“Sadly your Dad can’t make oxygen magically appear.” Back when he was a baby, she could have told him that. She could have told him all would be well because his dad was watching over him and his dad was great and good at watching over people and he watched over everyone, but especially Bellamy, but now things were different. Bellamy was a grown man, the illusions were long since gone. Aurora stroked her sons cheeks. Her heart still felt heavy, but what was she supposed to do? Her son was about to kill himself and he spoke of faith in this impossible quest. The future was impossible on the Ark. The limited resources would only last so long. She had felt that before in her life, but now she knew things were worse than she tried to make herself belief all this time.
“Please don’t ask me to believe in something that’s about to take the most important person in my life away. I can’t do that, Bellamy. There is… I won’t be able to have faith in anything, when this kills my son, my only child.” Aurora felt the tears in her eyes again. She felt so hopeless right now. There was no chance of hope without their son. “Don’t ask that of me, Bellamy, please. Please don't ask me to have hope. I can't hope in anything. What am I supposed to have hope in? You're our future.”

whatever THE HELL WE WANT She told him not to ask her to believe in something . . . that was going to take him away. That made the guilt weigh heavily on Bellamy's heart, seeing the pain he was putting his mother through, the tears in her eyes. Her touch gave him comfort, but he also knew that their time together was so limited. He couldn't change his mind, he knew that. This was where he was needed; where he should be, what he should be doing.
"I'm just asking you to believe in dad. Please." His words had turned into a plea, because he wanted her to have that hope. To hear that he was her future, that he was his parents future . . . it broke his heart to know that he would be deprivng them of that. But just as soon as the pain came, so did the realization that this could also help secure his parents' future. This could be what gave them a chance for a future. It was enough to continue to provide him with the confidence and strength he needed. But he would not -- could not -- say that.
He didn't want to put his death on either of their conscience by saying he was doing it for them. "There are going to be many sons, daughters, fathers, mothers, that will be grieving from this. You and dad are two of the strongest people I know. Find a way to save everyone. We don't believe that our deaths will be in vain, because none of those people stepping in that room, myself included, will regret what we're doing." They were doing it for their loved ones . . . and he wanted so desperately for his mother to understand that. He could of course understand her grief as well, but it was all Bellamy could do to reassure her and provide her comfort where he knew his actions would not.

Have faith in Marcus, of course she did, but things were changing. If he wanted her to have faith in him, believe in him, how could he do this to him? His father was on the council. His father had seen this as a solution and pushed for it, wanting to save people. His father was only human, too. His father… Aurora knew him, he wasn’t made of stone, he was caring, he wanted peace and prosperity for his people, just like Bellamy, but she couldn’t see how Marcus should ever recover from this, how she should do this. She couldn’t see him making it out of this unscathed. In the end, she felt like he would feel like he killed his son. Bellamy would put his life on his father’s conscience. Where was that fair? Aurora didn’t know what to do about it. She felt helpless. She was helpless. She couldn’t save Bellamy, because he wouldn’t let her. And she couldn’t protect her husband from that. She couldn’t protect any of them and it broke her heart. All those years and she could neither protect her son, nor her husband.
“Bellamy…” Aurora began. He was still saying all of that, but what hope was there for them? To go to the Ground, that was it. But how? There was simply no way for everyone, so what was the point in this now? It was so very pointless and there was nothing she could do. If it wasn’t for Marcus, she would go in there with him. If it wasn’t for her not wanting him to suffer from both their ends, she would leave this world with her son, but she couldn’t abandon her husband, not through this. She wanted to tell him, but she couldn’t. It was still Veras words, that warned her of it. Instead she said something from deep within. “I’m scared.”

whatever THE HELL WE WANT The beginning of her words made him wonder what was coming next. He could hear it in her tone, and was bracing himself for it. This entire situation, having to say goodbye to his parents in this way, was not something he ever thought he need to. He'd never planned on getting floated -- then again, he supposed no one ever actually planned on doing it. But if he had to die somehow, what better way to do it than by protecting the people one loved. Hearing her admit that she was scared, caused him to pause, tht familiar ache in his heart intensifying.
He wanted to admit the same to her. That he was scared He was and he wasn't at the same time. He was scared of how this may affect his family, and Braeden of course . . . but he wasn't scared of death itself. "Remember what you used to tell me whenever I was afraid?" He asked her, a very small smile on his lips, though it was far from jovial. "Fear is a demon." She had taught him that, helped him stay brave. Slay the demon. Tell it that you were not afraid. It was words he would remember when he stepped into that room, and when he took his last breath.

“Fear is a demon, yes.” It was a demon especially when she feared for him, for Marcus, it was a demon, because it made her weak, but in the end there was the good kind of fear, worry, that allowed her to care for the two people she cared for the most. And she feared for them every day, but she never let it rule her, never let it bring her to her knees or make her useless because she couldn’t function anymore. She lived with it, fought it in order to be the best mother and wife she could be for them, maybe it was part of being a good mother and wife, but all that didn’t matter. Right now the fear was overwhelming, no matter how hard she tried not to let it rule her. Right now she was allowed to be afraid.
“Sadly, Bellamy, that’s a fear I will have to live with.” She move her hands down to take his. He would not back down from his plan and she feared for her husband more than anything. He might try to remain strong, he might succeed, but in the end, Aurora knew they would not go out of it without wounds to their hearts. His wounds were more important to her than her own. “I’ll always fear for you and your father. That is one fear that I will never be able to shake.” She looked at him again. She was fearing of him already, but at the same time she questioned if this was part of why he chose it? He was scared and he was strong enough to beat the most essential fear a human could have: The fear of death itself. It was impressive in the end. Aurora pulled him into another hug. “My brave boy.” They would forever miss him, there was no recovering from this, but she had to recognize some form of bravery in his decision. “I brought something, for you.”
