We've been conditioned to not make mistakes
It was a parent's worst nightmare, to bury their child. But alas, it was the reality of Callie Cartwig's life. Sending the children down had been dangerous, the rest of the Arkers coming down had also been dangerous . . . but ultimately, it was an illness that took her away from this world. Not without a legacy though.
It only made Callie mourn even more, losing a daughter and a daughter losing a mother. It was devastating really, but all they could do was move forward. She rose to her feet, having knelt at the gravesite of her deceased daughter. This was one way she could feel close to her. The other being near the life that she had brought into this world: her grand daughter. Making her way to Bellamy's cabin, she gently knocked on the door.
There was no answer. She didn't feel confident enough to just walk inside, so decided to go to the other person that could perhaps help her do so: Marcus Kane. He was the grandfather of the child, which was quite convoluted if one thought about their shared past together. She went to his cabin, knocking on the door, hoping that there would be some response.

Marcus had drugged his son. In the end it was all he had known how to help him. Bellamy wouldn't sleep, and it was affecting everything he did. Marcus had just finished washing off, and doing a make shift shower from a bowl of hot water when someone knocked on his door. Bellamy. He was wearing his pants and didn't think anything of opening the door wearing only his pants when it was his son. Walking toward the door he looked over at the little girl sleeping in the make shift bed--that he had made for her to have at his place cause he was planning on spoiling her so much that she would want to spend more time over here.
Gripping the door he pulled it open, "She is still asleep!" He said the paused. Callie! She was here! He paused for a moment before opening the door more, "I thought you were Bellamy. Come in." He gestured her in and then pushed the door closed while reaching for a near by shirt to pull on. While she had seen him in less, he was aware that was some time ago and didn't want things to me awkward between them. Turning to look back at her, Marcus was taken back at how beautiful she was. He had always thought so. Marcus had become more aware that he had missed out with not having children in his life, and sometimes it was hard to look at Callie, knowing how close they could have come. Had he tried harder, maybe he could have been there to raise a child. Even if it was not one his by blood.

We've been conditioned to not make mistakes Callie patiently waited, hearing a voice near the door indicate that the baby was still asleep. Though when the door opened, Callie's eyes slightly widened at seeing Marcus in his half state of undress. It caused a slight blush to color her cheeks, sometimes finding her light skin a curse for her blushes were often quite noticable.
Her eyes quickly went downward, not wanting to take in the sight of him. And it was quite a sight indeed. He had always been handsome, for attraction -- or lack there of -- was never an issue in their relationship. But it would be ridiculous of her to stare at him now, like a little school girl never having seen a man without a shirt. She had seen more of Marcus than that.
Far more. And that was when her eyes of their own accord when to his lower region -- which was covered with pants. Oh dear! This wasn't good. She quickly entered, turning her back to him and using the excuse of gently closing the door shut -- which he had already done so it left her just standing there -- to avoid looking at him. It wasn't out of lacking desire. It just . . . wasn't appropriate. Though a better excuse -- the reason she had come here -- came to mind.
"How is she?" Callie asked, finding the words were easier to get out once he had a shirt on and her mind wasn't going to the very intimate past that they had shared. Perhaps it was in part a way for her to deflect; a way to distract her from dealing with the loss of a daughter. She had enough time to dwell in that heartbreak. Being around those she cared about -- Marcus included -- made it easier. Or perhaps bearable was the better word. None of this was easy.

Marcus was fairly certain she had looked at him in a way that said she was thinking of him as man, and while he was gentlemen enough to to tease her about it--he enjoyed the idea that even after all this time she might still like what she saw. He knew that they had ended because of his own faults, rather then lack of love. He had burned that bridge when he had tried to execute her friend, and when he killed 320 people, and while not directly, he had also send her daughter to the ground. Somethings he knew he'd never be doing trying to make amends for, and somethings he would never be able to even try.
"How is she?" Callie asked, and Marcus looked over at their shared granddaughter. "I am more worried about Bellamy then I am about her," He told her honestly, "She has a father who loved her more then anything, and a grandmother who would do anything for her." And a grandfather who planned to spoil her rotten. "She just went down for a nap. She has started eating some, but not whole bottles. I think it will just take some more time, but with everyone wiling to help, we can do this." He looked back at Callie, "Would you like to wait for her to wake up? We could sit and talk in the other room so we don't wake her?"
