"Tri-ged-a-sleng," Jaga repeated, correcting Harper's pronunciation by enunciating every syllable of the word. Jaga's first instinct to was to tell Harper no. To tell Harper to shut up for the rest of the night, or however long this storm lasted. She didn't want to keep talking, especially not with Skaikru. But... she had been alone for a while. Longer than just since fleeing Polis. Part of her did want to keep talking.
Then she had an idea that she thought might be entertaining for at least a little while. "Kei." Okay. "Start simple. Ai laik Jaga kom Trikru. You laik Harper kom Skaikru," she said. She needed to get an understand of how much Trigedasleng Harper knew, if any. This was a good start. "You understand this much?"

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGHearing Jaga correct Harper's pronunciation was a good sign. At least, Harper took it as a good sign. If she were willing to correct something that Harper had said, she might actually be willing to teach Harper something. Knowing Trigedasleng would be nothing but a good thing for her and learning it then from Jaga would also be a good way to pass the time in a way that didn't lead to them killing each other. They both still had weapons on them and Harper, as much as she could see that Jaga was trusting her more, didn't believe that Jaga wouldn't use those arrows at any second. Teaching Harper would hopefully keep her distracted enough to not even be thinking about her bow and arrows. "Trigedasleng," Harper said again, hoping that it sounding better than the first time she had tried saying the word. If she wanted her plan to work and for Jaga to be willing to teach her, it had to seem like she was actually able to learn.
Harper grinned when Jaga did agree to teaching her and felt a little proud of herself on the fact that she knew enough to understand what Jaga was saying. I am Jaga of Trikru. You are Harper of the Sky People. It was something that Harper had found quite funny, actually, the first time she had heard it, to know that the grounders called all the Arkers "Sky People." "Yeah, I understand that," Harper confirmed with a nod. And that didn't feel nice at all. She would try to avoid nodding in the future, it seemed that her head had began to ache a bit, or it at least ached from the sudden movement. "Ai laik Harper kom Skaikru." That was about the end of what Harper knew of Trigedasleng, she hadn't found much opportunity to learn it. The time when she could have been most likely to, after Mount Weather, Harper had been too busy with her training and becoming strong to really have much of an interest in it. @jaga || Page 3! YEW! I love this thread so much (: |

When Harper repeated Jaga's correction of 'trigedasleng', she said, "Beda." Better. That word was close enough to gonasleng that she thought Harper would understand it, the pronunciation of it only varied slightly. Harper seemed quite pleased that she understood what Jaga had said, which lead Jaga to think she didn't know much else. Jaga was still formulating her plan, though, so she stalled instead of teaching more. "You know more?" she asked.
She was vaguely aware that she was starting to get hungry. She should have eaten sooner to keep her strength up, but Harper had interrupted her. Jaga hadn't been lucky in catching anything meaty today--the animals had probably sensed the oncoming storm and hidden--but she'd found a rotten tree stump crawling with termites the day before, and she'd collected as many as she could.
She pulled the bag of them from her supplies and started eating the tiny insects. "What you want learn?" she said, looking back at Harper.

This is my Fight Song--TAKE BACK MY LIFE SONG, PROVE I'M ALRIGHT SONGBeda. Harper could understand that. It sounded close enough to English that her brain had no trouble working out what Jaga meant. She was quite happy that her pronunciation had improved that second time as well, as it meant that Jaga would be less likely to think of her as completely useless and decide she wasn't worth teaching. Although, with the way she was starting to feel more and more tired, maybe she wouldn't be worth teaching anything. She sort of wanted to sleep and if it hadn't been for Jaga and her arrows, she might have just slept. Harper still couldn't find it in herself to trust the grounder and that was probably because she didn't believe that Jaga trusted her. Maybe a little bit but nothing more than that. Then Jaga was asking Harper if she knew anymore Trigedasleng and Harper hated that she had to say she didn't but that was the point. She needed Jaga to teach her and she wouldn't if she knew a lot already. "I don't," Harper admitted and shrugged.
When Jaga turned to grab something, Harper froze but when she realised it was just a small bag Jaga was grabbing and not her weapon, Harper quickly relaxed again. If she tensed up every time that Jaga moved, things would not turn out well. The grounder would notice it. The best thing she could do was stay calm, at least as calm as Harper could be in her deteriorating state. She didn't pay too much attention to what Jaga was doing, other than the fact that she was eating something. Harper decided she didn't particularly care what since the grounder wasn't likely to share. "I want to learn the basics," she said before deciding that was probably too broad. "Like, how to say things that will keep me from getting killed." That was clearer, she hoped. She wasn't quite sure. With each passing second, she was feeling more tired. @jaga || Will Jaga get to go ahead with her plan or will Harper pass out first? XD |
