.:Name:. Jacques Roux [zhahk / roo]
.:Nick Name:. Roux; "Aquaboy"
.:Affiliation:. The Arkers; Delinquent
.:Age:. 17
| ~ • ~ | Appearance | ~ • ~ |
.:Physical Appearance:. Jacques is of a medium build with an athletic tone and otter-style body type. What he lacks in height, he more than makes up for in aesthetics; sporting deep brown hues and medium brown hair and an olive skin complexion. While he may be found with or without facial hair, depending upon the day, it is always well-kept and groomed to be well maintained and lackluster as compared to most full-bearded men. A full set of pearlescent canines are typically accompanied with a cocky half-grin that seems to be a cliche notion from the boy. His most notable features, aside from his ego, are arguably said to be his stylized hair or deadly brow game.
.:Height:. 5'7
.:Portrayed by:. Francisco Lachowski

.:Personality:. Snarky and sassy, egoism is one of a few narcissistic traits that plague Jacques Roux. This, however, is a common defense mechanism to deter many from truly discovering the soft underbelly that exists beneath all that pride. Though he may be commonly called an 'asshole', he's hard not to at least find humorous -- as long as his venomous tongue is directed elsewhere. Rebellious and hard-headed are qualities familiar to the boy. He finds fun and excitement in both bending and breaking the rules and is hardly a conformist. That being said, it would have been hard for him not to fall in line behind Bellamy's original mindset upon first reaching the Ground, "Whatever the hell we want!"
Though he may be rough around the edges, he is fiercely loyal to those that he forms attachment to or toward those that first prove themselves worthy. That being said however, the boy is fiercely ambitious and quite unafraid of attacking and getting precisely what he wants. Certainly the aggressor and the initiator on many things, it would come as little surprise to learn of Roux's competitive nature. But because of his great fear of failure, he often hunts within his territory and only pursues things he knows himself to be good at or only tackles tasks that he knows he'll excel at.
.:Special Skills:. Extensive knowledge in aquaculture, marine biology and aquatic agriculture. Though he may be lackluster in physical strength, he greatly makes up for it with high endurance and stamina. Experience and personal know-how in regards to marina flora and fauna. Due to his being raised a part of Hydra Station, he has learned and practiced the ability to swim and maneuver through water-type terrain. His ability to talk or manipulate his way into or out of situations is quite skillful, except for his inability to talk his way out of Lockup.

.:Birthplace:. The Ark
.:Family:. Adriana Roux (Mother - Deceased); Ramon Roux (Father - Unknown)
.:Occupation:. Aquaculture Student (Hyrda Station); Delinquent
.:History:. Jacques' birth aboard the Ark was nothing too normal. So much so, that his first breath into the world sentenced his mother to her last. Quite the unusual case, especially considering he was the first and only child of Ramon and Adriana Roux -- marine biologists aboard the Hydra Station on the Ark. It could be said that Jacques inherited his stubborn, head strong nature from his mother. Adriana Roux suffered many complications while pregnant, and on a realistic standard her son should have not survived the birthing process. Such a miracle was simply not possible. On Earth, perhaps, but not floating aboard a satellite station miles and miles above the Ground. Medical had deemed it false hope, and the family had come to terms in coping with saying 'goodbye' to the young boy they'd never have the chance to meet. All except Adriana, however, who had plans of her own...
Much to the dismay and protest of her husband, Adriana knew of one way that would yield to a much higher success rate of her son seeing life. The woman may not have been a specialist in human biology, but she did have an incredible expanse of knowledge in regards to aquatic biology and the amazing regenerative qualities that water offered. Years of research and know-how had made her a great asset to the Hydra Station's team of aquaculture specialists. It was because of this 'know-how' that she decided to take all necessary risk when child labor struck. In fact, she had planned for it. And part of this planning was the understanding of sacrifice that would have to take place in order for the birth of Jacques Roux to have the best chance possible -- a water birth.
Jacques did not have the easiest upbringing, never having had the chance to develop a relationship with his mother or to even have a semblance of memory regarding the first woman he should have come to known. Adriana Roux was floated, having been found guilty of her crimes post the birth of her son and sentenced to capital punishment. Rebellion was a learned trait her son developed early on, blaming the Council and lifestyle aboard the Ark for what happened to his mother.
His relationship with his father was estranged, Ramon finding it hard not to blame the boy for the loss of his beloved. The two were more like roommates at times than actual father/son. Ramon dove deep into his research and research was perhaps the only thing really tying the duo together -- both relating aquaculture to the memory of the woman they both shared connection with. Ramon at least had memories to cling to, Jacques however did not. It became hard to not share in a fascination for water-based study and the idea of water in general. Not only was it a commodity and rarity aboard the Ark, but it was also the one element that reminded him of his mother. And so, in a desperate attempt to finally fill that void he'd always lacked, Jacques made a decision similar to that his mother had 16 years before -- only his was much, much more selfish..
After hours one evening, Jacques broke into the aqua tanks kept aboard a secure location within Hydra Station, only accessible to aquaculture biologists and technicians (luckily he knew where his father kept the very access card he needed to bypass the locked terminal). The boy had never really learned to swim, but he had studied it through text teachings in books many, many times. And so that night he did. He defied common law and swam, for the first time in his life. But what was seen as reckless and foolish to many, Jacques only saw as a moment in time. "A lifetime of freedom sacrificed for your moment," as his father had so put it. But that moment was worth the year he spent in Lockup before being sent to the Ground. Because in that moment, he felt for the first time, his mothers love all around him.
This act adopted him the common nickname of "Aquaboy" among many fellow Arkers.
