"Two children without a father being involved?" she asked with a playful grin. "You sky people are very strange." She didn't mean it as an insult at all, she just couldn't wrap her mind around the technology. How could anyone make a child without two partners? How could Skaikru technology make a child. "And you are ambitious..." Again her tone was teasing as she wrapped her arms around Clarke and kissed her shoulder from behind. "We don't have to decide now at all... but I think that we should." Niylah moved to continue cooking their dinner as she thought about it. Having a family up in their mountain home would be beautiful. They would be safe, cared for and have everything that they needed.
"Have you ever thought about possibly opening a post here? Especially if we have a family." Niylah smiled softly and looked over at Clarke in the candlelight. "We wouldn't need to travel... It would be in a few years, so nobody would recognize you even if they knew your face." Niylah tilted her head with curiosity, wondering what she would think of it. They didn't make their home a trading post because of the issues that Niylah ran into back in her old home. Plus, people searched for Wanheda. Keeping her safe was hard when people were passing through all the time.

Niylah lived for the hunt, even in these dangerous times. The mountain was picking them off one by one while Azgeda was pushing Trikru back—expanding their territory. Niylah was no warrior though... She was merely a trader’s daughter. While her mother watched the shop with her father, she had time to take her mutt Swis out for a go at some of the bigger prey the woods had to offer. With her bow held and ready, she and the wolf dog silently made their way through the thick woods. Snow fell deep enough that the tracks of a rather large deer were clear. Tracking was simple enough. Even through the snow, Niylah’s steps were careful. Her mutt trailed behind her, but with a sharp bark Niylah’s attention was pulled away from tracking the beast. An arrow flew for her. By some miracle, it missed her head by a matter of inches. She drew back the bowstring—eyes searching for the hunter or warrior that attacked but before she had a chance to react Swis leaped at the Azgeda warrior.
“HOD OP!” she snarled at the pup moments before the warrior shot another arrow into the beasts chest. Niylah let out a snarl—a cry as she released the arrow she’d drawn. She shot the bastard clean through the neck. He fell hard, choking on blood while Niylah searched the trees for another. Adrenaline was running through her. She had no time for guilt or mourning as the two creatures lay dying. In the snow, their armor was so difficult to see, but a slight movement in the corner of her eye was enough. She let another arrow fly—hitting one of the attackers in the stomach before she moved closer. There were only two of them. One dead, the other dying and she knew she had to finish the job. Her hands shook as she stalked through the mess of chilled bush to get to her mark—but when she saw his face there was a moment of hesitation there. The arrow wasn’t fatal... seeing his face made killing the bastard that much more difficult, even if his partner killed her pet. Once again she drew, aiming the arrow at the man’s face as she hesitated. She was no murderer... or perhaps she was now.
“Get up,” she growled, not sure if he could. Hell, there could be more of them... there was something familiar about this one though.

When she was given permission, Niylah shifted Gena so that she could rest against the folded furs she used as pillows to try to make her more comfortable. Peeling off her shirt was a tricky task. So much blood had soaked into the fabric and stuck against her skin and her injuries. By pulling off the second skin, she made more wounds bleed. Truthfully, the slow pace of the bleeding worried Niylah. It meant she'd lost a lot of blood already, and if she succumbed to the cold there would be nothing more she could do for the woman. Quickly though, Niylah pressed bandages against the open wounds and riffled through the healing herbs that they had. There had to be something to help... "Polis? They won't get very far," Niylah said lightly. The way Gena spoke of the assassin made Niylah wonder if there were people she cared about in the capital.
"Our capital is heavily guarded, especially around our Heda... If an assassin tries to attack Polis, they will die quickly." Niylah pressed red weeds against the deeper wounds and was quick to hold them in place with linen. She didn't trust herself to cauterize the wounds without help. If she were to do it, she would have to find a way to put Gena to sleep first. The screams would hinder Niylah's ability to work... "You're lucky to be alive, Gena kom Skaikru.... I can't think of anyone who could have made it this far in such abusive company..." She wondered why they were in the mountain... the place was stained with the blood of all their friends and ancestors. Why on earth would they be in a place like that?

Roan's voice rang clear and hard over the struggle, but the command wasn't what made her attacker let go of the chord. Roan stormed in and grabbed him, making the assassin drop Niylah once again. She fell to the floor hard; slipping on the blood on her hands before she turned around to watch as her husband dragged the man out of the room. She held her hand to her neck and watched the nothingness with wide eyes, hearing only strangled gurgling as Roan slit his throat. She knew the sound of a man choking on his own blood... She didn't need to see it to know what happened. When he came back in, she barely heard him over her raging pulse. Adrenaline was a tricky thing. The danger was gone but her defences were sharp.
"Why did he--" That was a stupid question. Stupid questions weren't worth the breath it took to ask them... at least that was what her father would say if she asked him something so ridiculous. She checked her neck; making sure that the blood on her hands was not coming from the thin wound there. It wasn't... Only her hands bled. "I'm okay," she said quickly as she pressed her hands against the loose linen throw she wore. Slowly she stood, leaning against the wall and looking at Roan... Her expression was thick with gratitude, though still shocked with confusion. "Do... your people hate this union that much?" she asked weakly with a frown. "Will there be others that come for my head?" What if he wasn't there next time.... she certainly didn't feel safe in this room.

When Aurora spoke, Niylah tried not to react. They barely exchanged words, but she had such a maternal air about her. It was strange having words like that spoken in such a way to her... Normally she was the one who cared for others. After her mother was taken, Niylah had said goodbye to ever being treated in such a way again. Though, she was an adult. One could not be a child forever. Slowly she shook her head and sat with her to help with the yarn. "No... I'm not hungry," she said lightly as she looked at the cuff around Aurora's ankle. She could break it open... Unscrew the clasp and let Aurora wander. Being chained up like an animal was demeaning for anyone. Reluctantly, Niylah resisted the urge.
"You have children," she commented gently. It wasn't just because she heard bits of the argument. The way she spoke was the way of a mother. It reminded Niylah of her own mother which made the pit in her stomach grow evermore. They were holding somebody's mother as a slave. Her child, or children probably thought that their mother was gone and Niylah knew first hand that it was the worst feeling in the world. "What are their names?"

Though Niylah wasn't exactly thrilled about more time on the road, she knew that Roan's method of travel would be much more comfortable than the splinter ridden wooden cart her father brought her in. Still, it was his words about the eternal night that made her smile. "My mother used to tell me stories about it... She had some friends she would trade with in the north... She said that sometimes the sky would light up with blues and greens-- sometimes even reds and yellows; like waves of color." Her tone was almost dreamy. There were so many things that her mother had told her about from her younger years. Some may have been exaggerated for a sense of whimsy but Niylah believed them with all her heart. "She would paint pictures of it..." Niylah took Roan's hand hesitantly. His tough skin was met with her own... She wasn't a warrior, but her hands were that of a worker not a maid.
"Were her stories true?" Niylah asked with genuine curiosity as she walked with Roan. "I was a child when she told me these stories... Sometimes we remember things differently as children." She chuckled at the thought, knowing she could have imagined beautiful lights dancing across the sky. The most beautiful thing she had ever seen were flying stars across the sky. Sometimes they would break into pieces and turn to flame... There were strange happenings with the sun and moon, but nothing like her mother had described. When they got to the carriage it was more than Niylah had expected. The smooth furs inside were clearly meant for warmth and comfort, but the size of it was surprising. This was clearly a cart meant for royalty. Not a trader's daughter. "Will you be riding with me?" She asked curiously. She needed to look up at him when she spoke, but she didn't mind it.

| TRY NOT TO RUN FROM THIS FREEDOM ALWAYS HAS A PRICE TO PAY |
It was the third night after the ceremony, but Niylah had a room of her own. Roan wasn’t going to force her into sharing a bed with him so soon... Though, she’d certainly thought about it. He was everything that she didn’t expect... Still, she was thankful for the time apart for now. Her room was much nicer than her hut by the wood stove... Her bed was so comfortable she didn’t stir when her door was opened. There were still some who were not supporters of the alliance between Azgeda and Trikru. They wanted to sabotage it. Only, the man in her room was not a loud protestor, but instead he held a wire chord in his hands, ready to strike. He was here for her life. Trikru would blame Azgeda for her murder... They would think twice before giving Azgeda one of their own.
The assassin was quick. He pulled Niylah from her bed and wrapped the chord tightly around her neck. She was barely awake as he hung her, pulling her against his chest with the chord. Her hands moved to it; trying to pry the sharp wire from her neck as she struggled to gasp for breath. She couldn’t even scream. With blurred vision, she reached out for a vase by her bedside and slammed it against her attackers head blindly. It made him stagger and drop Niylah, but she was quick to move away. The stuggle was loud as he reached for her again to strangle her with the chord. She managed to get her hand between the wire and her skin, which gave her some room to breathe, but the wire cut into her.
“Get off!” She said as loud as she could; kicking wildly. She didn’t have a weapon, but she managed to grab a shard of glass in her hand. Though it cut her, she swung back with the sharp edge and aimed to stab him in the neck. Instead she got his shoulder, but he let out a sound of pain.

"I'd like to meet your mother," Niylah said with a small grin. She knew the relationship was an odd one. It was nothing like the relationship that Niylah had with her mother before the mountain claimed her. Niylah's mother was the kind of woman who was so selfless, so kind that she made a good man out of Niylah's father. She taught Niylah everything that she knew about the world and spent every moment she could with her. It was such a long time ago, but she still remembered it fondly. Clarke was such an incredible person... Niylah knew that a lot of her lover's personality came from her father, but that didn't mean her mother didn't have a part to play. "Maybe when we go to Arkadia?"
When Clarke asked about adoption or pregnancy, Niylah couldn't help the slight cringe. No, she wasn't opposed to pregnancy, but the idea of another lying with Clarke was strange. Niylah was a little possessive, though she would never admit it. If pregnancy was what Clarke wanted, then she would of course be open to it. "There are always children in villages that need homes, but they find them fairly quickly..." Niylah bit her lip as she thought about it. "If you'd like to have a child, we can do it... I've always loved infants," she said with a soft chuckle. "I'll admit the idea of somebody else fathering our child is strange, but it has been done before."

Niylah looked up at him with a subtle smile of her own when she saw the boyish grin. He was handsome... She'd never seen the ice prince-- or rather ice king for herself in this way. She had only heard stories of his skill in combat, or his exile. When she saw him in the trading post, it was as a man searching for a woman she was protecting. There was no time to appreciate his looks under his disguise. His words seemed to be spoken with pride- like he had found it. He thought more of her than anyone did and he barely knew a thing about her. Especially if it was from her father's lips. She wasn't surprised that he had talked about her beauty... Not because Niylah felt that she was that beautiful, but because her father had developed an attitude towards people... He would talk about them like objects to be traded, which in this case he wasn't far off.
"Whatever problems I have had with Azgeda in the past are in the past." She said boldly. It wasn't an easy statement, but she could move on from any previous prejudices she had. If she was to be Roan's wife, Azgeda wouldn't harm her... The alliance would prove stronger than the coalition. Niylah looked up at her surroundings when he asked her if she had questions. Truth be told, she was still lost with surprise. So much had shifted and changed in so little time she wasn't sure what she should be asking. "When will we be married?" She asked after a moment. Her eyes locked back onto his and she made sure to keep her voice steady... "I... don't know where I'll be staying either," she said sheepishly; not sure where to go.

Slave trading was not permitted under Heda’s rules, but that didn’t mean that the trade was dead. Too often women and prisoners of war were sold by masters to others who would use them for labor, sex or whatever else they could think of. Niylah wanted no part, but she knew her father dabbled in the trade. Still, she never expected him to buy one himself. Especially not a Skaikru slave... It had been weeks since he’d bought her, and though he was kind to her, Niylah knew her father had an explosive temper. She’d been kept awake by their fighting the night before and she knew he must have struck her. When they went quiet she was worried for her safety and did not sleep much for the night.
He was gone when she awoke for the first time in months. No doubt hunting to quell the loneliness he felt. Once she pitied him, but now she was frustrated. He’d spent every day in the post with Aurora but now he was gone... so what did he intend to do with the woman he’d purchased? Niylah pushed the sheet to her room aside and looked at Aurora with confusion. It was the first time the two were alone and the first time she’d seen an iron cuff around Aurora’s ankle with a long chain attached. It made her stomach twitch. “Are you alright?” She asked her in her own tongue. Her voice was low—wary of the woman she’d barely spoken to.

Niylah was proud of the Skaikru girl’s abilities. She was well spoken and it would be enough to keep her father off her case. Especially after Niylah got her dressed and her curls under control. “Good, that’s very good.” She said lightly as she looked over the wounds with a deep frown. She didn’t know what happened. Burns, cuts, bruising so deliberate they had to be inflicted by the Azgeda assassin. Truth be told there were so many injuries that Niylah didn’t know where to start. She was so overwhelmed and she was no healer. She knew how to clean and dress a wound but there was so much blood already seeping into the furs on which she sat. “It’s... bad,” she said quietly before standing up and pulling the thin sheet of cotton that separated her space from the post.
“I am not a healer,” she said in a low voice as she gathered some herbs together and more bandages. The hot water that rested on the wood burning stove was warm enough now that it would clean most of the dirt away. “I’m sorry... I know it’s probably not what you want, but can I please undress you so I can see the rest of your injuries? I have to know what I can fix.” Her frown was so deep her head ached as she looked over the bruising. “What did he do to you?”

Niylah didn’t understand what Clarke meant by the one. It was an old, pre-apocalyptic saying. She had the same confusion she did when she heard the words “float you” or anything like that. Clarke had explained some of them, but Niylah could figure out what Clarke meant on her own. The one; the one she wanted to be with? Perhaps even the one she was meant to be with. It made Niylah smile with silent pride as she cleaned up the cut. “You are my family,” she said without a hint of hesitation. Clarke was everything to her... But then Clarke added... if she was stable enough. It made Niylah frown and reach up to cup her face.
Her thumbs traced her cheekbones and her lips lightly pressed against her forehead. “You’re stable enough, Clarke... What we have is rare and... special.” Niylah smiled softly and tucked Clarke’s hair behind her ears as she looked at her intently. “You would be an incredible mother to any child, and if it is something that you want to pursue I am more than happy to take that journey with you.” Niylah’s smile was soft, but the idea made her so happy her eyes burned with emotion. “I would love to start a family with you... Don’t ever think that you’re too unstable for it.”

Niylah watched silently, shocked and confused while she listened to Roan. It was easier to look away from the look of betrayal in her father’s eyes and watch Roan as he commanded the guards to escort him out. She felt a twinge of guilt. No girl could take care of the post like she could, and it was one of the hardest things to turn her back on... She worried for her. Though, Roan said she was willing. Slaves were nothing to be handed out—and that is what Niylah felt like. That was until Roan turned to her. She could decline... Her eyes were on him, wide with inner turmoil. How... did you make these decisions. Her father sold her in hopes of gaining power... Azgeda was hostile, violent and downright terrifying but that was because of their queen.
“I didn’t understand why you chose me,” she said quietly. This was true. She wasn’t the prettiest woman he could have chosen, or the brightest—she wasn’t important enough for something like this, but the fact that he chose her to put distance between her and her father changed things. She knew her father had become abusive—whether intentionally or not... it was all she’d known for a long while. “I won’t decline it... you’ve gone through quite a bit of effort.” She tugged her sleeves and looked down with her lips pressed together. “Azgeda... have attacked the trading post my father owns before. I’ve killed... at least five of your people. I’m not very important to Trikru... I don’t know why you want me.”

The gun pointed at her made Niylah all the more uneasy, especially as Bellamy stood between them. She couldn’t lose him, or her unborn child. This was why she held the weapon still, even though the mans words did pull at her. She thought... maybe if they explained themselves he would understand and let them go. Of course Niylah didn’t understand the animosity in Pike’s heart for her people. She didn’t understand that hatred, even though she herself had been wronged by Azgeda as well, on more than one occasion. These people saw them all as the same, which was what was so confusing to her. “No,” she said flatly, though she wanted to believe this could be handled peacefully.
“There is nothing to talk out. We’re leaving,” she took Bellamy’s hand and looked at him with wide eyes. “Beja, Bellamy,” she mumbled as she squeezed his hand. Please. She didn’t understand the gravity of the situation. They were stuck... All Niylah wanted to do was run, but even if they got away what then?
