But for some reason he couldn't bring himself to end the night. He wanted to get to know her, to make her feel normal here. Even though her people overtook his, it was still a new environment for her. He wanted her to make this her home too...so if it meant opening up his home to her, then he would do it..no matter how beautiful he thought she was...

tag: Emilia TuckerHadley chuckled at her words. "Well then I am happy to show you one of your firsts!" He smiled. The screen was about the size of a laptop, so not too big but also not too small. It worked for whenever he wanted to watch something so hopefully it wouldn't be terribly small for two people. But he couldn't imagine that Emilia would have a problem considering she hadn't really watched movies before, especially if she was used to this size with training. This would be just right.
Hadley stood up, after placing the screen between them, and turned on the tableside lamp farthest from them. Then he went to the door where they came in and placed a finger on the light switch. "I-uh...I hope you don't mind if I turn this big light off...it kind of makes a glare on the screen..." He said softly as he turned off the overhead light. The side table added a nice glow to the room so that it wasn't completely dark. He didn't want her to think he was trying anything....as much as he wanted to, he just wanted the environment to be perfect for the movie.
Going back to the couch, he sat down and then moved a bit closer to her so that they'd be able to share the screen easily. He swallowed the lump in his throat now that they were immediately side by side. Grabbing a pillow, he placed it on their knees and then put the screen on the pillow so it sort of propped itself up between them. Pulling open the case of movies he had taken from the box on the ground, he dug around past all the educational ones until he found the first scary one he saw. The Blair Witch Project. It was scary, but she wouldn't know the difference if it was her first film. Besides, he would be with her the whole movie. It was much scarier if you watched alone.
Pulling it out, he placed it into the device and let it load. "Well...here we go then." He smiled and pressed play as the pre-movie music began. He was excited for her to experience this but also excited at the idea of her being so much closer to him now...she was breaking down her walls slowly but surely and for that he was grateful. Taking a sip of wine, he placed his glass back on the table before resting his hand on the pillow between them.

tag: Faye BatesHadley looked up as as a girl walked into his classroom. He returned her smile though he could tell hers was much more forced than his own. His status as a Mountain Man was certainly not missed by her he was sure of it. "Hi there...can I help you?" He asked kindly, putting his pen down as to give the girl his full attention. He didn't want to seem rude and make it as if he were ignoring her. At her mention of the pictures, he smiled. "My students pride themselves on their artwork, something they do to pass the time during class. A lot of them don't get to play at home, so art here is what keeps them happy." He pointed around the room. "It's everywhere." he chuckled.
His students did artwork nearly every day. He even had some hung up in his apartment. Many of his students often gave him pictures they had drawn for his birthday or other holidays. It was very sweet but eventually he was going to run out of room. He wasn't so sure who this young woman was. She was certainly not from the Mountain as he would have recognized her. She had to be from the Ark; from the sky.
Since these people had come down he had become increasingly more interested in them. What they were like, who they were, what their genetic make up was. How was it they could walk freely outside the walls of the Mountain. How had they survived outside for so long with all the dangers that lurked there. There was so much he wanted to know but honestly none of the Arkers really wanted anything to do with him or his people. The Mountain was merely a stopping ground for them to recoup and gather supplies. They didn't see it as a home like he and his people did.

Hadley watched as Emilia took the glass to her lips and took a sip. Seeing her lick her lips, he had to look away before he thought things he shouldn't. He took another sip of wine and then put his glass down with a soft chuckle. He was surprised to hear that she had never had anything like wine before. "My dad has friends up at the medical wing who always give him wine for holidays, birthdays. Special occasions mostly. But he doesn't really drink alcohol. After work I usually need a glass of wine to relax, especially after a tough day...so he almost always gives the bottles to me." He smiled. "Not that I mind." He laughed again.
Her surprise at his having films shocked him. Had she never seen a movie? I guess it made sense considering where she came from. He nodded his head and pushed himself up off of the couch. "I mean I have mostly educational ones to show the students from time to time, but I tend to sneak out a few recreational ones for myself that don't always revolve around science and math." He chuckled and knelt on the ground digging through a box of old films. "I only really have scary films though...there aren't exactly many to choose from in the storage that we have here." He turned to face her. "I hope that would be okay?" He asked referring to the idea of a horror movie. Not that he would mind having a beautiful woman next to him during a scary film.
Hadley walked back to the couch, sitting once more, a reasonable distance away and grabbed a portable like screen from his coffee table. An original portable that had been passed down through his family from the first Mountain residents. "I only have a bigger screen in my classroom so I just use this one...since it's usually just me watching. It runs on a charge so I only ever plug it in like once a week...Kinda nice." He smiled and then let out an awkward laugh. He was blabbering. "But um...if you were interested in it, we could watch?" He asked again. He didn't mean to be so awkward but he couldn't help it.
